Starscream is mostly grey plastic, so it's all good!

Is the SS pictured Takara's, or Hasbro Asia's?

Kinda does.
Ya know, the more I look at the MP Seeker mold, the more I realize how truly awesome the Classics Seeker mold is. The Masterpiece mold is almost 2000% (!) of the cost of a Classics Seeker figure, and it still isn't any better as far as proportion and accuracy. Sure it is smaller, but it is truly amazing.

This won't be going on sale, the other Asia exclusive MPs have only gone up in price since their release. On top of that, this is Skywarp based on the more show accurate version of the mold.
Yeah, I somehow managed to miss this until yesterday, so I bit and pre-ordered it from RK, cheaper than any other place I found it at, 210 dollars including shipping. I feel really, really sad and dirty that this cost me more before shipping than MP Ultra Magnus did including shipping.
At least I have a full set of Seekers now, and won't have to get one till the Coneheads finally show up.
Huh? The Hasbro Asia MP reissues so far are Starscream and OP, both of which are still widely available. SS in particular has been on sale a bunch of times.
Skywarp is a special case, and 'hardcore' collectors like most of us here consider him a necessity, but I'm not sure we're representative of the market here, especially with the prohibitive price point.
Don't forget Grimlock, Grimlock in his sweet ass box.
SS went on sale? Hm, so I misjudged these then, must just be bias due to how high the initial import costs are. I should check ebay more often then, the last time I checked out the Asia MP reissues, they where still at their 220 price point.
Posted by megatronus on December 28th, 2014 @ 6:22pm CST
Didn't realize Grimlock was a Hasbro Asia reissue... interesting. But yea, even more so then. I have an order with TFsource with Hasbro Asia SS & Grimlock on there for $175 each. When TFSource or BBTS has their next Botcon or whatever type sale happens, you can count on those guys being discounted. Hope SW goes the same way... Though I'll probably put in an order in the next week out of weakness.Dead Metal wrote:Don't forget Grimlock, Grimlock in his sweet ass box.

Indeed. I'm inclined to say Takara, since they all seem to have the same painted over glossy helmet. Hasbro Asia SS has the dark grey molded helmet...
I forget which one has that particular reddish purple for the Decepticons symbol, and which has more of the true purple purple... I'll have to look that up and get back.
Sorry for the multiple consecutive posts, all. I'm on vacation and it's hard to do multiple quotes in a single post from my phone...

The Coneheads would have to be pretty significant retools, though, since the center portion of their torso would end up becoming their heads.

I'd love to see the Coneheads, too, but I'm aching for official Shockwave and Megatron figures. It's odd we haven't heard about what's happening post Star Saber - usually we have, what, 6 months notice before a new MP is released? So hopefully the next reveal is a big one.

I was thinking the same thing. I thought it was usually 9 months out or more. I preordered Bumblebee in like, March.

Ok, I was wrong - the initial stock of Skywarp is out at BBTS, TFsource, & RobotKingdom... BBTS has preorders up, though, so a restock is possible (a la Hasbro Asia Starscream)?

My preorder for MP Ultra Magnus was placed 14 months ago on October 31, 2013 and I most likely won't get it before January 9, 2015. Considering that, Skywarp can wait!

For those outside Japan wishing to own him, you have to be a bit creative and find professional middlemen who can ship it to an adress outside Japan, like specialized shipping company Tenso.
Still, another chance to grab a teleporting seeker is not one to pass on - refresh your memory with our gallery right here, and check out some further stock images mirrored below!

Think of this as like Takara's release of Hasbro's MP Acid Storm. A straight reissue for the main Japanese market of a foreign market figure.Wolfman Jake wrote:It still baffles me that Takara would produce a "Masterpiece" Skywarp with those weird shoulder, wrist, and "pectoral" pin stripes, making him far less screen accurate, especially now that the Masterpiece line is catering to that preference more than ever before. That's really all it would take.
Otherwise, Takara's release of Acid Storm ought to have been recolored as, well... this:

Acid Storm is quite a D-List character, though. Skywarp is an established A-lister, part of an iconic trio of characters. It's annoying that he doesn't "match" his mold-mates Starscream and Thundercracker. Heck, Takara's Sunstorm does a better job of conforming to the "seeker trio" paint scheme. That's just weird.
Posted by Sabrblade on July 8th, 2016 @ 5:41pm CDT
Takara's Sunstorm is a good example to bring up since, cartoon-wise, he's just as obscure in the show as Acid Storm was (arguably even moreso since Sunstorm was only seen in one shot of the one episode he showed up in, while Acid Storm got more screentime with multiple shots in the episode he appeared in) and yet received a deco that was very beholden to his single onscreen appearance:Wolfman Jake wrote:Acid Storm is quite a D-List character, though. Sunstorm may be more known in external media, but strictly speaking of the cartoon, he's even lower tier than Acid Storm, Nova Storm, and Ion Storm.

Which just begs the question even more: What the hell, Takara Tomy!? Give poor Skywarp a break!

Dont need to . Turns out Hasbro Asia is making a simultaneous reissue of their skywarp and you can get it at BBTS and TFSource for 189$ (so 10$ cheaper than initially).

The Good:
- Black painted biceps and knees are now black plastic
- Chest fans are considerably darker
- Joints are really nice and tight (unlike Thrust and his wobbly waist), though this isn’t any better than the original
- Heel spurs, and jet exhausts are darker
The Bad:
- Torso area behind his biceps is no longer painted silver, just silver plastic
- Bottom of shoulder pylons are considerably darker
The Indifferent:
- Purple is much warmer purple
- Symbols are lighter
- Chest missiles are darker
- Silver feet detail is darker
- Buttocks is black plastic
- Yellow wing paint is lighter and does not extend past molded detail
- Window is lighter but less clear
So really nice. I do like the old purple better, though this purple is similar to what was on the Henkei (not exactly the same). The biceps and knees being cast in black rather than painted is a definite improvement. As they are kind of distracting on the original. The lack of paint on the chest section is disappointing.
So it’s a matter of how much the change in purple bothers you (if it does at all) and how much the lack of paint (good for the biceps & knees, bad for the torso section) matter to you.
Looking at them from here, the black plastic biceps and darker chest fans are winning me over right now. You can’t lose with either of them. The ideal for me would be the 2016 version with the 2014 purple and painted chest part.
In all the pics the China 2014 version is on the left, the Japanese 2016 on the right.
