Hasbro 2021 Investors Presentation On Now

There was a lot of entertainment news related to Transformers in today's investor conference from Hasbro. No less than 5 projects are currently in development and they were all talked about at the 1:30 mark of the conference. We reported on the Botbots TV show on Netflix, the new Animated TV show on nickelodeon and we all know there will be a third part to the War on Cybertron Trilogy show on Netflix called Kingdom.

Along with those 3 shows, Hasbro is currently making 2 feature length films at the same time and here are all the details that were given.

One film will be live action set for release in summer 2022 "with a fresh vision that will launch a new trajectory for the franchise". The director is Steven Caple Jr who directed Creed 2, Lorenzo di Bonaventura will be producing and Steven Spielberg will be one of the executive producers.

The other feature length film will be animated and that one will be directed by Josh Cooley, who directed Toy Story 4.

I’ve had it. I’ve had it with this terrible terrible producer. He is an untalented, inconsiderate, ignorant Hollywood puppet who doesn’t know TWO SH*TS about Transformers. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, look up any interview of him, or any quote from him concerning his opinions on the transformers movies, and you’ll very soon see how much HE was the root of every transformers movie problem until the present day, I’d argue even more than Michael bay. MOST of the BS nonsense that was shoehorned into the bayverse movies was due to this idiot. There are very few people I have such little respect and so much hate for. Why? Why would they drag HIM back into the picture RIGHT When this franchise has the potential to be something good again? I hate to sound like a pessimist, but with this one simple announcement, I have momentarily lost literally all hope for any upcoming transformers films. Until this man is wiped from the face of Transformers media, I will not see a hopeful ray of light again.

He and Bay were attached as Producers, from when the Movie was still supposed to be a Prequel to the previous Live Action Movie franchise and before the reshoots and new direction.
Most of the stuff that made the movie good are actually reshoots and changes included after the test screening and Paramount getting scared of another flop.
So it's unlikely that he had anything to do with why it's liked.

Producers don't really do much. Just look at Don Murphy.

Producers are responsible for the financial backing and distribution of the product. That's about it. They try to attach themselves to products, not because they necessarily like them, but because they will make money. If he's on board, I suspect there is money to be made.

Seems to me there are a few clunkers there. Seems to me there are a few really good films on there (Constantine, Red Red 2). I think people are giving the producer way more credit than is deserved. The one constant on the TF movies besides di Bonventura- until Bumblebee, that is- was Michael Bay, who is an "eye candy" director.

A film producer is a person who oversees film production. Either employed by a production company or working independently, producers plan and coordinate various aspects of film production, such as selecting the script; coordinating writing, directing, editing; and arranging financing. "

I think the key words in there are "plan and coordinate". Do they have a say? probably. Do they have FINAL say? Probably not. Is there some responsibility? Yes. Is it all on him? No. Like I said, both Red and Red 2 were good movies. I enjoyed Constantine a lot and thought it was underrated. Do I give him credit? Partially. Do I give him more credit than the director and editors and writers? No. He HIRED them. Then they did their thing.

I think everyone is overreacting. Like it was pointed out recently, the Bumblebee movie was one of his productions and it was a thoroughly enjoyable, fun, movie, and well-regarded by the fandom. So, I suggest everyone pump the brakes a bit and wait to see what the new directors (and Hasbro) can come up with for further Transformers movies before stringing him up in a noose.

Only trying to point out that the guys has had hits and misses. A lot of peeps here automatically discounting any future movies simply because of his name. I'm pointing out that there are really good movies under his name too.

I really enjoyed Cyberverse and thought it was a decent to good show. So that's where I'm at.

Eh, If you look at the list that was posted of all his movie credits, there are way more stinkers than good ones, and the majority of the "geek" ones are all infamous for "disrespecting" the source material.

Producers don't have total control over a movie, but they do have influence and there are many examples where they override decisions because they're convinced the movie should would otherwise fail.
Famous examples are for instance Alien 3, Dune, Bladerunner, and Spider-Man 3.
The Bumblebee movie started out as a prequel to the original Live Action series, which is why both are attached as Producers. The studio ordered reshoots after the test screening, adding the Cybertron scene, removing the majority of the stuff that lead into the Live action continuity, rewriting characters (John Cena was originally a straight up badguy).
It also originally included more slapstick.
It could be that he made the decision to do reshoots and the changes, could be that someone higher up made the decision for him.
Claiming that Bumblebee is proof that he's good just ignores how the movie was not only changed from it's original form, but also the entirety of the previous movies. He was also always the most outspoken against criticism of the movies he was a producer on. Bay would usually go "whatever, people are still going to see this" while he would question people's taste. He's also one of the guys who claims that Hollywood is ignoring young males as it's audience and isn't producing enough content to cater to them, which is flat-out wrong.

The Bumblebee movie still works as a prequel though, there's not enough to completely disconnect it that couldn't be changed (heck it actually improves the older movies to some respect as it explains more!) Also Megatron is still frozen in ice under the hoover dam according to the extras)

Now the upcoming Transformers movie on the other hand, will be the reboot in terms of what it's going to change. In a sense Bumblebee becomes on of those ink blot cards, allowing you to see whatever you want in it

But overall, the message remains the same, let's not lose our heads over a name, and let's just hold judgment till a teaser trailer lands, if not the full trailer.

There’s a reason producers get the Oscar statue when a film wins best picture. They’re the overall boss of the film and make most of the major decisions on a project.

“Executive producer” however is more often than not a courtesy credit.

It can still work as a prequel, but that's only because the movies have always been really loose with their continuity.

The first movie sets up that The Autobots first arrive to Earth, BB arrived earlier because he was sent out as a scout. Sector 7 treated the events like these were the first time they encountered the TFs and had actual contact with them, they also hunt BB for the same reason.

Later it's revealed that some Transformers have arrived earlier and have lived in hiding.

Then it's revealed that the TFs were always there, established King Arthur's court, etc.
Bumblebee and other Autobots worked alongside the Allied forces in WW2.

But the Bumblebee movie has Optimus send BB directly to Earth in the 80s, because it's a secret planet the Cons don't know about and they can use it as a base for the Autobots. This contradicts previous continuity where BB traveled to Earth later, because he was scouting for the Allspark. And TLK events where it's revealed that he's been allied with America since WW2.
Blitzwing is the one to damage BB's voice box, while in the old movies it was Megatron.

Sector 7 refers to Shatter and Dropkick as being first contact with Transformers, which invalidates the Last Knight set up of BB and others being on Earth for ages and cooperating with them.

On top of that are the estetics. Everything is more G1, save for Shatter and Dropkick. BB's Camaro body is the same as his VW by, just with Camaro parts, instead of his 2007 body.

It was clearly indented to be a prequel, but the changes don't really make it fit that well, and only if you ignore The Last Knight. Which is hilarious seeing how this was originally made to further cement TLK's continuity.

Actually the movies never stated it was megatron who took bee's voice, all Ratchet says is it was damaged in battle. It ws the auxiliary media that said was Megatron (fyi the auxiliary media for the bee movie also contradicts things saying that bee first fought Blitzwing while helping a spy I the 1950s-60s in a delicious spy send up. The comic on the home release also features Megs in ice at S7 just like the 07 movie.

But again, as you can easily hand wave these inconsistencies (no more then the ones with the other movies ), that's why this is Schrödinger's Bumblebee, where it is both a prequel and a reboot, needing another film to pull it firmly into either camp.

Personally I wish they never used the g1 designs, but what can you do?
