Thanks to eBay member lena81822, (in)famous for getting a hold of Transformers figures well before their release date, we have a preview of a repaint of Generations IDW Megatron. This isn't your standard repaint however, for this Megatron is the first ever Transformers figure to apparently come with a football as an accessory, and contains the Nike Swoosh trademark symbol on his "shoes." There's also an as-of-yet unidentified signature on the front right-side of Megatron's jet mode
Very little is known about where or how this figure will be released, but given its obvious football stylings, is it related to Calvin Johnson, the Detroit Lions wide receiver who has been given the nickname Megatron? Time will tell.
I the meantime, check out the auction and all its images here.
Thanks to Seibertron.com user jamesbenjamin for bringing this to our attention!

It does bear a certain similarity doesn't it?

in a different story...Nike and Calvin Johnson are teaming together to make the "CJ81 COLLECTION INSPIRED BY MEGATRON" which if you look at some of the pictures, especially the shoes, it has the grid pattern on it like the toy.

Agreed should be mostly silver with blue highlights and maybe Calvin Johnson's head as a head sculpt I would paint the face silver though to keep it can't stand human color faces on TF toys! I'm looking at you Botcon 2012 Metalhawk

I guess the toy is based on the shoes, it has a similar purple to them and, well if you look at the feet, they have the Nike symbol.
This looks kinda cool, sure it means nothing to me, but I like the colour and the football is kinda awesome.

Funny shape football though

also.. it'd be more neat had he been painted with more of a football uniform motif.. either way, i think it's pretty cool.

Galvatron, and with the translucent wings/ weapon with the grid it kinda even gives the illusion of the awesome Galvatron creation scene from the Movie.
I think I kinda like this version of the mold, the colours pop, it's weird and it wears Nike shoes.

I've amended my post to be more specific. This purple and gray deco honestly reminds me of the deco of an existing figure.
Someone on another site suggested Cybertron Skywarp, which I do see a resemblance in, but there might be something else I'm trying to remember.

G1 cartoon Galvatron, otherwise I wouldn't have brought up his creation from the movie.
It's also somewhat similar to the cartoon accurate Universe and RTS repaints of Universe G1 Cyclonus.

Timelines Machine Wars Skywarp? The effect on Megatron's wings vaguely remind me of the warping effect on Skywarp's wings.

He's white with red black and yellow (and a tiny bit of purple).Mindmaster wrote:Timelines Machine Wars Skywarp? The effect on Megatron's wings vaguely remind me of the warping effect on Skywarp's wings.
This Megatron is purple with gray.

Energon Galvatron perhaps (US, not SL Galvatron General)? Or that clear e-Hobby Galvatron? Or maybe even the current BotCon 2013 Hotlink.

Hotlink seems a good fit, but I feel I've seen this color scheme much sooner than this year.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Energon Galvatron perhaps (US, not SL Galvatron General)? Or that clear e-Hobby Galvatron? Or maybe even the current BotCon 2013 Hotlink.
Cybertron Skywarp was a good guess, but I can't help but feel that's not it.
Is there another Galvatron or Cyclonus toy out there that is predominately purple and gray? (I say "Galvatron or Cyclonus" as that's why my gut is telling me)

The one coming remotely close to that exact shade of purple would have to be the clear Cyclonus from that United 3-pack. Purple is such a hard color to get right...

Might not have to be an exact shade match (after all, both Cyb Skywarp and MW Hotlink are good candidates despite not being perfect matches), but I don't think the United clear Cyclonus had much gray on him.JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Is there another Galvatron or Cyclonus toy out there that is predominately purple and gray? Well, here's a group picture if it helps:
*EDIT* OUCH! What did that realisation have to hurt so hard? Anyhow, found another, obscure possibility: Micron Legend Shockwave

I may be a bit out of left field here, but Generations Blitzwing? The purples and greys match, but theres alot of other colors as well. Maybe Beast Hunters Shockwave? He's purple grey and red primarily. The original generations Cyclonus? No grid pattern anywere on any of those, but who knows.
The seibertron background with the grid pattern that was up a while ago?

Someone educate me: do Football and TFs go together? Natural synergy?
You'd think they'd at least put the guy's face in the helmet (and not Megatron face) - that'd be kind of neat. They make printable face-plates in Japan, and if this guy had a peg for a printable face, it'd at least have the option to be replaced by one's own face. But I digress.

Anyone else curious as to how he earned the nickname "Megatron"? I mean, it's not like he pulled out a fusion cannon to help him blast past the defensive line and into the end zone.
I think one of his teammates actually coined his nickname. Probably said something like "You did it just like Megatron" or something

So someone might have caught him while he was repeatedly saying "Fools, I am MEGATRON" while under the shower or something.
As for the toy itself, I love black decoes on toys, but I have to say this looks better to me than the original deco does.

Has nothing to do with a fusion cannon. He dominates. He's strong and basically as bad ass as Megatron (referring to movie Megs at the time).

Tigertrack wrote:Yes, the nickname was given by teammate Roy Williams way back when. It stuck with fans. CJ now has his own clothes through Nike, and one shirt features a very Decepticon like CJ symbol. Yep dominates like the first movie Megatron (2007) did. Calvin Johnson came out in 2007 when the Movie was still new and Transformers is all the craze. Not to be confused with ROTF and DOTM Megatrons where hes basically just a little bitch... =X
Still deciding if I should get one of these from ebay. The many auctions usually ends at $30-50 bucks shipped now, or wait for an official release. I think this is awesome and would love to support it. hmmm..
