poor hasbro, if only they knew that 90% of people buying this toy are over 18 years of age.
can't wait to pick this up.
Few gripes from pictures, his paint scheme is bland, could use more shading and details on the white. I understand they're trying to go g1 accurate, but his colors don't really work the best for a toy.

They are WELL aware of this. The Generations line seems like it's targeted at collectors more than kids, but if they were to market it that way then it would really only be collectors stores that would stock them rather than general retail stores.

i mean.. we already got a jetfire toy update with the classics jetfire.. what i want is a figure of the cartoon version.
had they given us a more cartoon accurate alt mode.. there'd be no need for a fake chest and a giant fuselage hanging off his back. hell, i don't think jetfire/skyfire has ever gotten a toon accurate alt mode. it's a shame really.
plus, the stripped paint apps makes this figure look ridiculously cheap, and it's not like there were that many to begin with, so i'm not sure why they got rid of them.. plus, look at his hollow thighs.. seriously, hollow thighs on a leader class figure. looks like the cost cutting from the movie lines is clearly going to affect the proper generations figures which totally sucks.
this is just further degradation of the leader class. the leader class used to be the best.. movie 1 leader prime, while it had a lot of kibble was still rather good for its time.. leader class brawl too.. then rotf prime which is incredible, rotf leader jetfire was huge and nice looking. starscream was great. dotm leader class sentinel was awesome, same with leader class ironhide.. hell, people even enjoyed leader class bumblebee.. and now we get AOE prime and grimlock who are too small, lack the engineering of the previous figures, and both are SEVERELY lacking when it comes to comparative accuracy. it's just a shame that these measures have taken hold of the generations figures.
i wonder how the final leader megatron will look, i wonder if it too will lose some paint.
oh well. i can still hope takara gives us a proper jetfire/skyfire. kronos looks great, but i'm holding out in hope that takara gives us one.. i mean, it's not like they need a license, there doesn't appear to be any hoops that they'd need to jump through.. so, my fingers are crossed.
don't get me wrong though, this figure looks nice.. it just could be better. aside from remolding it into a proper toon jetfire, leaving the original paint scheme would've gone a long way.

In both modes. Very lazy design. The original toy Jetfire (Macross mold) was notable for how little kibble there was in either mode. This looks like the robot mode has an entire folded-up jet on its back and the alt mode looks like it has an entire robot hanging from the undercarriage.
Also don't like how the shade of red of the chromed-out weapons is too dissimilar from the red paint apps on the body. Looks like they took the weapons off some other toy and stuck them onto this one. If the shades matched then the chrome would really make the whole toy pop. As it is though, the dissimilarity is jarring.

Just damn lazy... (Is this a Kre-o figure or a fracking Leader class?)
1) Hollow thighs
2) Hollow mid arms
3) Molded crappy chrome guns on legs to blow off Jetfire's arms in battle
4) Excessive backpack
5) Ridiculous price point
6) Bland white color
7) Closed fists
Inferior to Classics Jetfire mold...wish they had just made that mold into leader class. I could go on but have made my point. Let the neverending comments about fanboys never being happy with anything commence. This figure is poorly executed from every angle.

That jet mode though...exquisite is the only word for it. It's chunky and sleek at the same time, and it's just so pointy! I love everything about it- I like the Macross cues they took with it a lot, too.
Also, chrome. Red chrome. I think I'm in love.

It IS good. Hugely complicated and slavishly accurate to the often-inconsistent (and really downright ugly) character design from a 30-year-old merchandising cartoon =/= good.
But let's address this in depth.
It's not as complicated because of the economy and Hasbro's financial situation. The production costs on toys as complicated as, say, ROTF Prime are insane. More parts = more tooling required, which is the most expensive part of the whole process (machining a brand-new steel mold costs thousands). If they did make it at ROTF Prime levels of intricacy, they'd have to sell it at a ridiculous price to make a profit, which would mean it wouldn't sell.
And heck, even ignoring the argument that these are ultimately toys for children, very often collectors bitch and moan about overly complex toys. Look at poor RID Side Burn, Energon Slugslinger and Generations Galvatron- they were highly complex and intricately-engineered toys and everybody hates them.
As for G1 accuracy, this is quite clearly based off of the IDW design. In any case, we already have a G1 accurate Skyfire- Classics Jetfire. Not to mention the inevitable Masterpiece Jetfire we will eventually get (Bumblebee got one after all) and the 3rd-party Jetfire that's on the market. A little innovation can't hurt now and again.
Posted by Fires_Of_Inferno on July 9th, 2014 @ 3:58pm CDT
Most of those cuts seem to happen more in the movie line figures with less paint apps, less articulation, less plastic causing hollow bits, and less complexity. After that the next ones to get cuts are the Generations toys, in their case it's a bit less paint and a bit less plastic for hollow bits. The Masterpiece line came out relatively unscathed other than some downsizing, but that only helped as it allowed the figures more complexity, paint, and articulation!
I would rather have this Jetfire with his hollow bits and G1 accurate paint job, than movie Crosshairs with giant car flaps and only half his vehicle mode painted.

I think it is actually a good thing this isn't like the leader scale of old. It would have been so large and complex, it wouldn't have fit in a classics collections at all. As it is it just looks like a large voyager, and I'm okay with that.
People are complaining about lack of paint apps. I have a feeling there will be a sticker set? Just a hunch...

I'd be happy with Jetfire being AoE Leader size.

Time saved only wish TRU would stop advertising them selves as a shoprunner member when a good bulk of there products dont count for the free 2 day shipping to shoprunner members, but they never fail to advertise post sale use that service next time even though it isnt an option. The very reason I love Amazon Prime.
It says right on their website that you have to order $49 or more in order to receive free shipping. Order 2 or add a small item to your order to qualify for free shipping. Don't forget you are paying a premium fee for Amazon Prime (that is well worth the money if you order a lot from Amazon).
Purchase $49 or more in additional eligible merchandise to qualify for Free Shipping
I ordered 2 Jetfires and got the free shipping.

why the hell would they even PUT it on the stupid site for pre-order if it not ready for a pre-order??!!?
dumb.

Talked with a TRU rep and she told me this for Shoprunner "The option is only available on certain items, shop runner chooses which items they want to be eligible for the free shipping, it will say under the item on the page where it says special offers if it is eligible."
That kind of sucks that it is so selective and really since I am not paying for the service its ok but disappointing none the less.
Anyway they have decided not to offer it on alot of the toys as of late.
Separately yes I love my Prime membership had it for a few years now, between the shipping, and the streaming of TV, Movies, Book borrowing and now Music downloads its a fantastic service well worth the $99 price tag. If you can get it with the student discount or one of the other discounts its even better in value.

You cant start my day off with happy thoughts of ordering this and now... now not feeling so good.
Ordered with my AMEX card. Not sure how other paid, some said paypal. But I dont know why that should determine if your order gets filled unless you dont have the funds.

dumbprime wrote:My first order attempt was with another item, to get free shipping, that was in stock, Jetfire was canceled 1 hour after I Received the order acknowledgement email. the second item was confirmed. I had payed through the PayPal option on this order. With my second attempt at Jetfire only, the order was placed just after my first order was cancelled, but this time I paid by credit card, and I just received the confirmation email at about an hour and 15 minutes after the acknowledgement email.
I wouldn't be surprised if they quit taking Paypal preorders as they don't seem to know what they're doing. I've still yet to have my Paypal transaction actually completed for the Legacy Dragonzord they sent me 2 months ago.
