But again, another Chinese year ... another missed opportunity ... this time Ramulus.

I think MP Soundwave in particular looks great. I think those cassettes are going to be the highlight of my shelf once I get my hands on them.

I think I'd rather have a blue Soundwave than this dude. Maybe if they knock some off the price, but as it stands, I'm good.

It's pretty obvious now Hasbro Asia has no intention on using BW molds, at all. Just a big version of Optimus Prime and a complimenting release. Thinking about it now, next year, Optimal Optimus or bust (though he's an ape, not a monkey)!
I am quite surprised (yet not) they've pulled out one of the best vintage molds out there for Optimus this year. Given I already own two of him (Black Convoy and the G2 Laser reissue) I'll be skipping him. Do keep in mind the discs will be blank and the sword blunted.

Not a fan of this Optimus Prime mold... Soundwave I picked up his recent Master Piece edition so this I think is going to be a definite skip for me... First time in awhile that I will skip these Chinese Year editions... First for everything I suppose.

If they were all translucent, then I might be interested but as it is, easy pass.

Clear PRIME OF JUSTICE looks really fun. Always nice to add to the G2 shelf.

It gets SHINY when held against a direct light source.

Though that hardly outweighs the fragility (the animal cassettes are gonna' look and crumble like rock candy) and the missed opportunity to paint all 5 cassettes into MP versions of different characters.
And yet...clear "stealth mode" Ravage actually makes perfect sense.
Sure you could pretend they all just used Decepticon invisibility spray...if you can stand thinking about Attack of the Autobots, which I can't, seeing as it's David Wise's first and worst episode, making it hurt so much worse than a lousy throw-away episode by a writer whose later work didn't define the G1 cartoon's mythology.
I have never been more thoroughly on the fence about any TFs than I am right now. It gives so many fans what they asked for: more MP Soundwave and friends! And yet, while it doesn't miss the mark, it just sort of grazes it. My buying it may hinge on whether it actually shows up in TRU, and how long it hangs around.

And as said, GPS + clear plastic = a recipe for disaster.
Also, why is the E in Soundwave so far apart from the rest of his name? "SOUNDWAV E"? WTF?

Was first a KB Toys exclusive sold under a subtitle-less "Transformers" label, but was later rereleased as a Dollar Store exclusive under the 2003 Transformers: Universe label.leokearon wrote:Metro Prime wrote:How can it be that, out of the 4 different uses of the Laser Prime mold, we STILL don't have one in Prime's normal colors? They want to make sure it falls apart by the next year of the Goat, so you'll have to buy a new masterpiece?

If that happened I'd possibly find a way to repair the figure most likely find a method of curing gold plastic syndrome which could be gorilla glue /crazy glue but that could be debatable....

Gold Plastic Syndrome is when the plastic doesn't mix properly, resulting in a brittle and extremely fragile toy. Just gluing the piece back won't help, and may just make it worse. Even if you do, the plastic is still brittle and extremely fragile. Besides, I highly doubt you can glue together tiny, sharp fragments of plastic, assuming it doesn't just crumble to dust first.
Also, toys with GPS typically have noticable swirls in the plastic where the dyes and stuff didn't form correctly. These guys don't have that.

My first thought was, awe, maybe one of those cassettes turns into a goat!
Agreed, Ramulus was the obvious choice. Bet we wont see any Optimus primals for Y.O.Monkey.
I'd chop off a finger for a translucent Voyager Op Primal.
These are another case of, so stupid they work for me. I'm a sucker for translucent stuff.

I think they will grow on you. People thought YotH MP Prime was garish, ugly, and unnecessary at first... that is, until they got him in hand.

After all, Soundwave's a spy, so invisibility/cloaking could be of great use to him.
For Optimus, he could represent the other popular function of clear figures: A ghost.

Unless the Year of the Dragon, Year of the Snake, or Year of the Horse figures had some sort of fiction explaining the color choices, I think we can safely assume that the color choices here were for the heck of it.
I'm cool with that, but just sayin'.

same. you cant go wrong with a laser prime. and that soundwave kinda reminds me of the linkin park G1 reissue. my only complaint is that the clear to bronze plastic ratio seems a bit off. i hope the clear stuff isnt just clear. id like to see some paint apps.megatronus wrote:Not so much love for these from the fandom, I guess.

as it is, i have two running MP displays: the normal one, and the crazy variant display (comic, diaclone, black, year of ____, ect). it works just fine for me

Yea, just a few bronze accents on the chest would really bring this guy together. The normally gold/yellow lines on the sides of his chest, and the swoosh thing on the tape deck door, are perfect candidates for the bronze treatment.
I'm more interested in seeing if the cassettes have any other paint apps.
