People have been waiting a long time for this news, but it's happening now. The Walmart exclusive reissue of Transformers G1 Soundwave has been found at Walmarts in the US. He comes with Buzzsaw and there are two other cassette two packs which include Frenzy and Lazerbeak as well as Rumble and Ravage.
Soundwave is $50 USD while the casette two packs are $20 USD each. Meaning the whole set would cost you $90 USD total. The images below come from Doug who posted them on Facebook and this set has been found in both Illinois and Wisconsin so far.
While Soundwave was also found in Canada recently, sightings have been rather sporadic and the cassettes were not found yet. The prices in Canada are $70 for Soundwave and $30 per cassette pack.

What a childhood memory, getting my first cassettes in an Easter basket.
Jeez that really takes me back. It was the Frenzy pack but I couldn’t read I was bouncing off the walls because I had ‘Rumble’ from the cartoon.

However, anyone who are a Soundwave fan and don't own the G1 molds would be MAD to pass these up.
Yes, even at those prices.

I second this. G1 Soundwave and Co still hold up today. Plus it's the OG.

I believe so. They were charging $50 a pop originally I believe, but I’ve seen him down to $30 in the Walmarts around Fort Bliss, which I think is much more reasonable.

You guys are right, I should get one. I never transform the MP and Siege doesn't have a deck mode, so I gues I can keep G1 as a player.-Kanrabat- wrote:william-james88 wrote:Rodimus Prime wrote:Funny thing for me is, the only cassette I own is Ratbat, so I need to get ALL of them. I say so too. Soundwave is bigger (voyager) and DO come with his original Buzzsaw. Optimus is deluxe sized and have been neutered from his iconic trailer, making him not worth it at all.
Not having my "Universe" Soundwave reissue, I wouldn't mind paying full price for Soundwave and both cassette packs. I don't give a flying damn what that reissue's price was 10 freaking years ago. What matter is what are the prices RIGHT NOW. And right now, buying the full sets at full price from Walmart will come cheaper than getting everything separately from ebay. Reissues or originals.
Seriously, I would never, ever wait for a sale for these. I could even double dip, if it weren't for a certain planet-muncher coming up.

But, there is a part of me that might consider Soundwave himself because my OG suffers from the age old leaning-forward-like-he's-gonna-puke syndrome.
That old toy has been very loved for many years, and a lot of his joints are worn out.

See, I need the other one. I was gifted lazerbeak with Soundwave once and I will be getting Frenzy with those dino casettes. So all I am missing is rumble and ravage.

See I always fall back on my childhood filled with G1 on up so I always get that fanbuzz that's part of my DNA talking about re-releases and stuff like this, but I'm always curious about younger fan perspectives on the older G1 stuff.

I grew up with G1 toys but I'm non-plussed about them now, the oldest toys I own now are Beast Wars.

It's like how you can get a poster of the Mona Lisa or Starry Night. Nah it's not the same, but it's nice to have up or out just to appreciate or add some cheap class to your walls.
Plus, bring a date home, they see Soundwave out and displayed? Dude, lock it down.

Couldn't bring myself to by the additional 2 packs of cassettes at $20 each, thinking about it, but might wait for them to clearance out eventually. There were 3 soundwave's left in stock. 1 more box in excellent condition, the other 2 had a few creases.
First, welcome!
And second, unless you have money trouble, DO NOT wait for the cassettes to go on clearance. Even at 20$, those are TWO packs and even at that price, they will be scalped to hell and back for double the price on Ebay. Beside, if you want a single complete vintage cassette, you would have to pay at least 30$ if not more.

Oh well, never had a Swerve before, just a Gears (which I still have). Weird how it had a rubsign, but the Bumblebee I got a few weeks prior did not.

Every single g1 reissue has been found at massive clearance prices so far. Waiting is just fine.

I dunno about that, though.
Reissue Devy was sold out nearly instantly when it came out, along with Starscream, and both of those were at full retail prices (I'm surprised about Devy simply because he was like 75$) so there is no guarantee that Soundwave will or won't be the same.

It depend of the figure and how well it's distributed. Bumblebee and "Brown Brawn" were sold fast enough to never be on sale.
As for Starscream and Devastator, there wasn't that much units around and those sold pretty fast at full price and they never got back in stock.
Only Optimus and Hot-Rod were in significant numbers/not popular enough to get on sale.
I really doubt Soundwave and his cassettes will have time to go on clearance.
Posted by Ironhidensh on July 29th, 2019 @ 7:43am CDT
I found Starscream on clearance as well, but I didn't save that receipt so I was screwed. I can walk into any of the seven Walmarts in my area right now and get you a whole handful of cheap Bee's on clearance. Maybe its where you live, but I've seen every figure on clearance, and read shit loads of reports of it elsewhere as well.
Posted by -Kanrabat- on July 29th, 2019 @ 8:05am CDT
Long story short, if you REALLY want a figure, buy now but keep the receipt. No risks to miss out and if there's a sale in the future...

Consider yourself lucky. Around here, and in a lot of other places, Starscream and Devastator showed up once, were gone in days, and never again. I snagged a Starscream, but was late to pull the trigger on Devy, because I figured either 1) he will be restocked or 2) at $75, he won't sell well. Wrong on both counts, and now I wish I had got him. Optimus and Hot Rod, on the other hand, hung around a while. They're gone now as well, but it took a lot longer. So maybe it's just the Cons that sell out fast? If so, if you see a reissue at Walmart of Soundwave and Co., better pick them up.Ironhidensh wrote:I bought Devy for full price, but kept the receipt, thankfully. A couple of months later, I found him for 30 bucks, and picked up a second one. Then used the old receipt to return the new one at full price.

Even at these prices I'm planning to grab what I want when I see it. I missed out on Devastator because I hesitated because of the price. My local store got him in stock once, sold them quick and never got any more. I'm not missing out on Soundwave.

That’s a good way to throw money in the trash.
Then again, unless it’s a later wave, things almost never sell out in my neck of the woods. Almost every single mainline figure (that’s been sold in the likes of Walmart and Target) I’ve bought at full price in the last five years or so, I’ve found on sale or clearance later on.
The trade off to that, is the stores almost never stock the shelves beyond wave two or three.

Very rarely did I lost money doing this. Worst case was ordering the DOTM Ultimate Optimus Prime off Ebay 4 months in advance before it came out in Canada... And we all know how that toy went.
However one day I saw DOTM Guzzle on a Walmart peg at 10$CAN. "Meh, I'll wait 'till it's on sale." I NEVER saw it again in any store. Ever.
Now, if I'm hesitant, I'll wait. But if I really want it, I buy now and I save the receipt in case of a future sale. Because I can get refunded the difference if the coming sale is close enough. Plus TrU is VERY generous with it's rainchecks.

As I addressed in the second part of the post.
My issue isn't really with buying when you first see them, its with waiting being considered a cheapskate.
Saving money is ALWAYS the better, smarter option. Always. Doesn't always work out, thats true, but every purchase should always strive to be save as much as possible.

Ironhidensh wrote:My issue isn't really with buying when you first see them, its with waiting being considered a cheapskate.
There ARE cheap people. No denying that. But in my own opinion, genuinely "Scrooge Cheap" people are rare like a five leaf clover. People considered "cheap" have simply other interests than those specific toys and/or have a better sense of life priorities.
I may make no sense but that's why I consider calling someone "cheap" is like calling someone "albino".
Posted by Jelze Bunnycat on July 31st, 2019 @ 12:25am CDT
I apologize if anyone felt offended, I didn't think anything of it when I said "cheapskate" (if anything it was all in gist). It's always a battle between risking regret of not buying and regret of not waiting for a sale when first bought. I almost always wait and more often than not for too long (something my wife scrutinizes me for every single time), but eh...
Must be me being Dutch...

I saw several at that price, and let them go. I suppose if it was a good find you were excited about, congratulations are in order. I'll be checking another walmart this afternoon that messed up their packaging with safety devices to see if the price on them has been reduced, and if any have in fact sold. I told myself if I saw it for $15 I'd go for it, just as something *neat* for my son and I to mess around with...but we'll see.
