Full Reveal of TakaraTomy Mall Exclusive Transformers Masterpiece Set: Stripes, Nightstalker, Wing Thing, Enemy

With Nightstalker being a new mold, I think it's safe to assume that MP Broadcast's pack-in cassette will be Steel Joe Steeljaw.

Also, quite interesting that the set has the ID MP15/16-E, derived from the other two cassette sets.

I'm ALL about this! I'm ready.

Wingthing didn't quite end up in the color I was hoping for. But f*** it! AUDICONS!

I'm excited to see how Nightstalker transforms.

I like the look of Enemy and Wingthing.

While the colours look good on Stripes, I still think the mold is inferior to Device Label Ravage who could move his jaw, making him more expressive.

I never liked Nightstalker using Steeljaws molds. I always saw him as Ravage's twin and felt he should have shared Ravage's mold.

Anyway else find it interesting that if you translate Enemy's name to Hebrew, we've got a Transformer named Satan?

Actually, Satan means Adversary in Hebrew. Oyeb is the transliterated word for enemy.

I hope Nightstalker's very weird looking missiles are just a play on that toy using Ravage's missiles instead of Steeljaw's cannons. Steeljaw will need some serious retooling from that to look right.

Before I realllly started getting in to collecting, Soundwave and the Cassettes were already my favorites just because of what they were.

So. When I was learning about combiner teams, and how the each had a team name, I self-assigned the cassettes Audicons (audio-cons). Then I realized that the -bots and -cons suffix lined up with their faction. I came up with "Soundbots" but that just sounds stupid. I ultimately decided that if an entire race of transformers can be called "Mini-cons" and not all be Decepticons, then I would just stick with Audicons as a collective name.

A number of years ago, I was hoping it would catch on. At this point, I am just stuck with the term by habit.

Man those cassettes look great I wish I had the money to get them.

I'd rather Steeljaw came with Twincast, so I can display them next to the g1 versions, but whatever. Hopefully this renewed interest in the tapes means that the remaining decepticon tapes are in the works, and I'd love to see the tape combiners (including the autobot dinosaurs!)

Cassettrons is what our friends overseas call them in Japan.

Yah, the oddly placed missiles that don't fold out look terrible. It looks like he'll blast himself if he fires them. Hopefully Steeljaw isn't a reinvention and retains the proper wings that make Steeljaw unique with his release. If he doesn't ... sadly I'll retain my thoughts that they tried too hard and failed with the Masterpiece Cassettes by making them have weapon integration instead of separate weapons (though Rumble and Frenzy are the obvious exception). I would have preferred all of these guys to have separate weapons.

Ohhhhhh Yeaaaaaaaah So hype for this ! Bring on MP Blaster and Twincast! Finally Stripes, Nightstalker and Enemy finally get new toys based on their original Designs (TR Stripes Does'nt count) Wingthing i guess makes sense in this form since his Original Encore toy was a Ratbat Repaint and that Trait is carried over here but he is a bit of a departure from the Wingthing i'm used to (Action master Soundwave's partner). We're obviously gonna get Steeljaw from Nightstalker so let the Speculation and Repaint hope begin.


My hope for the Blaster cassettes
. Eject or Rewind whichever comes first to be repainted into the other and that mold to be used also as Flip Sides and Rosanna

i'm seriously surprised Ravage has'nt been repainted into Glit and Howlback yet. Same with Laserbeak into Sundor and Garboil.

I hope that these wonderful weirdos open the door for all the rest. I would kill for an MP Sunder! And y'know, maybe the precedence set with MP10SG, we'll see a giant ass Soundwave/Blaster box set in the future.

I mean... SG Soundwave and Blaster are ACTUALLY super cool... But I gotta tell ya' man. That would be a nightmare. Completionists have it bad as it is. If SG was a thing, who knows where they would stop...

The Shattered Glass concept, great for one-offs, is an absolutely horrid idea to keep around. Lazy man repaints galore! Please for the love of Primus let the Shattered Glass concept go away for a decade or so.

I mean, the Masterpiece line is almost on par with Combiner Wars on the absurd amount of repaints it puts out -- I must say I'd prefer an awesome Shattered Glass deco to obscure Diaclone E-hobby dude #3589.

As long as there are some SG stuff, that is ok with me!

Shattered Glass sticking around really only hurts us completionists, and I personally don't mind them (sorry Seibs). And a combination of getting the e-Hobby VS set and seeing a custom made me hungry for a MP SG Soundy

That's an amazing custom job.

Myself, I kiiiiinda like SG but not enough where I'd want more than a few SG figures in my CHUG collection- I wouldn't want a full SG collection, and I certainly wouldn't bother with SG MPs. SG got old fast, especially Walky's version of the Recordicons.

As for the Diaclone repaint vs SG argument, if we're only having one I'd go for the Diaclone dudes/dudettes. At least with the Diaclone homages it allows for original characters and concepts to exist, like Exhaust and Loudpedal (who also help bulk out the Decepticon rosters a little). SG is just palette-swapped existing characters. Now granted they could do them all, but the molds won't last forever and too many redecos is gonna destroy the molds. I'd rather we got a few decent redecos than a billion floppy, degraded ones.

Like, I'd never wanna see a Marvel SG Megatron attempt from MP-36 since that's not the kind of body-type that Marvel SG Megatron had. A proper Marvel SG Megatron would need to have the body-type of Energon Megatron.

I want tons of cassettes, so I'd love it if they did all the repaints. Kiss Players, Cobalt Sentries, Flip Sides, and , yes, Shattered Glass too. All of them, not just the ones from that one Soundwave / Blaster set.

Given that FunPub isn't around anymore, I wouldn't count on it, but I'd definitely buy it.

I don't see why SG repaints are any different from any other repaint.

100% agree. Especially on the building of the Decepticon army. The MP Autobots/Maximals VASTLY outnumber Decpeticons. It is the main reason that I want the black repaint of Ironhide. I love that mold, and I want them to name it Stockade. A Decepticon van would be so satisfying.

But I'm a completionist too. At least for cassettes. Including 3P cassettes, as long as it's an official colouration and not something just made up. It's part of the reason I kinda want SG version, at least of the ones that have them.

But, on a very basic level, there's just no difference between an SG repaint and a regular one, is there? Cassettes are one of the classic army builders too (at least the Frumble mould) giving even more of a reason for random repaints to exist. Even if you dislike the SG concept you could just pretend they're random generics.

I don't know why it took me so long to realize this, but this gives new purpose to MP-13B Soundblaster. I know the character has all the same cassettes, but in the toy world.... those aren't his cassettes to me. Not only that, the Ratbat he came with went straight to Soundwave, so for someone who's supposed to be an ensemble cast he's sadly solitary. Until now!

Think people will be snatching up all the 13B's now?
