It's Transformers Tuesday and Hasbro has revealed a new toy in the Transformers Legacy line, the titan class figure Metroplex from the Cybertron show/toyline, which is part of the Unicron Trilogy. This adds a new era of Transformers lore to the Legacy line which already had G1, G2, Beast Wars, and Prime characters.

Preorders are up now at various site sponsors like BBTS, TFSource and Hasbro Pulse for $200. Below is a product description followed by images. To answer questions that have been circulating online, there is no Mini-Con, no Cyber Planet Key, no axe configuration for his weapon, and his alt mode loses its cockpit. However, he is more articulated than the original, more complex (the hands have a transformation step to hide them for the alt mode) and much much larger, making him closer to scale with how he was in the show. He also retains a third worker mode. Also, we get our first look at wave 3 voyager Inferno on the box art, being destroyed.

Thanks all. What a strange and random thing to have as an altmode. On the one hand, it makes more sense than the "battle station" mode of Fort Max and G1 Metroplex. I've got no attachment in the character but, a piece of Machinery that
size will likely compliment the City Bots well. I paid £99 each for Trypticon and Fort Max. When this guy drops to that, I might pick him up.

Do we have the measurements on this figure yet? I imagine it will be a bit shorter than 2 feet because of the huge weapon accessory.

I like it as well, I used to have the Takara version that came with the legends class Optimus. I got it preordered, I have plenty of time to change my mind if I decide against it.

I'm gonna guess if the Titans are going to be continued, we're getting a Decepticon next, but who?

Each of the four colony worlds had a different theme:

Speed Planet: Racing
Jungle Planet: Beasts
Planet Earth: Humanity
Giant Planet: Construction

Metroplex and his people were of the Giant Planet and all turned into massive construction vehicles.

Alright, I guess the price increase is covering the extra materials and engineering. Even though this really just looks like an oversized version of the Cybertron figure.

Not Titan scale though. At first, unaware of the UT history. I thought his altmode was supposed to be a homage to the Hive machines in The Rebirth...

At least he's closer in size to how big he actually was in the cartoon.

Now we just need Supreme class toys (Commander class is too small) of Quickmix and Menasor to make all three Gigantion characters in-show-scale with the original toyline.

Cybertron Metroplex looks great. While losing the Cyber Key gimmick is a shame, it's still a fantastic figure in my eyes. And the "worker mode" is interesting.

Wew, that's a spicy callout. :-D

Anyway, one thing I think is cool is that the worker mode is quite different from the standard robot, especially compared to the OG toy. Also reminds me a bit of Engels from Nier: Automata with the bucketwheel arm...

Looks like a cool figure. I wonder if we can fanmode a city mode somehow out of him. Those modes are always my major reason for getting the Titans.
I'm thinking the Galactic Odyssey set with Ironworks would look pretty cool set up next to this.

Am I the only one that likes this guy. He;'s got some really nice improvements over the original like ankle title and hide-away hands, but otherwise provides a very accurate representation of the cartoon character.

I think its great. I may just bit the bullet and get him.

The missing cyber key and minion is kind of sad, the new weapon gimmick almost makes up for it. Not that the key did much anyway on the original. It juts split open the saw wheel and engaged the little red light. (no sounds).

Not having it, does not really detract form the overall figure in any way.

Guess I'll have to dig out my Cyb Metroplex from storage for a photo session with the new version.

Also, for those saying its good he's very tall, the original toy was always taller than everybody in full robot mode. Heck he was taller than Primus for Primus sake. Even though he was only Leader Class.

While Menasor was Ultra Class.

No attachment to the character, but happy for all who are excited for this.

The alt mode reminds me of the vehicles in a seemingly little known cartoon from the 80s called Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors. Anyone else remember this?

Looking at some of the stock photos, I noticed that he can actually open his mouth. When's the last time they bothered doing that for a 'human' face on a non-masterpiece figure? Have they ever done it? The only one I can think of is Haslab unicron, and I'm lumping him in with masterpiece for this given his price.

Off the top of my head, all three Leader class molds in Animated, and the Leader class Starscream mold from the 2010 Movie line, could open their mouths with each of their electronic speaking gimmicks.

Y'all know what's especially odd about this figure's lack of Mini-Con ports?

That Legacy Prime Bulkhead--a character who never used Mini-Cons as far as Hasbro's concerned--does have Mini-Con ports of his own.

The price hikes are because of upstream factors making production more expensive for HasTak. That's going to hit the class that requires the biggest molds and uses the most plastic significantly harder than it hits the others.

Surprisingly faithful. IMO he's the first UT update in 14 years to have some real effort and substance put into him.
Image
Yeah, I'm not counting any of the ones we've had since this mold. Aside from size troubles... Most are just headswaps, T30 Armada Starscream was too ephemeral, and Galaxy Upgrade Optimus suffers from not being a dedicated mold, just a way of capitalizing more on the Ultra Magnus mold (so no arm sockets, and no flying fire truck).

This new Cybertron Metroplex, on the other hand... And most of his deviations have good purpose (like making the work mode more interesting than just a "low clearance" thing).

He's not perfect, mind you. Sparkdrinker needs some 3P help IMO (new bucket wheel, extended shovel arm pieces because it seems like the shovel is shorted in reach compared to the original toy), and to be truly Gigantionian he needs Mini-Con hardpoints (I swear, if the 3P chuckleheads don't get on that they've lost their right to exist).
But he's still impressive, and he's actually larger than the original by enough that he's at least somewhat in show-scale with regular Cybertron toys. And, inaccuracies aside, his version of Sparkdrinker is thus better-sized to replicate this:

I'm honestly tempted because of that. But it would cut down on what else I could get, and I'm not sure how many more Titans I can make space for in my room... Hmmmm.

Or we could just deal with the name-sharing instead of lowering ourselves to Jafanboyism, and the detractors could stop being manchildren over it given name reuse over different incarnations has been going on for how many years now? And in this guy's case, Cybertron Metroplex was even clearly designed as a G1 Metroplex homage.
Re: Full Reveal and Preorders Up for Legacy Titan Cybertron Metroplex (2131745)
Posted by Evil Eye on April 19th, 2022 @ 6:20pm CDT
I mean, the character is originally Japanese, so technically "Megalo Convoy" is the proper name. (Side note, the wiki should really refer to Japanese-original characters by their Japanese names first and foremost, with the localized name put in the "foreign names" field, given that the Japanese version of, say, Car Robots is the original, with RID being a localized derivative work.)

Personally I quite like "Megaloplex" for an alt name for him, as it combines the two and distinguishes him from the G1 citybot. Though personally I'm not too bothered as I'm far more attached to "Giant Scottish builder who turns into a bucketwheel excavator" than "Big but otherwise unremarkable guy who appeared mostly in not very well animated episodes of an already poorly drawn cartoon".

Wow, I'm extremely conflicted. On one hand, our updated Megalo Convoy here looks fantastic and has a fascinating alt mode. On the other... is all of it worth $200? I haven't gotten a titan since Predaking, and God knows how disappointing that was. Probably going to pass, except in the case of a sale.

As a Cybertron fan, I am 100% down for this guy! He looks fantastic!

I'm slightly disappointed that he doesn't include a minicon (especially since every other non-combiner Titan came with a mini-dude), but I will wait and see if little Drill Bit ends up getting released elsewhere. I wouldn't mind a redeco of Countdown or something.

In regards to the name, this is the first Metroplex I knew, so the name applies here just as legitimately as it does the G1 character. If he needs some sort of qualifier, then he is Scottish Metroplex. MacMetroplex.

Bulkhead has proven to be a good bit of fun. He is pretty good, and the wrecking ball is lots of fun. I like that the shield ends up being sort of like his Animated counterparts back kibble with the back wheels of Prime mixed in there. There are lots of things to love, just wish a couple of things were different

Just goes to show it's good to have the latest data. In the mid 80s I remember my 4th grade teacher telling us that the Space Shuttle Crawler transport was the largest land vehicle. However it appears the Wheel Excavator has been around since the late 70s so she was about 6-8 years behind, to be fair though, we didn't have the internet back then ;)
Re: Full Reveal and Preorders Up for Legacy Titan Cybertron Metroplex (2131765)
Posted by Grahf_ on April 19th, 2022 @ 8:44pm CDT
I grew up on G1.
I love G1.
I had G1 Metroplex.
I have fond memories of Metroplex as a kid...most of which was him being in two pieces but I digress.
I didn't really watch Cybertron. Mostly because I didn't know when it was on.
I have Cybertron Metroplex.
I want a new Generations Metroplex.

I love Legacy Metroplex though. I don't normally preorder retail figures so I'm not going to but I will be getting it.

I just like cool toys. I couldn't care less about not knowing the character or whatever else. So long as I can budget it in, I get it.

Going slightly off the main topic to what was discussed previously around the Kickback abdomen discussion with redecos and retools though.

Someone on another site asked me why I would want so many redecos of a figure. In this case it was about the missing Takara Optimus Prime from a few years ago and that I'd want it in Black Convoy colors, Universe Ultra Magnus colors, Powerlinx colors and so on. I retorted; why does anyone want a redeco to begin with? Thundercracker and Skywarp are just redecos afterall. But otherwise though, if I liked the mold once, I'll like it again as someone else so long as it fits the character it's redone as or if they already shared a previous mold like people were saying about Flamewar and Arcee. You can even make a new character and I'll like that too.

It's like I already said, I just like cool toys. I don't need any other reason to get anything. It's just that simple.

Legacy Metroplex looks like a cool toy. I've always loved how simple his design was as it means he cleans up perfectly. It just makes sense for something so large to not have any extra parts flapping about and he uses every bit of himself to turn into his alt mode for the exact thing its supposed to do. Nothing superfluous and completely utilitarian. That in and of itself has beauty in it.

Also. Am I the only one who thinks Prowl/Smokescreen should be done as Cybertron Crosswise and 2007 Decepticon Jolt? And Energon Towline from Ironhide/Ratchet? And I would very much like a Quickslinger from any potential Cybertron Ransack to whoever said that nobody knows who she is. I do. I know who she is and I want one. I still just want cool toys.

On a side note tangent. Yesterday I got to pick through a warehouse filled with new old stock toys in Miami. Ranging mostly from the 90's but there was also stuff from earlier. Yet there wasn't a single Transformer in sight. I was disappointed. Just boxes everywhere from Hasbro and Kenner and all these other brands and not really a single thing I wanted. No G1. No late G1. No G2. No Beast Wars. No Machine Wars. Not even any Animmorphs. No Battlebeasts. No GoBots. No Rock Lords. No Robotech. No Power Rangers. No Superhuman Samurai Syber Squad. No Lion Voltron. No Vehicle Voltron. No Gladiator Voltron. No Voltron 3rd Dimension. No Thundercats. No MASK. No X-Men or Spider-Man Toybiz TAS figures. No Batman TAS figures. No Megaman. Nothing. The most I found were like three VR Trooper figures.

If I knew for a fact it wasn't already picked over, I would've sworn it was already picked over before I got there. I guess the original owner didn't have good taste when amassing it all. I knew the guy who purchased everything through the owner of the store I "work" at/manage. We drove on down and ended up with quite a bit of stuff to drive back to SW Florida with. So it's not like there wasn't good stuff. It's just nothing I was personally hoping for. I took a 4x4 Rubik's Cube and an Alaxender's Star Rubik's puzzle to give to my nephew the next time I see him and a Crossfire game for the breakroom at work. My nephew memorized how to do a standard Rubik's Cube and I always wanted to get him the more difficult ones but kept forgetting. Haven't seen him in a few years though as he lives across country so I wonder if he'd even care. I didn't change much in my 20's so I don't think he would've.

All that sweat and dirt and nothing I wanted for myself. Just damn though.

My dumb ass forgot to take pictures of the lot after I had it splayed out on tables so sorry for the lack of haul pics. It's all in my "boss'" hanger so I won't have pics for a while unless I feel like going back to his house and I don't want to get another headache for a while so it won't be soon.

Super happy with the way Metroplex turned out. The large weapon more than makes up for him not coming with some sort of smaller bot since the Titans that do come with one don't come with much in the way of weapons. I like that they made the alt mode more complex and found a way to tie the weapon to worker mode in an interesting way. I agree with others that have said we'll probably see Drill Bit elsewhere, maybe as a small Deluxe, bonus points if he has a shield shaped like a Cyber key.

Interesting thing about Inferno on the box, he has six regular ant legs instead of his arms and legs forming the legs.

Image
Image

I wonder what his transformation will be like? Maybe they can still go on the arms, but there are fake one in the art on the front of his legs. On the other hand Scavenger has six regular ant legs so maybe they're planning ahead to share engineering?

That's actually pretty funny, intentionally choosing two insect bots for this. But it isn't a weed eater it's a Sparkdrinker, that's the actual name of his weapon. Very metal! :michaelbay:

(Side note, the wiki should really refer to Japanese-original characters by their Japanese names first and foremost, with the localized name put in the "foreign names" field, given that the Japanese version of, say, Car Robots is the original, with RID being a localized derivative work.)

Unicron Trilogy was the first major collaboration between Hasbro and Takara that wasn't Takara importing something from Hasbro (G1, BW) or Hasbro importing something from Takara (RID). It really isn't correct to say one name is "original" when they both would have been basically simultaneous, certainly pre character reveals.

It's like I already said, I just like cool toys. I don't need any other reason to get anything. It's just that simple.

Seconded. I've never understood the argument that non-G1 figures wouldn't sell nowadays because they don't have 'recognition' to general audiences, when G1 obscurities like Doubledealer, Triggerhappy, Rotorstorm, and Impactor, who have the same amount of recognition, get mainline figures and no one applies the same logic to them. Their appeal is that they look awesome and are great toys.

Also. Am I the only one who thinks Prowl/Smokescreen should be done as Cybertron Crosswise and 2007 Decepticon Jolt?

I was thinking '86 Jazz :D

Their similarities have been demonstrated before:

Indeed. However I was going by the Smokescreen connection with the mold. That and I've heard less complaints about the Datson mold breaking than I have the Jazz mold.

Have no attachment to the figure and won't be getting it, but I reckon it looks pretty good - one thing I'd be interested in is how well he locks into place in alt mode. I'm glad I can take a break from Titan figures due to room and wallet issues.

He looks pretty solid but the price tag is a tad high...

And for those who complain cos it's not a G1 figure - they kinda ran out of characters to do at that scale - maybe a decepticon counterpart to the ark would be nice - otherwise if they revisit previous characters, think metroplex and fortress suffered the most. Maybe shorter, squatter, less floppy versions that are closer in height to skorponok would be nice.

I have the original Cybertron Metroplex, this just looks like an upscaled version without minicon ports or cyber-key gimmicks soooo ... I'm good.

While I'm very happy for everyone who is excited for this, I kinda feel like Hasbro scraped the bottom of the barrel for this one. I get they want to release a yearly Titan, and after Scorponok were out of G1 options (The Ark was a bit of a stretch), but choosing this guy? Maybe my disinterest is centered around the fact I didn't watch any of the cartoons from this trilogy, and only picked up some of the more interesting looking toys.

But, this probably does mean Tidal Wave is just around the corner, which is cool. He was memorable in the Armada video game.

As far as G1 options go, they never released an actual G1 Metroplex. The one we got initially was of the game design. A titan class G1 styled Metroplex would sell fairly well I reckon.
