Hong Kong newsgroup talk.transformers has posted images of the new Trans-Scanning Bumblebee and Optimus Prime figures. We had previously seen concept art for these two figures, but this is the first we see of the actual toys.

Both Bumblebee and Prime share the same protoform mold, but with attachable pieces that form the vehicle and earth robot modes.

See the original page for Prime here.

Pretty cool. They don't look exactly the way I thought they would; kinda "Shellformer-ish", but they're still pretty awesome. I think Bumblebee's a little cooler than Prime...

I'd like to see them fully colored before I give a yay or nay either way, but I like the concept and from what you can see in these pics they look pretty decent. I'd love to see a few more of tehse like Ironhide or Starscream.

I wonder if they're going to make different protoforms for Characters with different body-types like Bonecrusher or Ratchet.

Playmates already got a line out with robots hiding in cars and usein the car parts as armor call R.E.V s.

i got SixGunner and Knox myself but puttin the armor off and on and fittin the bot in car mode is a real pain and i c y the became shelf warmers in my area.

They fun 2 play with the but 2 much armor 2 plug and attach

Why are they putting out new versions of existing toys?

That's a very cool idea...I need to see the final colored versions before I pass final judgement. But I'm impressed that they transform too...

Their armored forms look cool, but too bad their proto forms aren't more personalized. A chance get some Protoform toys out there, but alas, I still have to wait.

Posted by Hip-Hoptimus Rime on November 16th, 2007 @ 11:31am CST
Very interesting, I imagine they'll be Dlx-sized. The robot modes look substantially different from the existing toys, which is pretty natural given how these new ones work. Still a cool idea tho, I hope they won't be too expensive and have good articulation.

I wonder if they actually transform like the existing ones, or if you have to pull the armor off, tf, and add the alt-mode parts. FWIW that'd be OK w/ me.

One nit I'll pick: BB never scanned the Concept Camaro disguise from his protoform, he had already assumed the older Camaro look when he scanned the new one. FWIW

these look pretty nice. Prime in particular impresses in both armoured modes, hopefully the protoforms are painted differently enough to make them distinguishable. Not sure from the pics if they will be properly tranformable with the panels added or if they'll be kinda lego-like but either way, if BB transformers better than the normal one it can't be a bad thing.

These remind me of a try serise that was out earlier in the year. No idea what it was called but it was pretty much the same thing. A basic 'robot' that you put the peices of the vehicle on to make armor.

Its the nature of Hasbro/Takara/whatever. Barring BW/BM (and arguable even then) all they've been doing since 88 or so is recycling old stuff.

Unfortunately, it's a Japanese release only.

The concept is pretty interesting. They like a cross between Transformers and Gundam. Plates that snap on and off, but able to transform.

They'd better release these outside of Japan, because I really want the Bumblebee. Unfortunately, right now it looks like they'll only be released in Japan.

Can I ask you a question? Ok, here it is: when HAVEN'T Hasbro and Takara released new versions of existing toys?

They are far from acurate, but I like the idea.

I'm pretty bored with the movie line at this point, but may import these just cause they are something different, and an idea that I'd like to see developed further

Same here, I've looked at them often, but just don't like the designs of that line.

like er... Knight of sodiac series or Kamenrider series.

The bulk and massiveness of Prime reminds me of Big Convoy a little. In my opinion they need to beef up Prime like that more ofter. Bumble Bee is blah

devzilla wrote:It's a gimmicky concept, but what isn't when it comes to the movie toys?

ahh but if you really think about it, the gimmicks are in the fact that the Bot and toy can transform, and the armor gives various disguises.. which in reality brings this toy even closer to the original concept!!

I am totally excited about these toys coming out, even more so then i was about the movie toys that have already been released!!

I mean where else can you get a Protoform mode, Comet space mode, a Robot mode, and altmode all in one bot!!!

this design is fabulous!! It's every movie fans dream come true!! I just hoep they make them in Voyager size or larger!! Takara tomy, lets use silver in place of that cheap toy Grey...Please...

here ya go guys:

I.. can't believe it. I've been asking them to do this for years. I always told them I wanted a figure that was both protoform and Earth form. These look amazing. The detail is stunning. Some may not like the shell pieces but to me it just adds to the ultra-detailed look of it. I can't say I've been this excited for a prototype since the BWneo Unicron Prototype. And it's something I've personally requested. (dies of happiness)
