We have known for a good while that Takara's release of the Transformers Studio Series would be near identical to Hasbro's release. But how identical exactly? Well, the boxes turn out to be a bit different, much more different than simply adding a sticker, which has been the case for previous movie toy lines. Most english writing has been turned to Japanese, especially in the back, and the Hasbro logo has been removed to only have the Takara logo.

Also, there is no presence of a window on the side, which so far shows a big autobot logo regardless if the toy is an Autobot or Decepticon. It makes sense that the boxes would be different, since Thundercraker is not on Takara's release schedule and the number he has from Hasbro is instead given to Takara's release of Jazz. The differences mentioned are only regarding the packaging, of course, since the figures have long been confirmed to be identical. Still for our Japanese fans and any fan who does not anticipate seeing the Hasbro versions in their area (and would thus consider ordering these), this is our first look at what the packaging will look like. The images below come from Hobby Search, Alfes on Twitter and Planet Iacon and we can even see a comparison between the Takara and Hasbro packaging.

Stinger has no gender, or specific identity aside from a name, and probably no sentience. It's a man made robot.

Like not really sure who is better between Stinger, Ratchet, Crowbar and Optimus. They are all ok but not phenominal and all have really obvious flaws.

That’s a really accurate assessment, but I’d say OP is better than just “okay.” Out of all of them, its Blackout, Starscream, and Prime that I keep going back to. He’s a lot of fun to mess with. I’d put his balance and playability above Ratchet, Stinger, and Crowbar. Although Crowbar is definitely a lot of fun.

Surprised to read that about Optimus. His chest drives me bonkers!

The chest is so sloppily done, and after 10 years of doing it pretty well to almost perfectly! The mind boggles. What really disappointed me when I saw the Studio Series version of Optimus Prime in person, though, is just how maroon the red plastic and paint look. That's just not at all the right hue.

The latest update - as notified by fellow Seibertronian westjames/notirish - from the official Hasbro Transformers social media accounts comes in the form of the 'Leaked from Cybertron' campaign, sharing some behind the scenes images and clips of figures from various lines - in this case, we're looking at the highly anticipated Blackout toy from the Studio Series line!

Check out below some brief sketches, prototypes and final product stock images, and join the conversation about this and other Studio Series figures in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Leaked from Cybertron: Here’s a sneak peek of how the designers went from board to bot with our Leader Class Movie 1 Decepticon Blackout.

It's not my TV or all things red would look pink. Hes not full blown pink but he is indeed a pinkish red.

This is from my TV, the car in the front is true red and stinger is not the same color.

Here's one from youtube:

Notice the slider at the bottom. That is true red. Stinger is not

As usual, Wolfman, I completely agree! What is so odd about this toy si that a lot of effort wnet into it. Out of all of the SS series so far, it has the most premium looking deco and probably the most parts. But its used in all the wrong ways with priorities in the wrong areas. So in the end, you get an optimus with not a great alt mode (sides and back), a robot mode with odd looks in the back and front, and a deco that doesnt look like anything I have seen on screen.

In the end, as a transforming toy, its decent, but as an interpretation of ROTF Optmus, it suffers bad.

Stinger looks to be more of a metallic, slightly darker red. Y'know, it probably would have benefited both figures if SS Optimus & Stinger swapped shades of red.

Maybe Stinger is red but shines sorta magenta/pink cos of his sheen or something. Like how you'd think Bumblebee is yellow but he appears very orange at times.

By the way still really enjoying Optimus Prime. I even find his transformation quite enjoyable and have done it back and forth many times while he's been on my desk these past few days. I may start doing some paint on him soon. Especially those black joints on the chest, painting them red where they form the window frames would help.

I'm really happy with him! I'd put him as one of the best deluxe Bumblebees that we've gotten so far. I think it really nails the look in both modes, I especially like the way the chest is formed with the angled headlights and everything. As for QC issues, I haven't had many problems with the roof on mine. Yeah, it popped off the first time I transformed it, but after getting a hang of the transformation it almost never happens.Really nice paint work, and his plasma cannon is the best out of any other movie Bee.

(Also, I won't be able to test this for a few more weeks but I think he'll scale really well with DOTM deluxe Barricade)

After seeing a video of Studio Series Optimus Prime on YouTube, I have to agree that the transformation is pretty interesting and complex, but it's all for naught because the figure just isn't up to snuff in on-screen likeness in either mode. I'm skipping this one. I already ordered Movie Advanced Revenge Optimus Prime (the 2010 Battle Blades mold) from eBay for a pretty good price ($79.99). That will be my Optimus Prime of choice for my new movie collection.

I respectfully disagree. Action figures dont transform. All they do is pose. By your logic, Barbie dolls would be considered "action figures" too. I gravitated towards transformers as a kid because I didnt want to play with little men dressed in tights. Transformers are the alternative to action figures.

Well, they ARE action figures... in part. But they are MORE. Transformers are also a vehicle (or something else) to roll or swoosh around. Plus, they are puzzles. Some TFs are more action figures than others, like the super articulated ones with tons of accessories VS the 2 steps bricks. Some are more puzzle like and some are better as cars.

Heck, some Transformers even have their own vehicles to ride on and some can be played "dressup" with all the optional armor parts they come with! Some have brushable hair like little ponies! Some are even construction sets / model kits with the ridiculousiness of their partforming.

That's why Transformers are the ULTIMATE toys. They offer infinite possibilities and can be placed in pretty much every categories of toys.

It's a figure. It can assume action poses.

Ergo, action figure.

I always thought that action figure was used to sell dolls to little boys...or have I been watch that one episode of Fresh Prince too much where carlton is defending his doll to will. Either way transformers are (almost all) action figures but not all action figures are transformers (though I bet a lot more wish they were)

Don't see why it matters though, it's just a classification at the end of the day it's like trying to deny bananas are a fruit.

Is anyone else hoping we'll get a few more Age of Extinction characters in the Studio Series before all is said and done? It would be nice to get, for instance, the retooled Crosshairs from The Last Knight with actual paint apps in robot mode, like on the Autobots United 5-pack version, and his "3D goggles" colored in with red and blue on the lenses. Maybe they could go the extra mile and fix the loose-fitting wheels? That would be a worthy $20 deluxe purchase, IMO.

Thanks to regular source of news from Weibo, the user tf-factory or 淘宝店变形金刚改造工厂, and via a notification from fellow Seibertronian westjames/notirish, we have some stock product images of the second wave of the Hasbro and Takara Tomy Transformers Studio Series line, featuring a Decepticon heavy line-up with Megatron, Brawl, Lockdown squaring off alongside Autobot Jazz.

You can check out all of the images below, which include looks at the backdrops, accessories, shots of both robot and vehicle modes with sizes (for the most part), and a couple of comparisons between the actual figure and the art of the character that they are intended to bring to life in plastic form. Give them all a look, and let us know what you think of them in the Energon Pub discussion boards!

Both Jazz and Lockdown look FANTASTIC! Jazz will be a sureshot purchase.

Not much interests in Brawl.

Megatron is quite barren or plain compared to the others. His base plastics should have had a shine like Optimus's red. I'm still getting him though.

Megatron looks to be the same level of disappointment that Grimlock is on, but I'll buy it anyway. I'm going completionist on this line. First time I've done that since the Unicron Trilogy.

The other 3 look amazingballs though.

These look really good! I LOVE that shot of Lockdown next to the Prime 1 Studio statue. Megatron's going to need some silver paint, but the mold looks good.

Also, I'm glad they're using the movie-styled Autobot logos on the right side of the displays now! It was bugging me that the wave 1 figures have a G1 styled Autobot logo.

That Lockdown look WAY better than the AoE version. Even though I have Peru Kill and the oversized AoE KO, I may just buy that one for my "standard scale" movie display.

Brawl looks much better now he's actually transformed properly. He's definitely on the bucket list.

Lockdown looks awesome, I wish he was bigger though.

Jazz looks a bit wonky somehow.

Jazz looks nice, but I'm fine with the human alliance figure. Lockdown is a good design, but I'm not too interested in him. I never liked that Megatron design, so I'll pass on him, despite the competent interpretation.

Strangely enough, Brawl is the one I'm most likely to get. His head looks squashed, but I kinda like him, and i want a nice accurate version of him.
