This is fun. Today, someone uploaded an image of Masterpiece Shouki on the Hobbymizer Facebook page. The image seems to come from the Takara order forms which are our first look at products sometime. We will probably get an official reveal from Takara soon, especially since they set up a new MPG section on their site. MPG stands for Masterpiece Gattai which means "combine" and so now we know that the inidividual Raiden pieces will be released in a subline of Takara's Masterpiece line.

The coloured image shows us the finished product of Shouki, the first train bot released in this subline. We see his robot mode, his train car mode and his combined mode.

Huh. Honestly this just looks like a chug figure. Makes you wonder why they didn’t just make simplified versions of these guys leader size in the WFC trilogy.

I'm not opposed to a Masterpiece Trainbot series, but it seems like an odd starting point for a combiner subline when there were so many other options available.

Wow, it is really kind of kibble-tastic isn't it. I know the cartoon model has some back and arm panels, but this kind of looks like a brick that transforms into another brick. It looks like articulation will be significantly restricted by the panels and backpack, and it doesn't seem to match the aesthetic of other Masterpiece toys we've gotten recently.

Curious what the price and combined mode will be like though. I have no real connection to the Trainbots so I don't think I'll pick this up but I'd like to see how Takara builds and prices a combiner in hopes that they decide to tackle other more popular combiner teams in the future.

Hot diggity! That solves the MPG mystery. Takara had Tweeted about it yesterday but then deleted the Tweet almost immediately.

I imagine the combined mode will be as tall as Titan Class Devastator?

I know some fans have speculated this is a subline, but I don't think so. I think MPG will just be tied to Raiden specifically. I mean news about this first was talked 2 years ago. Also, there's no telling when these toys will actually come out. If it takes 3-4 years to develop just one, I can't see them doing it for multiple combiners.

This news is very disappointing. I would really like a Raiden update, but nowhere near enough to spend the $600-$1500 the Masterpiece label will surely demand. I wish the Legacy: Evolution line was making these guys instead of another Menasor.

If that were the case, I'd be disappointed as well. But from all indications, although this is labeled as a MP, it appears to be more in CHUG scale. The comparison most people make is with CW/UW Devastator. It was scaled for MP, but with a Generations/UW Budget, which is fine. Although MPG Raiden will no doubt be more expensive. I would imagine somewhere between $70-100 per bot, making it $420-600 at the MOST.

I understand that STILL is a lot, but nowhere near the $1000-$1500 range. If they are released individually, that will make it a bit easier on the budget. Some fans gladly pay $400-$600 for 3P Combiners.

Plus as well as what O. Supreme said, it took HasLab to get western fans a shot at Star Saber, a much more recognisable face from the JG1 part of the franchise, there's no way they'd do Raiden as mainline retail.

I agree with your line of thinking. I'd go 1 step further and guess that the main reason for the new designation is to separate it somewhat from the regular MP line since I doubt they will be able to design a combiner to normal MP standards for the combined form, 6 individual trains and 6 individual bots. Some compromises will be needed somewhere and I'm guessing they will stand out somewhat from the regular MP line due to this.

I personnaly like the idea of purchassing them separatly. Being on a budget of late, it will be easier to get all of them one at a time rather then spit 700$ on a set. I'm really excited about this. Hopefully we will soon have a date for the first one to be released :)

Man, Shouki looks pretty good so far. One at a time release will be agonizing. But at least it will be cost effective.

Finally, a chance to have the trains!

I had seen some news a couple of days ago that the price was going to be somewhere in the neighborhood of $170.00 USD... But didn't want to post anything until it was more reliably sourced. It does look amazing, but man is this going to be tough. I guess I am thankful these are coming out one at a time. But at that complexity, I hope it doesn't take 6 years to finish. I guess I'm glad the 2022 Legacy Line doesn't have much I want, most of my toy budget will be going towards this.

I can see that actually, how much did Starscream ver 2.0 go for? And he could be cheaper via Amazon.jp

Awesome Thank you ALL. I had been registered on Amazon.jp to browse but never ordered anything. I have ordered from Amazon.ca and uk before, but I just thought I had issues with Amazon.jp in the past, might have been several years ago though.

When this eventually does happen, hopefully Pulse will offer it as well, a price comparison to get the best deal will definitely need to be thoroughly researched. ;)^

*update* just found the pre-order

https://www.amazon.co.jp/o/ASIN/B09HQPF ... sform0c-22?tag=seibertron00-22&

After shipping (unfortunately Prime US doesn't apply in Japan :-( ) it is just under $200 ($197.85 USD), and that is at todays exchange rate. I assume they don't charge until the item actually ships, so there is no telling what it could be in 9 months when this actually comes out. I think I'll wait. Pulse seems to offer most MP's. I'll see what they charge.

Oof, my only hope is that he will be the most expensive as part of the torso and that the arms and legs might be a little cheaper. But even then, it may be out of my price range.

The price is ludicrous. Imagine if all 5 figures cost around this price? Even the current 3P versions seem cheaper.

I'm definitely waiting for the KO and/or the full set of 3P figures instead.

True, the 3P version looks to be literally half the price, probably of comparable size, and much more cleanly engineered. That said, half the price is still a $700 combiner, not to mention the bot-mode scale difference between MP and Generations (which I pretty much exclusively collect). It looks like, unless I somehow miraculously find some toy trains of the right size and learn how to re-shell CW figures, my collection will lack a Raiden.

This is an MP combiner, it was always gonna be expensive. If Beast Wars Blackarachnia which only goes from tiny bot to spider is $150, the leader component which goes from train to bot to combining component was not gonna be less.

That said, this was my face when I saw the price:

Image

And O. Supreme, Amazon japan will be your best option, no matter what price Pulse will have it at. Expect the price to decrease by 25% what it is now in the coming month, that always happen since retail prices in Japan for non exclusive figures are usually 25% off the SRP which is reserved for TTMall and trading through imports.

Takara is making quite a few reveals through the day for new preorders. Most are for toys Hasbro has already revealed or released but here is probably the biggest reveal: Transformer Masterpiece G Series MPG-01 Trainbot Showki. This is the first component of the first Masterpiece Combiner in the Masterpiece G spinoff line and it is the leader of the trainbots that make up Raiden. This item was revealed through an Amazon listing in Japan where it is currently the number 1 best seller in the hobbies category. And that's not small feat since the price is higher than many hoped for. The Japanese SRP is 18000 Yen which is equivalent to about $160 USD. The price on Amazon Japan (which includes the Japanese tax which will be removed for any buyer outside Japan) will surely come down by about 25% in the coming weeks so make sure to keep an eye here: https://www.amazon.co.jp/o/ASIN/B09HQPF ... rtron00-22?tag=seibertron00-22&

You will notice that it comes with a train track and a partsforming piece for the combined mode.

I was excited for this thing, but that's evaporated, $150 and it needs extra parts to combine, while looking like an exploded train for no reason? it looks awful, from the backpack to the general panel-y-ness of it, say what you want about CW but keeping things stream-lined and simple had it's benefits, this looks like a mess :(

I too don't think this looks great. But him being an exploded train is accurate.

Takara is going all out with their Transformers Masterpiece MPG 01 Trainbot Shouki. They have a whole section on their site for him with lots of new pics and even a video on youtube showing the different features. Those include opening up the front of the train mode to have a minifugure drive. We also see a shot of Shouki with other MP figures and he is indeed MP scaled, which should make for a giant combiner. Speaking of which, we have a silouette of Raiden as well.

Also, there is some misinformation of the price online so please read this carefully. The MSRP of this toy is 18000 yen. Any price mentioned that is higher adds Japanese tax which only concerns Japanese citizens. Also, there will be an inevitable discount on Amazon that is routine with non exclusive figures since the prices sold at retail in Japan are always lower than MSRP. So, the price on Amazon Japan could go down to about $120 USD for Shouki in a week or two. Of course, you will have to add shipping and customs fees if that is applicable to your country (USA is not charged customs fees, lucky).

Here is the place to preorder this toy and be eligible for any price drop which is routine on such listings: https://www.amazon.co.jp/o/ASIN/B09HQPF ... rtron00-22?tag=seibertron00-22&
It will also tell you the time limit you have to cancel your toy if the price drop is not significant enough for you or if you change your mind.

Man this is going to be tough. Still, I prefer to wait and see if Pulse offers this as opposed to gambling with fluctuating exchange rates and possible Amazon price changes. I'll still keep my eyes open and all options including Amazon if it does work out for the best.

Raiden will look really nice next to PotP Predaking though, although he will likely be 3 times as heavy and 4-5 times as expensive (:| (:|.

These will be my first MP's since I bought MP1 when it first came out, and then sold it in 2007

The trainbots form part of that category of Japanese exclusive toys that I wish I had as a kid.. my only connection was the Japanese headmasters cartoon… not enough to make me interested in an map figure.

If it were a generations titan figure, I’d be all over this. It’s final price as an mp will rival unicron’s.

true, but it is a price that is broken up into smaller installments as opposed to Unicron's full upfront price, which is how a lot of people (not me) justify the third party combiner purchases. Some of which are more pricey then this guy.

that being said, I have no connection to this combiner team, so I was initially like "yay, an mp toy I don't need, finally don't have to keep shelling out me cashola"

MS-01 Dark Knight & MS-02 Ice Land
MS-03 Iron Arm & MS-04 Moon Shine
MS-05 Green Zone & MS-06 Cool Peak

Which in total comes to £479.97 (or £119.97 via deposit). A cheaper alternative to TFSource, in light of customs, shipping etc.
