A Voyager Class that's robot mode is just about the size of a Deluxe class???

Yes he's short...
He's also really, really bulky (hence the name...).

My big question is what the heck does the black button
on his right bicep do?

W00t, I made the news.

Oh, right, back on topic... I like what I'm seeing of the fig so far. The packaging is still a little out there, but I definitely intend on picking him up.

I do wish they'd decided to call him Crumplezone or something, though. I swear he looks like some long lost distant relative... XD

THAT'S supposed to be a Voyager?! The things SMALLER than a Deluxe!

Blackout: Welcome to the club, Bulkhead.

I don't like the colors that Animated is running with. Everything is both bold and flat at the same time.

The shape of the box I like, I hate when the fronts bubble out, you can never store those.

Either way, this figure is a pass for though.

Apparently, the Black tab activates a punching action on his right arm.

I really like the look of this figure, he has proportions that suit the character, even if he is short for a Voyager (or even a deluxe) he does have a lot of bulk. Unlike Movie Blackout he doesn't lose half of his alt mode to make his robot mode, which is good.

Loving the paint work and the show likeness of this line more and more. Bring on June 08!

Excellent.

In bulkheads case the box seems to work, its bright and you can see the toy. Admittedly in box he looks more like an easter egg and that box really needs to be square.

What i like about the overall look is that it actually looks like a.......TOY, it looks like something a kid might get a bit excited over. The only thing that bothers me is the lack of a tech specs card or sheet, even energon had those, it just gives a little more individuality to the bot. Bulkhead reminds me of a cross between the macross destroid spartan and monster. Despite haters saying bulkhead isnt popular (they seen polls or something?? or asked kids their opinions??) i reckon kids will like him just because hes 'big' and bulky.

I wonder how well this will sell since the alt mode is not something that kids can easily identify (in my opinion).

That's probably intentional, seeing as Bulkhead's a big dumb oaf.

im not sure bulkheads alt mode is especially outlandish compared to TF from any line, if anything he is rather ordinary, a four wheeled (edit:6 wheeled!)roundish little truck.

the transformation is great, looks simple but ingenious (In contrast to move BB 08 which is quite ingenious but fiddly and probably annoying for kids), I like the folding wheels to form the heels. The lack of bot stuff showing in the alt mode is commendable and the kibble works as it should by actually forming the robot proper instead of getting in the way (classics prime arms and back) or being little more than a shell. kudos to the designer.

1.) The packaging is ridiculous. (Far too much wasted space.)
2.) He's too small to be a Voyager. (Ultra would've been perfect for him.)
3.) His transformation is far more complex than I imagined. (Plus!)
4.) He captures the animation model almost perfectly. (So bought.)

I'm seriously P.O.ed about the size class differences, but I'll forgive it.

I've said from the beginning that I like the Animated toys as a whole, but I DO NOT like Bulkhead, and I have no plans to buy him.

However, while I still am not going to buy him, these pictures DO make him look better than I've seen so far. This is the first I've heard that his toy actually has his "wrecking ball" from the show, so I think that's really cool. I may not buy him, but I think there will be plenty of kids that will think he's pretty cool, so I think he WILL sell.

Yeah, he's grown on me... I like him... But not enough to buy him. :P

I also wasn't planning on picking up Bulkhead, but I wish this line would hurry up and get here. I know they're still trying to get all they can from the movie but the show is on now so get these out. Some of the show's novelty might be worn off by the time they show up.

I wish they'd make him bigger.
He's a great figure. lots of features. lots of articulation for such a bulky guy.
but he's so fricking small!
unless Voyagers get cheaper...
no I still really want him.

So far nothing I've seen of this line has really wowed me. Yeah they're accurate to the show but I just don' like em. Its like the regular star wars figures and the cartoony clone wars one, they're just not growing on me
Re: First Look at Animated Bulkhead In-Package (598149)
Posted by Firebird on January 8th, 2008 @ 8:09pm CST
The one good thing is that all the empty box space just may be filled up with larger figures for the decepticons, because all voyager class figures would use the same boxes.
If you look at the starscream in box pictures in the other thread he seems to fill up the box more than Bulkhead.

As far as buying Bulkhead, he really doesn't interest me that much. He just doesn't have the same wow factor the other figures in the line have.

I like Bulkead, but not as much as Starscream, Lockdown, and Prowl from this line. I can't say for sure if I'm going to get him, but one thing is for certain: I'll feel a little more self-conscious walking around with that box which screams "GUY IN HIS LATE 20'S IS BUYING A TOY MEANT FOR A 5 YEAR OLD!!"
Re: First Look at Animated Bulkhead In-Package (598181)

Since I saw the first prototype pics, Bulkhead has remained one of my favorite animated figures. The small size doesn't really bother me as I'm running out of shelf space as it is.

Hey I'm with you there. Size is overrated. If anything I'd like to see more smaller transformers. It'd be nice if they did Bumblebee and some of the others in scout size, to scale with Bulkhead's bot mode.

I think the figure looks great here. The packaging is awesome. Has a nice clean designer feel to it. It does seem that there's a lot of wasted space though. It would be a good time to have something extra hidden in there, like a special weapon or a human character or something.

I'm diggin' it.
The look, the transformation, the colors, and I even like the packaging.
Size??
A pretty big disappointment imo.
I know there have to be reasons, but I don't understand why scale isn't taken into account more.

Definitely getting him.

I think you're missing the point, mate. If people are paying for a Voyager, they expect to get a Voyager, not a fat Deluxe-sized dude. :-B

I have to say it, but this toy kids is what you will get every time you get a C at school BUT, if you come back home with a D- you will have to play with it for the rest of the summer... is that understood???

Or rather... this is designer brain after an overdose... so don't do drugs, buy transformers :-?

I'd sooner pay voyager price for voyager quality rather than size. My hybrid style Optimus wound up costing more than a leader class, and when you come down to it, the thing's more or less scout size.

But then I like my bots small.

While I understand your point, not all Deluxes and vVoyagers have size limits. Take the Movie version of BB and put him next to a Classics one. Both are great figures, about the same price point, but with a noticeable size difference. With the cost of things these days, I'm sure the cost of materials used can factor into some smaller sized Voyagers.

I too agree with that. Most of the time the bigger bots just feel like upsized deluxes anyway.

Size class is determined by the amount of plastic used and weight of the item. Not on it's height compared to others in the same class.

That Bulkhead figure is sweet. I can't wait for it to come out. Did anyone else noticed he's voiced by Dawber from Coach? Also, if you look on the back of the box.. he doesn't need a fembot, he already comes with a Ball & Chain

Looks good. Deffinatley picking this up. The more I see of this line the more I want it. I like that the transformations are rather simple. After CYbertron and the movie lines its nice to get some figures that dotn take 10 min to transform. Also the packaging is nice and fits in the the streamlined/simpliler looks that the show is going for.

Honestly I think he is in scale with the others. He is super bulky in the show, but he still comes out at about Primes height. Prowl and BB are smaller characters so they're deluxes. Seems things are right about perfect from what I can tell. I still want to see all of them lines up beside each other though for some confirmation.

Re: First Look at Animated Bulkhead In-Package (599555)

Bulkheads toy is out of scale with the others, he is smaller (maybe 2/3 what he should be) if you compare him in the animation to the toys (luckily his alt mode is still bigger than any of the deluxes). BUT Consider 2 things:

1)Bulkhead is a voyager size toy in terms of material used, if his design was different and his arms were his legs hed be a tall character and nobody would be saying that hes a delux size, as it stands his long appendages are his arms, not his legs so he is a shorty voyager.

2)Importantly, if he were to be made in scale he would have to be a leader class toy, which means he'd be more like $40 and as hes one of the main characters from the beginning of the show i can bet hasbro did this on purpose to bring the price of the main characters to a more affordable range. Remember that due to his bulk if his height was raised say 30% which would put him in toon scale you would end up with a huge toy probably close to 3x the mass of the voyager sized figure.

in a nutshell: bulkhead IS justifiably a voyager and hes not to scale because hasbro wanted to keep the core characters close to each other in price range (or in the $10-20 range), they didnt want to risk not selling an in scale $40 bulkhead.

If im talking nonsense then have some hasbro insider tell me otherwise.
