Blackout never came back plus Grindor was in the trailers and it was said they are separate.

We never saw Blackout come back to life (cons had one shard)

While similar Grindor is a different chopper from Blackout

The games call him Grindor so do the toys and he is never called Blackout in rotf so I'm sure it is safe to call him Grindor.

That wasn't blackout in ROTF? I thought it was, my bad.

So basically you can get the Evasion mode Prime with chrome, and a faceplate, in the two pack with Grimlock

OR

Evasion mode Prime without chrome, closer G1 robot mode, with flames, and a faceplate with the 6th or 7th domestic release of the Classic Prime mold, with chrome. Don't know about you but I'm having a hard time figuring out which set I want.

Well, I still don't have that classics Optimus mold, and was never able to get any of its other releases. Very, very tempted by this two pack.

I feel like the confusion about which product you prefer is part of the business strategy with all of these repaints. Somewhere in these, if you mix and match parts, is the perfect versions of each of these molds. Curious to see what people come up with.

This is going to be crazy for the galleries by the way ... I finally have my hands on Crystal Convoy, I never did the gallery of Henkei Ultra Magnus, we've got Fire Guts Ginrai coming out and now this one. Oh! And Cloud Convoy as well. 5 galleries of one mold 8 years after it was released after having been so used in the past. Very interesting!

I'm just wondering what condition that classic Prime mold is in, I'm expecting much looseness.

I love this comment from people. After 30 uses of the Classics Starscream mold, I think we should be able to finally move away from this thought process about molds degrading after time. Those molds are amazing and they will last the test of time. The only question should really be whether or not the original mold was made of "sturdy stuff" or made from a lesser material that gives way after time.

I'm of two minds about this, as on one side it's the same old classics prime mold for the umpteenth time and as much as I like the mold I'm still waiting for someone to one-up it IME, but... DEM CHROME PANTS! :ic$:

My classics Ramjet was loose out of the package. Thundercracker, Dirge, and Thrust from Games of Deception all had loose legs. Target Legion Smokescreen and BH Bluestreak were both loose messes. Bluestreak in particular had issues with the arms staying clipped in. It can't all be bad luck. Then again it could, it's me.

Sounds like bad luck. I don't have those issues with any of those figures. Classics Ramjet wouldn't even make sense of mold degradation since it was the 2nd use of the mold out of "30" times (which is arguable if you want to debate that the mold was split off at some point to do the "Conehead" variants).

I don't think I could have all that bad luck, especially considering that retail Thrust and Dirge were made from a second production mold and are fine.

'cause that's what I want. I've never been fussed with the G1 inspired version, toss some flames on him and he's even more unwanted.

Given his alt-mode (which may or may not be a plot point) I think Cyclonus may have been one of the codenames Hasbro used to obscure the new character's names in case of leaks- So in this case, it might have been Drift's.

I think I prefer the regular version of Evasion Prime, don't like those flames one bit.

Well, i'll be having that! No classics Prime in my collection and it looks like one of the better red versions. I'm not keen on that Evasion mode one but this 2pack will still be cheaper than hunting down a Henkei or Cloud Op.

Oh my god, that Classics Prime is gorgeous! I never thought I'd see the day where I might think of replacing my 2006 version of the mold. (Although I may do some parts swapping... Most notably the smokestacks.)

I'm torn on the Evasion Mode Prime included... On one hand, I like the vehicle mode deco and some of the other color choices better on the regular release. On the other hand, this one has a faceplate! I suppose I could just get both, and do some parts swapping between them. Or I could just get this two-pack version, and be happy with it seeing as it was the only TF4 toy I was even mildly interested in, anyway.

I have no doubt about it. The color placement is about right (though this is a dark gray rather than the blue we're used to seeing on Drift toys), it's almost the right shape, and it's got missile pods like the Skyhammer mold has. Plus, it's got an Autobot faction symbol slapped on the side, so that narrows it down some.

My guess is that, like Optimus and Bumblebee, Drift has an Evasion mode of some sort. :-? He's in hiding, disguised as a helicopter (or a Bugatti, it could be either one) and when the Autobots reveal themselves, he scans a different alt-mode. That, or he's a Triple-Changer and Hasbro couldn't engineer that into a Deluxe figure without it looking horrid.

That's slightly less evil then usual with toy swapping, as at least it is still a representation of the same character, and in the same mold... but you're still advocating for people* to unload a sub-par product on a poor, unsuspecting kid (or to piss off a fellow adult collector if they go looking for an Evasion Mode Prime in a store, and all that happens to be left on a shelf is this Frankenstein parts reject). Not cool.

If someone buys a toy for parts, congratulations! They bought a toy. It is theirs. They should either keep it, try and sell it (disclosing what was done to it) on eBay or someplace similar, or gift it to a friend (or a friend's kid). They should not return it to a store, get their money back for a product they have extensively made use of, and take that money to the bank while leaving open the possibility that some poor, unsuspecting person will be buying a toy that is not the toy they are expecting.

Like I said, slightly less evil in this case since at least it is still the right character, and the right mold of that character. But still evil enough to qualify anyone who does this as a douchebag.

Is it any more douche that the strategy Ryan believes Hasbro is using to persuade collectors to buy both sets ? Not sure if youve ever been to a fleamarket where the figures formerly owned by little kids end up. Its a parts graveyard. An arm here, a torso there missing a head. Ive had to swap out defective or broken hasbro parts many times and I switch out the parts with the most perfect paint apps as reimbursement for my gas and wasted time. I havent done head swap with different figures before. But if the toy shelves are overflowing with AOE toys like they always are during movie season, I wouldnt feel bad. Ah yes, the argument of, "Person or corporation 'A' is doing something questionable, so therefore obviously I am perfectly right in doing something of comparable questionableness myself!" Tell me again when is that ever an acceptable argument? Would it sound acceptable to you if I said, "Well, the NSA is apparently spying on whoever they please, so that means it is okay if I break into my neighbor's apartment, bug their phone, and set up hidden cameras!" I suspect not. (And if you do think it would be fine for me to do that, I would worry about those close to you.)

Rated X wrote:Not sure if youve ever been to a fleamarket where the figures formerly owned by little kids end up. Its a parts graveyard. An arm here, a torso there missing a head.

So now you're equating buying used toys with what one should be able to expect new at retail? If I go to a flea market, and I find parts, I know what I'm buying. If I go to Toys 'Я' Us and buy a toy off a shelf, expecting one thing and finding another when I get the box open, then not cool.

Rated X wrote:Ive had to swap out defective or broken hasbro parts many times and I switch out the parts with the most perfect paint apps as reimbursement for my gas and wasted time. I havent done head swap with different figures before.

I'm confused here. Are you still talking about flea markets, or are you back to original retail?

If someone has to swap out a broken part or something on a new toy they just bought, then if they did so with the knowledge of the store's staff ("I bought this toy here, and this part is broken/missing. Can I swap it out with this part from the same toy off of your shelf?") then that is perfectly acceptable, and if the resulting product the store is left with ends up back on their shelf, that is the store being a douche, not the customer.

If, on the other hand, this hypothetical person is going into a store, and doing one of these:

-buying multiple versions of the same mold, swapping parts around to get one figure they like, and returning the rest
-buying a new version of a toy they already have an old version of with a broken part, to replace the part and return the "new" toy with the broken part
-buying a new version of a toy they already have, where they like the new one better, throwing the old toy into the box and returning it

...then that person is a douche.

Rated X wrote:But if the toy shelves are overflowing with AOE toys like they always are during movie season, I wouldnt feel bad.

So... a store's sub-par purchasing decision is an expectable reason to cause potential harm to that store's other customers?

Rated X wrote:I never claimed to be the most ethical person in the world. My momma didnt raise no boy scout...

Posting from a cellphone here so I cant do all the cut and paste stuff. Let me try to answer your questions. I know 2 wrongs dont make a right but it is what it is. If hasbro pulls a dick move thats not in the collectors favor, they have to remember collectors can be dicks too. On fleamarkets and parts graveyards, i was suggesting where a majority of little kids toys end up anyways, so I flat out dont feel guilty for toddlers who get a not so perfect figure. As I stated before, I have never swapped parts out from different figures, only identical ones. And I dont go to a different store as your cartoon suggests, I go right back to the same store and tell them this figure came broken. If they choose to put it back on the shelf, its on them not me. If someone else chooses to keep a defective or tampered figure and rather than returning it, its on them. Nobody forced them to keep it when they had a right to return or exchange it. On the boy scout thing, ive read your sig before. I dont want to go off topic, but they havent always had the most ethical standards either. I salute their decision to end a certain type of discrimination. Hats off to them for finally doing the ethical thing ;)

Scopes really needs to do an article on "toy mold degradation." This isn't 1984, people. Molds can be remade again and again. You can machine the parts you need from information stored on a computer to recreate a mold. Variation in print runs of any mold comes down to differences in quality control for that particular printing.

I feel like the confusion about which product you prefer is part of the business strategy with all of these repaints. Somewhere in these, if you mix and match parts, is the perfect versions of each of these molds. Curious to see what people come up with.

Thats exactly what people are gonna do...mix and match parts. Theyre gonna buy both sets, Frankenstein the perfect Prime, and then return the crap bot to the store for some little kid to buy and never even notice. Personally I wouldnt blame them for doing it.

What kind of nonsense is this? In what world do you people live in?

One can never return a product to a store if it was opened in my country.

I can't believe a store has some sort of fruitcake policies.

If I buy something in the store, It is new unopened. It is totally unacceptable if someone else opened it and then returned it.

Speaking of 1984, how many repaints and re-issue does the original G1 Optimus Prime have? No one ever had issues with it. So obviously, if it's a mold that is a cash cow, they either take really good care of it or they don't mind remaking it. That's why some molds remain perfect no matter what (G1 and classic OP, classic seekers) but others, like Movie 2007 voyager Starscream, have less than perfect later versions.
That is the theory my genius mind tell me.

In Canada, it is perfectly normal for a non-disk product to be returned open if the thing is defective. I recently bought Generations Rhinox and I couldnt wait to transforming it on my way back (I have no car). Suddenly, a hinge snapped off randomly and I didnt even forced it. So, you can bet your ass that I turned around and went to TrU's customer's service. I returned Rhinox, telling I just bought it litterally minutes ago and I asked for a replacement. I got another one without any problem. It's perfectly okay to do so and it's a protected right. However, I will never, ever steal a toy by returning an incomplete product and/or returning some crap that I swapped. That is wrong and only evil bigots feel justified of doing so.

I'm guessing a European country?

If that's the case, stores here do have return policies, but they're way more strict than those in the US and rely much less on the honor system (and that's a good thing!). Generally speaking, products can be returned to stores here if:

- the packaging is unopened, or:
- the product can be proven to be faulty/broken as is

Usually, the return period is 30 days or 24 hours for unsealed media like games, DVD's and Blu-Ray. You will need the original receipt for all returns for verification. All this is to prevent fraud and in our case, Toy Swapping.

I wonder if I am the only one who thinks Majority of the AOE toys are extremely cheap looking? I picked up Evasion mode Prime, Leader Prime, and Voyager Grimlock. I am debating on getting Leader Grimlock, but after un-boxing Leader Prime and seeing how phoned in the toy was produced and sold for $45 I feel let down.

These Toys are a huge departure from the three previous movie figures.

There's a lot to like about this repaint of Classics Optimus Prime, especially over the initial Hasbro release in 2006, but those weird paint apps on the toes and knee caps kind of kill it for me. I don't know why Hasbro is so gaga for toy sticker details when they just look silly. I still think the Henkei version from Takara is the best treatment of the mold to date.

Collectors can be dicks. I don't want to be that kind of collector, nor do I think the majority does. Some people do, however. And even if you don't personally do this, the fact that you don't seem to have a problem with it is strange to me. So, if there were others in your area who did do this, and if you walked into a store hoping to find a new item you were looking for, and for a moment it looks like there is one on the shelf and you get all excited and pick it up! ...only to notice a moment later that the wrong toy is in the box, and there are no others on the shelf, your response shall be, "Awe, shucks, those silly toy swappers! Oh well," before walking away whistling a jaunty tune?

Rated X wrote:On fleamarkets and parts graveyards, i was suggesting where a majority of little kids toys end up anyways, so I flat out dont feel guilty for toddlers who get a not so perfect figure.

So here your argument is that, because over time some kids toys will become less then pristine over time, it is acceptable to sell them pre-messed up toys? Seriously?

Even discounting adult collectors, which admittedly (as much as we like to tell ourselves otherwise) are not Hasbro's primary market, not all kids trash their toys. Some take care of them. And even for those who do take less then ideal care of them, well heck, that's part of being a kid and it is their right. But if a toy is bought for them with the expectation that it is new, it is only right that they receive it that way! What happens to it afterwards is irrelevant to that fact.

Rated X wrote:As I stated before, I have never swapped parts out from different figures, only identical ones. And I dont go to a different store as your cartoon suggests, I go right back to the same store and tell them this figure came broken.

Well, good on you as that is the proper way. But even though you may not do things improperly yourself, the fact that you have stated that you have no issue with those who do do such things is still somewhat saddening. To provide the same mindset in an extreme example, "I don't murder random people myself, but if you feel like exploring a career as a serial killer, hey, that's your right! Go for it!"

Absolutely no disagreement with you here. As much as I think the Boy Scouts is an excellent organization, that is unfortunately marred by the fact that two major groups have been historically excluded from membership. That they have loosened this restriction on youth members of one of these groups is a step in the right direction, but they still have a ways to go.

(As for the stories hosted on the webpage mentioned in my signature, if the stories get far enough, one of the characters will be revealed to belong to one of these aforementioned groups, and since the series is set in the late 90's, all restrictions will alas still be in place. And it should be noted that the character in question is one of the main characters, and one of the characters based on a real person. Alas, such an event isn't planned to take place in story for quite a while yet... I really need to get back to writing... And to doing Transformers reviews -- that website's gone too long without an update, too!)

Oh? Strange because I think the exact opposite. So far, I have AOE Leader Optimus, Voyager Grimlock, and Evasion Optimus Prime, plus deluxe Scorn and Snarl. All of them don't feel hollow nor cheap at all. They are full of paint aps, the toys feel solid and not brittle. Furthermore, Leader Optimus Prime feel more like a premium Takara toy than a Hasbro one. Sure, CAN60$ + taxes was expensive, but the thing feel very high quality, with the chrome in the right places and is full to the gills of paint aps. Also, them RUBBER TIRES.

Seriously, AoE toys are light years ahead of Generations FoC and RiD PRime, where toys were hollow with very, very thin plastics.

I'm really looking forward the rest of the main line. Especially the other dinobots and the other voyagers.

Amen. I think enough molds get reused often enough that we can start to question this concept.

Anyway, this is a nice version of Classics Prime and a fairly decent version of Evasion Mode OP. If anything it's got the faceplate amd black gun so I might pick it up if it goes on clearance.

I should've waited a little longer for Classics Prime... the fifty bucks I paid for him could've gone for this, a slightly superior deco (not crazy about the chrome, though), and the addition of another figure that I am sorta interested in.

I've picked up a few of the AOE toys so far. I've only opened one at this point, however, which is the Evasion optimus. I have to say that for me, the Hasbro pics didn't do it much justice. I was pleasantly surprised at how nice he looked in person, and even more sore, how well all the panels fit together in vehicle mode. The Hasbro pics I've seen make it looks like the windshield doesn't line up at all between panels, but they do on mine.

As for the other figures, I've only looked at them in their packaging and then put them in my "To be opened" pile as there is a queue of figures I have to open before I get to them. I was just so impressed by the evasion prime I kind of gave it a vip pass to the front of the queue LOL :HEADHURTS:
