It was bound to happen eventually. Even Third Parties must repaint or remold their creations. But when it comes to FansProject, I guess we could say - any repaint or remold is acceptable with open arms. We have yet to receive Protector, but now FansProject has surprisingly revealed their varient for it - Shadow Scyther, which would seemingly work well with both Gentai Wildrider or Shattered Glass Rodimus. Check out the sketch below!

This also looks to be the first image of the large wings (or fins) for the back of Protector or Shadow Scyther.

Yeah, my guess is that it's for Wildrider. Either way, if it's for Rodimus, Wildrider, or SG Rodimus, I'm buying it.
What we really need is a crystal armor set for the Sons Of Cybertron Rodimus set.

Oooooo this set will be for my Crystal Rodimus and the Protector for my Classics Rodimus. That is if I cannot get my hands on a Shattered Glass Rodimus.

AHHHHH LUCKY!!! x( They had Shattered Glass Rodimus, Jazz, and Blurr on auction and it went for $230 i think, i had to stop at $180 x( :sad:

Hopefully this isn't the final design for the scythe accessory as it looks kind of silly with the Chiclets for what I'm assuming are supposed to be serrated teeth on the blade.

My god that scythe is soooo cool....

Do we know if that scythe will be a part of the regular Protector set? Seems like it would be considering the size, but then again there's the pink sword for shadow commander...

I agree 100000%... How many people actually have a Sg rodimus/wildrider? Not that many..To make a upgrade set for it alone seems a tad bit foolish..I mean a Sg roddy is already fetching 3-4 bills alone..With a upgrade kit? were talkin close to doubling that..maybe even more..That's insanity...

I really hope this'll be SG rodimus colors. How an SG Autobot would "rise" though, I dunno. Don't they all believe the lore is false? Interesting despite that. I'd be all over it.

sucks because I collect pretty much anything "reaper-esque" since the motorcycle club I belonged to had a reaper for our flag, and I tattooed it on me.

Considering what FP has done previously with sculpting plastic, I think they could have done much better with the scythe design. The sword for Shadow Commander looks fine to me and it's by no means an elaborately sculpted accessory.

Simply choosing a less blocky shape for those "teeth" on the blade would significantly improve the look of the scythe to me. I'm not expecting a sharp edge or pointy tip or anything of the sort for the scythe blade, just something that doesn't look like it was made with extreme child safety laws in mind.

Best to wonder if Protector will support the Henkei or Classics release.

Since part of the spoiler shows through the trailer, it can't match both. Either the flames will be orange, like Classics Roddy, or gold chrome, like Henkei Roddy.

Actually, I suppose the same could be said of this version as well.

Y'know, the more I look at it, the more I'm convinced it's less serrated edge and more a "chain scythe". The two exhausts on the back of it may have something to do with that(or I've been playing too much 40K).

That's a good point and the first thing I thought of when looking at the line art was that the weapon looked like a combination of a scythe and chainsaw. However, it still looks a bit cartoonish with the shape of those teeth. I think that a more acute triangular shape would look better for a more menacing looking weapon.

Seibertron.com sponsor TFSource has revealed new details of the recently announced Fansproject Shadow Scyther, the first repaint of the Protector armor. The limited edition set is intended for 2008 BotCon Shattered Glass Rodimus but fits all versions of the figure. In addition to the repainted trailer/armor included with the standard Protector release, this set also included several bonus features: an Evil Face (new head sculpt), a Chain Sword, and a Scythe Attachment! According to their description, the set is 3 times more complex that the City Commander armor and will be an exclusive to TFSource in North America. It seems odd to me as well. The news about this special version of Protector has come out more rapidly than the news for the normal Protector set. It seems like jumping the gun to me.

I'd love to order this but I don't have Wildrider or SG Rodimus...so that means I'm saving $100+. I can't wait to see more information about the normal Protector set, especially pre-order availability. If the Shadow Scyther set is due for a December 2010 release date that I'm assuming that Protector will not be released any later than December 2010.

I do like this set, but it's not worth 300-400 dollars to me to get this armor and the figure to go with it. To me, that money would be better spent trying to track down a Walmart Classics Devastator if the Crossfire 3 is a Devastator upgrade. I'd still have enough left over to buy the regular Protector set and maybe even the CF-03 limbs/appendages too.

I like the fact that FP is offering a Protector variant for those who have SG Rodimus and/or Gentei Wildrider. It's unfortunate that those two Rodimus repaints are much more scarce and expensive than Universe Nemesis Prime, which I'm still finding for $40 on the aftermarket.

However, I do find it odd that the Shadow Scyther version is getting more of a push than the normal Protector set at this time.

It would be very cool if Crossfire 3 turns out to be an upgrade set for Buildron/Constructicon Maximus/Classics Devastator. It does seem likely as the first two Crossfire sets are for the SL/Energon combiner figures. If such an upgrade set is made, I hope the initial set is in the Classics Devastator colours as that's the only variation I have of the mold.

Unfortunately I think it was an exclusive for TFSource in North America and Robot Kingdom for Japan. I think the only other option is to pay crazy prices on ebay.

With the prices skyrocketing on SG Roddy and Wildrider (repaint or HotRod) one would expect a 3rd party or a KO company to do these molds in either dark gray or black so people who missed out can buy this. And IF this set will be in black and purple (im guessing) it wont look right with Henkei or classics HotRod...

have a look at the sideburn wearing shadowscyther mock up I did. The bot mode looks pretty good, but the alt mode would look a little off. Having discussed this with some of the guys at TFW, that would be the case for any classics rodimus mold figure in the armour!
