We know distribution can be unpredictable, but at least we now see that the US is getting the final wave of 2023's Studio Series line at brick and mortar retail, as well as online. We've had reports that the following have been found in Target stores across the US:

- Deluxe wave including SS-104 ROTB Nightbird and SS-105 ROTB Mirage
- Leader class Studio Series SS-106 ROTB Optimus Primal
- Voyager class Studio Series SS 86-23 Ratchet (who is packed with WFC Optimus Prime)

And of course, this goes with the news of the core class figures being found the other day.

We have video reviews for some of these toys below if you are interested:

I was looking forward to have a closer look at SS Mirage as He has a really cool alt mode but I'm a bit deluded: the slots between the panels are too wide and evident, also becuase the car painting is bright and clear, so the Carrera looks like a patchwork; the bot mode looks great but the doors on the sides of the hips are a bit bulky.

A good figure, anyway: I'm gonna buy it

If they had given 86 SS Ratchet non-transparent plastic, I might have picked it up. But having the transparent plastic as such a significant part of his construction, as they did with SS 86 Ironhide, leads me to pass this one by unless it's on clearance discount in the future. I mean, I'm Death - but that weak plastic even scares me!

Guess I'll be sneaking out at lunch to see if I can find Ratchet.

I've missed the previous releases, will be nice to finally get one for my collection.

Not personally interested in this guy, but if concept art characters from the movies culminates in characters like ROTF Springer getting Studio Series figures, that’d be cool!

I would prefer getting our on-screen cast finished first though. Give us Que, Hatchet, Frenzy, Devcon, and the huge roster of missing characters from AOE/TLK!

But here’s another shot.

Well, since he never appeared anywhere, Mega Tank is still a "valid" design. And a better one.

I finally got SS Cheetor today from Amazon, through a sale. The figure is average. And I was waiting on it to do my top 5 Cheetor toys list but it's gonna be hard because none stand out, not even the MP. All are ok, but not great. Number 1 might go to the transmetal and number 2 might go to the Universe/Nightslash BM version. For an amazing and well loved character, he hasn't gotten many great toys.

I thought the mainline deluxe from ROTB was fantastic.

I bought that Cheetor at full price and I regretted not waiting for a sale.
That ROTB Cheetor is BELOW average because for some effing reasons, he's a BRICK in beast mode. How the F such a thing could happen?

IMO, he's barely different than the Kingdom and the fact that the cheetah is wearing trousers make him look stupid... At least, worth owning for that alone!

It definitely feels like this brand team doesn't like Bayverse all that much, with how much Studio Series has been diluted with other stuff over the last couple of years. 1986 was fair enough, but since then we've had video games thrown in there and now they're dipping into concept designs for characters who aren't in the films, it's like they're jumping on any possible reason to not make Bayverse characters. It's a shame too, because there are so many good Bay designs that are long overdue new toys, like Que, Onslaught and Frenzy.
Personally I have no interest in the Beewun designs so this Megatron is a very easy pass for me, but I know it will most likely be a massively popular toy once it's out.

You’ve gotten over 80 bayverse figures in studio series and most of the exclusives have been bay stuff. It’s literally up to 109 figures and that’s not including SS86 And WFC. This line is becoming one of the longer running ones that’s happened. What you call diluted others would say expanded. It’s always a fun day when a studio series figure gets revealed or leaked and it’s “it’s not a bayverse figure. They just don’t care about those fans” with walls of them behind them or at home

Yeah, it's not that Hasbro has a dislike for the Bay movies, it's that they're running out of characters from those movies that they think people will want to buy. The reason they've been so light on AOE and TLK characters is because their marketing research has told them that toys of characters from those two movies don't sell very well compared to those from the first trilogy.

I'll probably get Megatron, hope he actually looks good.

Still sad we are now getting a concept Megatron before a 2nd Leader Dinobot. And still no Que. And still no Frenzy. And still now TLK crew.

Indeed, at the very least we're getting Mohawk and a new Drift next year. I'm still holding out hope that the characters you mentioned will happen eventually, but with every set of leaks I get more worried that the Bayverse stuff will stop before we do get them.
Even if new Bayverse toys aren't being planned, some more re-issues of older Studio Series toys in Buzzworthy Bumblebee or elsewhere would be enough to whet my appetite at least for a while. I'm still praying for an Ironhide with his DOTM weapons.

Perhaps the designs that are left from the bay films are of characters that might be rather hard to make.

Just finished my latest project, Rescue Ratchet!

I have to admit I'm generally not a huge fan of G1 colors on movie bots, but I wanted to try adapting the G1 color pallette in a way that suits the movie design a bit more. It was a fun one to work on!

That looks better than some official color schemes. Love the little "fake" lifeline detail in the inner calves.

It's always really hard to make clean stripes on the vehicle without making them look thick with bumps. That's the flaw of doing it with a paintbrush. Masking tape and pray paint can be effective, but that still remains a challenge. I failed that often. The best would be a sticker sheet. The ultimate, a water decals sheet.

I would really love to have a printer that is specialised in making high quality stickers for models with the paper and ink to match. And the machine would be able to cut them too. As in, making your own Reprolabels at home. Man, this would make customising so much easier!

Hasbro will soon be unveiling the first wave of 2024's Studio Series figures. There was a big question mark as to what the MV 6 Leader Megatron listing referred to. Was this a mistake for a SS 86 listing or was it referring to what Megatron would have looked like in the Bumblebee movie (MV 6). Well turns out it's the latter with our first image at this Megstron which looks like the CG model we saw used in some ROTB box art. This will be a leader class figure and leaders on the web have said this toy should be a triple changer of sorts with two cybertronian vehicle modes. The alt modes have not been leaked yet and the triple changing aspect is still just a rumour.

Megatron wasn't in the Bee movie at all. He was only in an early draft on Cybertron, before not showing up at all. He only appeared in a Bee movie pack in comic frozen ala the 2007 movie.

Well if they are doing conceptual characters, I guess there's a possibility of RotB Transit? I just watched the deleted scene on the Blu Ray for the first time last night. It's a shame that was cut from the film.

I agree, I hope Transit ends up getting a toy.

Although, once again, I am annoyed we are getting concept characters before Que or a 2nd Dinobot.

With Studio Series Nightbird out now, fans can compare it to the previously released mainline Rise of the Beasts Nightbird toy. And we have images for you below. The Studio Series version is the smaller of the two, and the one with the larger backpack. However, it has a more accurate car mode, colours, headsculpt and chest. So it's give and take here, depending on your taste. But at least we have options, so let us know which of these two options you prefer for your collection. That is why I dont collect movie figures. Not enough, if any, cooperation between the CGI guys and toy designers. I love Nightbird's car mode as the Skyline is one of my fav cars, but that bot mode, damn.

I still do not understand how they dropped the ball so badly on Mirage and Nightbird. Nightbird literally had wings to help with kibble, and they basically did nothing with it.

I'm cautiously optimistic. They've messed over the leader figures pretty badly lately, making them glorified voyagers with a few badly-planned accessories tossed in to fool customers into thinking they're not being gypped. If they make it a decent G1 tribute, it could be good. But I keep asking myself - are there any Triple changers has Hasbro really done well lately...?

I like Galaxy Shuttle.

And don't know if this is too far back, but I feel Snap Dragon was well executed.

Doesn't really matter much here though, the alt modes for this Megatron are made up, it will probably be the same base vehicle but it having two modes (like land and air mode).

Just upgraded my Blackout and Scorponok, adding the hands from my junker Grindor and reworking my paint in robot mode!

The updated hands make this figure so much better, I was hoping the recent Decepticon 4-pack Blackout would include them. Kind of along that same vein, if we were to get a newly released figure using an old mold, what updates would you like to see? For example, if we get a Desert Brawl from DOTM, I hope they can do something about the tank turret hanging out in SS Brawl's robot mode. I'd be ok if it was detachable!

Gypped…wow. We’re not being “gypped” with the current leaders. And by current I mean the last 5 years because that’s how long it’s been. The leader class since WFC literally weighs the same as the visibly hallowed out leaders of the prime wars. Ya know, the figures that we’re lucky if they had stuff like wrist and waist swivels and hallowed out in the back. They are still using the same amount of mold sheets on leaders but they are focused on scale with others and on an engineering level. Instead of getting a figure thats tall and core class level articulation you’re getting a solid figure with a bunch of articulation and accessories you apparently don’t care for which that’s on you that’s not on the figures. Sorry they’re not asking you what you personally want but to be real, hasbro should never listen to fans that have your mentality because you really don’t deserve 5 seconds of their time.

However considering it’s 2023 and you’re complaining about this I imagine many people have explained this many times and you just don’t care or wanna listen.

I'll write this here since it's a Studio Series figure as well as being Buzzworthy:

Man, that SS102 Prime toy might probably be the most hubub made for such a mid toy. Maybe it's time to revise my most overrated Transformers list. That alt mode is rough and I don't see any advantage to having the legs get that transformation when it would have looked better if they remained the same in alt mode (like other more basic optimus toys). Plus they have the alt mode kibble on his shoulders to represent the guards but it turns out to be fake kibble that doesn't end up in alt mode, leaving that mode even more innacurate. The decisions on this toy are baffling.

Also, with hasbro so enamored with their new way of having Optimus' gas tanks flip out in alt mode and then receed back into his things in robot mode, they should really add a locking mechanic to it.

Also, with hasbro so enamored with their new way of having Optimus' gas tanks flip out in alt mode and then receed back into his things in robot mode, they should really add a locking mechanic to it.

As bad as the truck mode was, at least both modes look accurate enough like they were seen in the movie.

I'm going Yolopark's AMK all the way for ROTB. It was a mistake to start design of the SS figures BEFORE the movie's out. The movie's "due to Covid" etc. delay is no excuse. Hasbro can come up with various mainline/gimmick figures to coincide with the movie's premiere, and leave the SS's 2022-2023 releases for the many, many Bay/Knight bots that fans are still waiting for. Hasbro was just painting themselves into a corner to have the ROTB mainline & SS figures "one year apart" and have many of the SS figures looking NOTHING like they were seen in the movie.

Seeing as we know from JtPrime's leaks that a new TLK Drift is on the way, I decided to buy a Crosshairs this week, and he arrived today. I like him a lot more than I thought I would, the transformation is a bit of a pain, but the car mode is excellent, and kibble and shell-forming issues aside the robot mode is pretty nice too. He's a much darker shade of green than he appears in the official images, not only does he stand out on the shelf but his green really compliments the red and blue on Optimus and the yellow on Bumblebee.
Drift, Mohawk, and maybe 1986 Springer are the only Studio Series toys I plan on buying next year, unless of course Hasbro pulls a blinder and reveals something amazing that hasn't been leaked yet.

Guys, clearly that is not Megatron. That is MegaMIND using a Megatron disguise. The blue is what it looks like without the silver that is used initially to fool everyone in thinking he's around and not on Earth MIA.

I'd like to share something with you all I've spent a long time working on with a whole team of Bay fans!

BTB Welcome.jpg

This is a fan-run movement campaigning for the release of Studio Series figures for the remainder of characters from Michael Bay's Transformers films!

Why are we doing this?

In 2018, the Transformers Studio Series toyline kicked off, delivering unbelievably accurate representations of both fan-favorite and lesser known characters from the live-action films. With incredible figures such as Bumblebee, Blackout, Jetfire, Ironhide and even Devastator, it was hard to argue against Studio Series being the ultimate line for fans of the live action Transformers movies.

After its first three years, Studio Series began to expand beyond the live action films and into other media, including the 1986 animated movie and War for Cybertron video games. While it has been great to see characters from these series receive the same screen-accurate treatment, it has also come with a significant reduction in the presence of characters from the Michael Bay films in the line, bringing a halt to the incredible progress made across Studio Series’ first three years.

Since Studio Series’ mission statement has always been to build the ultimate cast of Transformers characters, and there still remains a significant roster of both fan-favorite and lesser known characters from the Michael Bay films, we the fans are kicking off the #BacktoBaysics campaign to respectfully ask that the Studio Series line give renewed attention to the movies that started it all, and more steadily deliver the remaining cast of characters, including Que, Hound, the Dinobots, TLK Barricade, and more.

#BackToBaysics will share content across numerous platforms to recognize the many heavily-anticipated Bayverse characters yet to join the Studio Series lineup. By shedding light on these characters of all shapes and sizes that all have their fans, we hope to demonstrate the strong demand that exists for their addition to Studio Series.

We have a team running the central operation, but this won't work without you!

How can you help?

Discuss what Bay characters you most want to see in Studio Series' future, what scenes you'd like to complete, and how you'd like those figures to appear! This campaign stretches beyond TFW, so be sure to share your thoughts anywhere you post with #BacktoBaysics!

IMPORTANT CLARIFICATION:

It is not the goal of this campaign to diminish any of the existing films/continuities or sublines currently in Studio Series. Our focus is instead on balancing the number of existing continuities already in Studio Series to see more of our remaining Bayverse cast each year.

With that out of the way, here's our list of remaining Bayverse characters that can be covered in Studio Series! We tried to focus on characters that appeared on screen and what we felt would be realistic for Studio Series to cover. If you're interested in characters that aren't mentioned here but were in the Bay movies, we'd love to hear about them!
