Thanks to Japanese sites covering the Shibuoka event - in this case Figsoku and AmiAmi.net - which has brought us reveals of the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece MP-43 Beast Wars Megatron among others (see more here), we also have some nice images of the Studio Series line releases for Decepticons Brawl and Megatron, respectively in their 2007 live-action movie incarnation, and the Revenge of the Fallen one.

Check the images out below, taken at the display area at the event, and compare them to previously seen in-package and in hand shots here - what do you think? Are you excited for the release? Let us know in the discussion in the Energon Pub!

Brawl is growing on me. That Megatron is an absolute must.

The SS line has really rekindled my appreciation for some of the movie designs.

The Megatron is really growing me. I'm not 100% sold on Brawl (Devastator XD) but.... I think like I caved on Starscream in person... something will happen with Brawl.

I still can't bring myself to buy Ratchet though. I know folks keep saying his paint is sufficient in vehicle mode, but robot mode (and especially his face) feel so... bland.

Him and Jazz are the next ones that I'm gonna get at FULL price when they hit selves. So far I got Thundercracker, Starscream, and Grimlock. ALL paid full MSRP. It's been a while since a series made me buy everything full price. I usually wait until a sale or clearance before I buy...............

I want Jazz very muchly too but not sure I should buy him at same time as Megatron or something may happen like for example open the box to find Megatron has gotten out of his packaging and ripped Jazz in half. :O

Smyths sell Voyager Prime and Starscream in stores. And yeah £52.99 with free delivery for Grimmy was cheapest i could find.

Well I stand corrected, hmm getting to my local symths is a pain but been a while since I've physically hunted for anything. I know others aren't fond of him but I like prime.

As for these new pictures...why are they trying to make me get these toys when I want all of them but can only afford a few :BOOM:

Prime certainly has flaws but I do like it (especially after I've begun customising it somewhat). Even having got a (likely an incredibly good KO going by the price) Revenge Optimus Prime (Takara repaint of the old Battle Blades Voyager figure) this week I still like SS Prime a lot too. Revenge looks immediately more accurate (especially since it's far better painted) but there are some things it does better and some that the SS figure does better. Also I find the SS figure feels more solid and less fiddly than the Revenge figure can be. I'm glad to have both though.

And yeah I've not actually seen a Smyths shop myself and still hoping one moves into the closed Toys R Us building in Cambridge but a friend of mine I talk to about toy stuff on DeviantArt (I wish he'd get a twitter or instagram set up cos i barely use DA these days) mentioned them being in there and buying some and they are both on the Smyths website too (as is the 10th Anniversary version of the 2007 Leader Prime curiously enough). Out of the actual physical shops left in UK that sell Transformers, Smyths do seem to be among the best, if not the number one. Don't know if they'll stock Studio Leaders though.

Their website has a Studio category and also £5 off when you spend £20? That sounds too good to be true.

cheeky using a Starscream stock photo where he has the buzzsaw this version doesn't have. :O

DarkEnergon wrote:Why do I hate plain gray plastic so much?

TBH, the problem with Hasbro's grey plastic is that it isn't grey- it's mock silver. It uses a faux-metallic look that results in a very soapy, semitranslucent finish. Had TR Megatron used a proper flat grey I'd have bought it, but that mock silver was so awful I couldn't stand the sight of it.

I liked the grey on TR Megatron, except the chest grey which seemed a bit off compared to the rest of it. Which doesn't matter since I silver sharpied it anyways. Still the only G1 Megatron figure I've liked enough to have in my collection for a decent amount of time. :P

Honestly guys, nothing will be as bad as that dull as fuck "grey" plastic on Gen Power Master Optimus Primal. As long as it is an actual grey colour, I think its ok. Grey Plastic could look awesome, like on AOE Slog.

Oh yeah, that Slog looked awesome. Helps as you say it was actual grey as opposed to "Totally silver guys".

Speaking of the Movieverse Dinobots, I can't be the only one who wants redecos of SS Grimlock and whatever other Dinobots we get in sort of "fossilized/bone" colours right?

So I picked these fellas up today:

Image

Seeing Stinger in hand, I decided he wasn't a memorable enough character that I should worry about him. So glad i waited to see him in stores to make that decision.

As for these 2. My Bee is plagued with the falling off roof, and ratchet has a loose left hip. But both are pretty good in their own ways. This is my first actual properly colored Ratchet, since I only have the RotF Desert Tracker voyager. And He's good! I like him, and his size will make him go good with some recent figures. Planning to do a bot group shot eventually with figures more in scale with each other.

Bee is alright too. I won't be getting the TLK one till next month, so this is my first exposure. I like how accurate he is, and he doesn't have much kibble. He's a bit fiddly, but still alright. Alt mode is sweet.

it also struck me funny that Ratchet was the rare one. I picked up the only one of him I saw. I saw the other 3 deluxes and both voyagers at 3 different stores, but only saw a single Ratchet at Target, where I got him and Bee.

Aw, as gut-wrenching as that was, he'll definitely be among those whose snapping is undone. No way would Marvel allow their most iconic superhero to be killed off after just three movies of him still being in his rookie stage. ;)

They already ruined him in those films anyways so I wouldn't mind yet another reboot...Anyways this not a Marvel topic

ZeroWolf wrote:What's the transformation like for these guys? Is ratchet's the same as his previous deluxe versions?

Yeah Ratchet transforms basically same way as DotM mold but with a couple minor changes (like the wheels turning inwards on the shoulders to reveal more lights).

Came across this repaint on Instagram. Basically a much tidier version of what I was doing with my Ratchet figure. Very nice (though i think should have painted the crotch area silver like on the cgi renders I used for mine).

And yet, with any more than the title, you wouldn't even need to pose your query because the answer is so helpfully provided for you :)

And while we have plenty of Bumblebees, what we don't have is a bounty of 70s-Camaro Bees. Which personally, is the reason this guy is so tempting to me. If he was any less than 35 insane dollars I'd already have him by this point, honestly...

Singaporeans are in luck this time with the Studio Series wave 2 voyagers being found at Toysrus. Two singaporean fans, lake88 and darkavenger, reported finding Brawl and Megatron on their local sightings board at TFW2005. It seems they were found simultaneously across the island nation at different Toysrus stores like the Paragon and Vivo locations.

You can see just how much bigger one is to the other in the way Megatron really fills every inch of that box. This being the first global sighting it is impossible to know how much time it will take for these to reach the west and from past experience, it could be in two days or two months from today. These are expected end of June, early July, according to the seasonal Hasbro schedule.

Will you all be getting both of these fully new molds? Let us know!

Waiting for that Megatron to come over here so I can buy another mainline figure at full price.

Seriously, it's been a while since I bought so much without waiting for any sale. Especially movie figures that are marked up.

So having messed with Ratchet and Bee more, I feel slightly let down.

Ratchet is good, don't get me wrong, but I think his voyager figure from movie 1 is still the better Ratchet. It feels an appropriate size, has a good sized alt mode, and the transformation is fun. The SS guy really needed to be voyager scaled, he is too small.

And Bee, well, I'm sort of let down. The transformation is actually kinda annoying, and while the alt mode and robot mode are good, the getting there isn't really any good to me, It feels overcomplicated, too many small parts and parts running into each other. It is not swish at all. He also is definitely tiny to go with the overcomplicated, and his roof keeps snapping off in bot mode, I cannot pick that figure up without it coming off. And it runs into his wings, so I can't position his wings that well either.

It's kind of a shame that the deluxes are lackluster here, I had hopes for both, and Grimlock and Thundercracker kill them both in every single regard

Wouldn't a Voyager rachet be too big though? It would have to be a fairly small Voyager to match the scale they are going for.

Yeah, SS Ratchet is way better than 2007 Voyager Ratchet (who is definitely far too large to fit in with this lot or alongside any voyager Optimus Prime and certainly with SS Starscream) The 2007 toy was fun for the time but I find it far too blocky in the legs and inaccurate these days.

Not sure how Bumblebee is complicated. Only issue I have is the getting the hood in place in both modes. I still haven't quite figured out if there's an easier way but then I still haven't even looked at the instructions so it can't be that complicated a figure to even do. So yeah other than the hood I find him pretty easy to transform back and forth. Even showed a video a couple weeks ago how I added a bit of polish to the roof joint and then shook the figure and it didn't come off at all. I've no problems with that.

I'm still hoping there's a new Ironhide coming eventually. ALl his previous voyager toys have stupidly annoying fiddly things going on with the chest/shoulders and I had more fun with the 2010 Deluxe so like Ratchet I hope a new Ironhide would be based on that but inproved (less arm kibble though I like how the cannons go there) and slightly enlargened and paint it up like the Movie The Best version.

In the meatime, gimme that Megatron.

Even though I love my 2007 voyager Ratchet, so much that it's the only one I kept, it's still WAY too big to be in scale with anything. Maybe leader ROTF Optimus.

SS Ratchet should have been a smaller voyager like SS Optimus.

I would prefer a small voyager Ratchet to a tall skinny deluxe Ratchet. I was disappointed to learn that my stores are all going with the $20 and $30 for the classes, whereas with TLK they were $17 and $26. I would pay $10 more for Ratchet to be a bit more complex with a larger alt mode that shrinks down into robot mode.

the voyager Ratchet really fit the movie 1 and 2 aesthetic, and I liked his blockiness, even if movie Ratchet is more skinny in the legs. The voyager is more fun to transform too.

Bumblebee is extremely fiddly, especially in the legs. It's really annoying that there are several parts you need to keep forcing out of the way for the clearance to transform. His hood is also an issue cause it clamps on so tight in alt mode I was legitimately afraid I was about to break him when I finally got it loose going back to bot mode. and as I said, he is just a bit too tiny. He is a full head and a half shorter than Evac, and Evac is supposed to be smaller cause he's a frikkin Orlando Studios ride with a boxy alt mode.

I was hoping for more with both.
william-james88 wrote:Dmax, did you get your Hammer Bee yet? How does it compare to this SS one for you?

No, I don't get him for at least another month.

And I will look forward to an MPM Ratchet.

and I don't particularly care for the "robot mode" scale they are going with. It's made Bee too small, Ratchet the wrong size class (in my opinion), and Optimus too small. And it's gonna make Jazz a slightly enlarged Legends class figure basically. I wish they would have done some tweaking, simplified some things to make the figures larger instead of more complex, and made the price point more worth it. Grimlock was worth it, Bee and Ratchet were not. Those 2 are in the $15 deluxe, not a $20.

I was just thinking the other day when looking at the PotP Voyager section of the shelf at Walmart filled with SS Voyagers that they really should go back to Mega class for movie figures. Voyager was never a great name for the size class and is such a strange throwback to the Unicron Trilogy that has since lost all meaning. If Hasbro is still so attached to it then it should stay with Generations and Generations only and use different classes for the Movie line, especially now where SS sizes vary wildly within each class.

Got my Grimlock. Um. Feeling a bit meh about him to be honest. Doesn't feel like I got my £52.99's worth. Robot mode is nice but I wish he had his big weapon the voyager did. Yeah I'm gonna get that upgrade kit anyways but still.

Dinosaur mode I'm confused with. I transformed it without instructions...and thought I did it wrong.. so I checked the instructions...and I seem to have done it all right from what I can see. I don't agree with the opinion that the robot arm is hidden in the chest area of the dino at all. It's blatantly there in sculpt, only slightly hiding just because of the colour scheme. The tail section confuses me most. Does none of it peg into place? And the front skirty bit of the robot mode just hangs diagonally down between the legs? Would be nice if it could fold up at the sides and cover some more of the folded up robot arm.

This is my fifth Studio Series figure but the first that I feel genuine disappointment with. Maybe I just believed the hype far too much. The detail in the sculpt is fantastic and the robot mode certainly is fun but I do feel like I paid far too much for it in general and am gonna have to pay more to improve it.

These are pretty much my feelings on Grimlock too. I don't know if I can honestly say he's worth the $80 I put down on him, though he is still a good toy it's just a lot of money to pay for something with so many issues.

At the same time though, he's been my go-to desk toy for the last week or so. I guess I'm just having fun transforming him back and forth, even if one of those end-points is... disappointing.

I only spent fifty on Grimlock, and feel like I overpaid.

Yeah he's gonna stay on my desk a lil while so I can try warming up to him. I don't really like the transformation too much though. Mainly cos of that whole tail section and having to punch his own throat out. I've put him back into robot mode and yeah I like him much more this way (though I do wish the dino toes could have folded inwards or something cos they're too noticable to me sticking out of his heels.

I do find it rather amusing having him in dino mode but leaving the fake head unseperated so it's like he's got another head coming out of his lower back. I dunno why.

But yeah very much looking forward to the DNA Design upgrade kit to fix at least some my issues with it. The robot mode does still look pretty darn awesome and imposing and beautifully detailed. I just wish I'd got it cheaper. I didn't feel that way about my other Studio purchases which I love muchly.

I don't own Grimlock yet, but I can't imagine he'll be a bigger disappointment than Nitro was. >:oP

Does look neat having these three knight-like TFs together... even though Grimlock is still technically undersized. :P

Ok so Grimlock would actually be gigantic compared to Kratos if real scale but I still think this looks cool. :P

Ok I'm done for the day. Stuff to do. And a busy dress/tech rehearsal in the evening. Have fun, folks. :)

Something I've been mulling over as I look at Studio BB...

Have they locked themselves into impossible designs or at least problematic ones with the cars being so small?

Looking at the significant car character in the films, you have:

Jazz
Barricade
Sideways (kind of...)
Sideswipe
Skids and Mudflap
Dino
Jolt (kind of)
Crosshairs
Drift
Lockdown

I feel like characters like Mudflap, Crosshairs, and Barricade are going to need more than this size can deliver.

I hope I'm wrong. It would be fun to be proven wrong.

I guess seeing will be believing. (and I do realize Jazz and Lockdown are on their way)

Disagree. It's bland, stubby, doesn't look right, and too many corners cut on design.

I am glad so many like it, however, as I was able to sell mine on eBay for a profit.
