Thanks to Seibertronian Sabrblade, we have news that Mark Maher with the Hasbro Transformers team has posted some new designer notes, this time for the newly last week revealed Leader Class Galaxy Shuttle!
Galaxy Shuttle is a new head retool and repaint of Siege Leader Astrotrain, providing an update to a Victory character in preparation for the arrival of Haslab Star Saber. Mark makes note of the discovery of the alternate head, as he didn't work on Astrotrain originally, and details a little game he plays with the gray model prototypes and identifying the extra pretooled head. He also makes note that he does not know the stock situation on Galaxy Shuttle, as he is aware of the rapid pace at which he sold out last week.
Check out the designer notes and pictures below, and let us know what you think in the comments section below!
Welcome Velocitron Speedia 500’s Leader GALAXY SHUTTLE. Now I know what some of you are going to say, he should be alot larger as he appears on the Transformers animated Victory series. The G1 toy did have a third mode but it wasn’t a sweet choochoo train. Well all aboard the crazy train because when I found this alt head in the mold from Siege Astrotrain I started spinning in my computer chair yellin “Wooooo”!!! Full blown Ric Flair strutting around my room!!
One of my favorite things when I was a Master Model Artist for Transformers was when I recieved the first shot of the grey model prototypes shipped in. Most of the time, the extra alt head came in a seperate small baggy unidentified. I used to try and guess what character it was going to become and it soon turned into my favorite lil game!
So, I didn’t get to work on this design for Astrotrain, but I have a special love for the bot, especially the G1 white version of the toy, def one of my favs as a wee young lad. As I was searching through the mold I stumbled on these images of Galaxies unused head sculpt and I just couldn’t resist.
So, I did screw on Astrotrain’s head just to take a gander, might have to get back on my custom game and do up a special one for the shelf.
Now I know some of yall didn’t get to buy this stylish dude, sold out on the Pulse real quick. I don’t have the info on anymore stock or release info either, so hang in there I unfortunately don’t know who from TT designed this awesome figure either. Sorry! They did a fantastic job though, because this toy rules! Lots of fun! I do wonder if the designer that drew the sculpt for the launch pad realized it could be painted as a duel purpose helicopter pad
Well this dude was a blast…off! (oof dad joke)

Really? Seems a bit unnecessary, but o.k.

If this had something that sorted the shuttles back mess out, even if just kind of a tray/cargo box to maybe place a micromaster as a nod to the original toy it might have been better.

Ah that makes sense, thanks D-Max. Personally this is a buy for me as I didn't really have any problems with Astro (I think to really go all in with Astro, you need him at a bigger price point, but would people really by happy with Commander class astro if they were still constrained to g1 bot scale?)
Maybe it's time let astro be the giant bot he should have been ij the cartoon...like he is in IDW ver 2.0 and cyberverse.

I would have no problem with a Commander Astrotrain in Legacy if he was a proper triplechanger with all 3 modes correct and no unnecessary crap like the caboose/launch pad.ZeroWolf wrote:D-Maximal_Primal wrote:Overcracker wrote:ZeroWolf wrote:Is it just a weird thing with the photos where it blurs Galaxy Shuttle chest?

The black and gold deco pops, and the metallic turquoise on the head and guns really bring everything together nicely. While I'm not sure if I'm all in on G2 Stunticons, Shadow Strip really makes me excited for what's coming.

Thinking on it, despite matching alt modes, it probably would have cost too much to retool the mold as to remove the combiner peg (for us collectors, an additional limb would be welcomed, for kids probably not as much given the last retail releases of compatible toys was back in 2018). That and this isn't the first time that hasbro have given us crasher from Mirage (I still love the 08 Walmart exclusive Fracture), so they might have figured "let's go with tradition!"*
But yeah, I reckon budget had a part to play with Crasher here. I'm still wanting her.
* - not saying that's what happened, but I could have easily seen that being part of the process, seeing what was done before.

If you were thinking about using Shadow Strip as the other arm you'd be wrong, dead wrong. The ports on the Menasor arms are different on each side.

I'm the opposite. I thought Astrotrain was a mess in both alt modes, but Galaxy Shuttle can get away with it because he was never intended to be a NASA shuttle to begin with and if he wants to also turn into a weird two tone train that runs on four rails that's fine too, maybe those are a thing on some planet.

Sabrblade wrote:And, apparently, retooling this Astrotrain mold into Galaxy Shuttle wasn't a recent idea. Rather, the Galaxy Shuttle headsculpt was a pretool built into the mold back when it was first made several years ago. It's only surfacing now because of the alternate pretooled head having been discovered by the current Hasbro team after all this time.
That would explain the robot mode inaccuracies

I mostly agree with this. I liked Astrotrain, and in many ways I like the Galaxy Shuttle more. I like the colors and head sculpt on him more.
I don't mind the transformation inaccuracies either, I am used to those by now, and he still looks good and quite frankly I am not sure how else we could get this opportunity to get him

That Botcon Spark was bought from a DEAD online store. I had to contact the owner directly.
I once had the G1 originals but I hated how they felt in hand. Maybe those were KOs? I also got MP Inferno once but that's too big and 5he others were too expensive.
So, a Pure Generations collection is more manageable and affordable. Plus, those are a tons of fun to play with.
Oh, and Sabrblade, you got them all.
If they release more Grapples/Infernos, both Kingdom/ER or Classics, I'll get them.

Its a nice looking set either way. Is there any other decos (other then shattered glass versions) could they do with the current Inferno/grapple molds?

Not me, though. I'd rather a Cybertron-accurate Mudflap (even if that means tracking down the original, which I currently do not own).

I unboxed and transformed my Velocitron Burnout, I found her gun and axe wrapped in brown paper. I transformed her (you really have to know) in bot mode and gave her both her gun and axe. Then the packaging was thrown into the recycling bin.
Tuesday:
Just a normal day. It was garbage day in the morning but the recycling box wasn't full enough to dump into the recycling bin of my apartment building outside.
Wednesday: My recycling carboard box is too full so now I bring it back downstairs, outside, and dump the whole thing into our collective recycling bin.
Tuesday, meaning today: Play vidia, pet the cats, do random things. Then I get the idea to put both my Legacy Skids and Velocitron Burnout on display along my Skids Masterpieces. I notice that Legacy Skids have an "extra gun". The "twin gun". Wait... Why Burnout only came with ONE gun? I double check on Google... She usually come with the same weapons as Skids, meaning TWO guns and an axe.
Fuk.
Fuk fuk fuk fuk fuk...
It's night.
With my glorious "People of Walmart" look wearing only a bathrobe and security boots, I hurry downstairs to dive into our building's recycling bin. I have to dig through other's people's trash to get back to my own cardboard box-o-crap. Thank God the one who used to "recycle" used diapers no longer do so...
Found my box! Now, the archeology dig begin. I carefully inspect every single item, especially that soft brown paper...
Something hard in one crumpled brown paper thing...
IT'S THE MISSING GUN!
Go back home upstairs, and now my Burnout is complete!
TlDr; Triple, quadruple check those brown papers bundles inside your latest Transformers boxes!

The 5h8bgs are either well hidden in the brown wrappers, or they are loosely tied by those paper ties.
Two extremes that those "environmentally safe" packaging bring...

o.supreme wrote:Since, as these have been well established are marketed towards kids, I wonder how many are unknowingly throwing away accessories because of this. I've not made the mistake yet because I think twice and scour the packaging. But I did loose a couple trading cards in Kindgdom releases because of not checking. No big loss, but yeah it's irritating.
I would suspect many. But I also suspect it doesn't matter too much as accessories on kids toys tend to be lost eventually anyways. In a ven diagram between "accessory would be lost anyways" and "accessory thrown out by mistake", there would be mainly an overlapped circle.
I still don't like it though. I do think a better idea would be to tie them to the underside of the inner box, kinda like what they did with Kingdom toys. Like that even if someone cuts the ties maleciously, there would still be no access to the accessory until the box is fully opened.

As we learn yesterday, while Hasbro can advise Walmart on case distribution, Walmart has the final say. Which in turn just makes it odd that they promote a toy that they themselves shortpacked. It could of course just be a coincidence since Walmart is huge and the person making the catalogue probably has 0 knowledge of the case assortment or the distribution issues.
