Transformers News: Re: BotCon 2014 (Pasadena, CA) Discussion: Toys and Events

DERRICK J. WYATT draws stuff. And everything he draws turns to gold! From his early work on iMucha Lucha! to his later work on Teen Titans, it wasn’t until Transformers Animated though that mankind truly understood what a genius it had on its hands! Running for three seasons, the Transformers Animated cartoon was the basis for a very popular toy line, an IDW comic series, a plethora of fan art and the most popular BotCon story ever: The Stunti-Con Job!

Though Derrick is not currently working on Transformers, having instead devoted all of his time to some guy named Ben and his Omniverse, he wants his fans from around the world to know that if The Transformers ever come calling again, he will take that call! (Even if it is just those guys over at the Transformers Collectors' Club offering to let him do Animated G2 Breakdown or an Animated Rosanna.)

So make sure to come see Derrick at BotCon 2014. It will be an opportunity of a lifetime! He will be happy to sign almost anything you bring him.

Transformers News: Re: BotCon 2014 (Pasadena, CA) Discussion: Toys and Events

MARTY ISENBERG has written and/or story edited literally hundreds of scripts for animated series far too numerous to mention. But he suspects you only care about the ones with Transformers in the title, so here we go: He’s probably best known among this crowd for developing, writing and story editing three seasons of Transformers Animated for Cartoon Network and Hasbro (and NOT writing and story editing a fourth – grr…), as well writing the Transformers Animated video game for Nintendo DS and six issues of the Transformers Animated: The Arrival comic (and its one-shot Botcon-exclusive sequel “The Stunti-Con Job”). But he also co-developed, co-wrote and co-story edited the fan-polarizing Beast Machines for Mainframe, Hasbro and Fox Kids Network. And, more recently, wrote for scripts Transformers Prime and Rescue Bots for Hasbro Studios and the Hub network. Somehow he’s managed to squeeze in some non-Transformers projects, including Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. and Ultimate Spider-Man for Marvel Animation Studios and Disney XD; Kaijudo and G.I. Joe Renegades for Hasbro Studios and The Hub; Ben 10 (in its various incarnations) for Cartoon Network; and Danny Phantom for Nickelodeon.

Originally from Pompton Lakes, New Jersey, Marty lives in Southern California with his wife and two daughters.

Guess we can expect another Animated legacy panel. Sounds good to me. Hopefully another chance to watch all of the shorts, including the unreleased ones.

So Axor is not the supposed rogue, instead he's a full-on crew member? And that Autobot Bounty Hunter just screams Devcon. :-?

Devcon... or Impactor? Sounds more like the latter, to me.

So the next question is: will Axor be one of the upcoming figures, or will he just make an appearance like Octane did in past year's Termination?

This is another installment from Star Seeker Saboteur Tornado's personal Facebook page. In these BotCon promotional pieces, we get pieces that lead up to the story behind this year's BotCon theme. Tornado is aboard the Tidal Wave, and writes about his fellow crew members' interactions and what they've been up to. Find the full text here and if you enjoy it, are looking forward to BotCon, or would just like to hear more from Decepticon Saboteur Tornado, head over and give his Facebook page a like.

Tell us if you're excited about BotCon and/or this theme in the Energon Pub!

He's not the only fleshling among Cannonball's crew. This goblin/elf-looking guy, named Squirm, is also a crew member:

I hope just an appearance. An Axor update already happened, I don't need another one - would much rather have a different character.

The official BotCon 2014 website has revealed the first Knight in this year's Pirates vs. Knight exclusive set, and it's a character many of us have been waiting on for years! Devcon is receiving his first ever figure in the form of a Generations Deluxe Scourge retool/repaint! Devcon made his initial appearance in the original G1 Transformers cartoon episode The Gambler, as an Autobot bounty hunter. Check out the images mirrored below:

This is more like what I expect to get from the Club and BotCon. Not Ferak and not a Cannonball update to a toy from 9 years ago that was a filler character. Devcon was long overdue and this looks better than Devcon from the Energon Slugslinger mold. Hopefully this leads to a proper closer-to-show-accuracy Devcon from Hasbro at some point but in the meantime, I can't wait to put this guy next to Smokescreen at long last.

Question to all of you who squeed like fangirls over getting Devcon. Will he be staying in the BotCon set, or will he be displayed with G1 figures or at least Generations figures, since he's a very accurate representation of the character?

With only two more to go, what could they have never done before? Original characters? 2009 Landshark. Mini-Con sets? 2008 Predacons.

The only thing I could see being truly jaw dropping would be getting to use a mold before Hasbro or Takara use it for retail/announce it. Not impossible, but so improbable as to be nearly so.

I would've added doing an original mold altogether, but they've done that already, too(Vector Sigma).

hmmm...I doubt it, but there might be a reason Arcee and/or Chromia got delayed?

Sleezardo! Sleezardo! Sleezardo!

Or a 3.75" figure from a GI Joe wouldn't be too bad either. Curious to see what they reveal next.

Ooh! What if the "thing they've never done before" is the toy that's being made from an Energon mold, and it turns out to be one of the Kicker molds done up as a knight?

Like, what if they made a G1 Sari Sumdac out of it? :D

A GI Joe might be a good idea, if they're going to do one of the non-TF members of the pirate crew. I hope it's not EDC Spike or Marissa though, because then I'll have to buy the set.

Which begs the question: Do any of the G.I. Joe cons have exclusive toys, and if yes, do they retool them from regular toys? I know Hasbro has done it for SDCC's Crossover toys, but this is a little bit different, isn't it?

Hm...Since we're going with the whole Pirates Vs. Knights thing, let's consider this.

Five figure, three Star-Seekers, two Knights (Correct me if I'm wrong)

Star-Seeker - Cannonball
Star-Seeker - Ferak
Star-Seeker - (plenty to work with here)
Knight - Devcon
Knight - (not so much to work with here)

BTW is it too much to hope for another Breakdown?
