Probably a more show-accurate deco than what retail offers. Probably an extra bonus item as well.

I wouldn't get your hopes up that any of the 30 for 30 figures (or whatever they're called) will hit mass retail. The first two are SDCC exclusives, the next three (that we know of) are BBTS/online exclusives, and I'd expect that kind of trend to follow.

I certainly hope at least several of them are available for purchase in mass retail: I'd like to help celebrate thirty years of Transformers in an affordable way!

I gotta agree. A waste of a spot as far as I'm concerned. Although I am being told this version comes with the jet pack and not the dragon spinner.

Sorry man but this is LAZY. You don't include a brand new toy in this line. MAYBE if you were doing the new Metroplex as Metrotitan. They need to do something like color the re-issue Fort Max in Grand Max colors and just throw the Pretender shell in the box.

Platinum Ultra Magnus is a brand new toy, as it's a retool of Weaponizer Optimus Prime. And he's numbered 3 of 30 for this line.

Well, what are you expecting from this line then? Aside from Platinum Ultra Magnus who actually has some major work done to him, and Shockwave's Lab, all so far are just minor shiny repaints of earlier releases. Makes it easier to fill all 30 spots in a year's time I guess.

I was hoping for something that had to do with the last 30 years. The new Double Dealer re-paint should be in this line over anything I have seen so far. Honestly for the 30th line, re-paint a Bay Movie or Prime Bumblebee as Chromedome and give it a headmaster.

Or maybe some Galvatron-love?
Still, this line isn't 'lazy. It's like a line of more elaborate versions of current toys.

You're right, calling a re-colored toy of a new Magnus a 30th year line that STILL doesn't have painted wheels for FIFTY bucks isn't lazy, it's VERY lazy.

That's not being lazy, that's being cost-efficient. Magnus is one example of a blob of paint not being where you'd like it. Considering the reworking of the figure as a whole... I'll forgive the paint there. Beyond that, Metroplex has some pretty big differences in the paint department and honestly- we've only seen the exterior of this Prime. No way of knowing how much paint is or isn't on it.
Dear god- It's Schrodinger's Optimus!

"The items in The Thrilling 30's line are to celebrate not just the brand, but also to show our appreciation to the fans who made it all possible. They obviously have fine taste, and the money to show it, so we've created these items just for them."
How much do you wanna bet that's the answer they'll give?

Metroplex has some pretty big differences in the paint department? You mean the chrome face and thighs? Yeah.. Those differences are HUGE.
I'm glad a lot of this crap is exclusive so far.. Because there's not much of it that I want. I do want metroplex for the extra gun and maybe G1 predaking.. But that's about it so far. And no matter what they do to "ultimate" prime, it's an easy pass for me. The thing is way too big, it doesn't fit into the collection, and the alt mode is simply unforgivable.

Given the size of Metroplex- Yes. Those are some big differences.
And why would it matter that these are exclusives anyway? If you don't want them, well... Don't buy 'em. I don't see the problem with these toy being available somewhere specific of at the supermarket on your streetcorner if you're ignoring them anyway.

It's not nearly as bad as you're making it out to be and you're coming off a bit of a cry baby over it.
They are collectors items. From 1 right on through to 30. Collectors items can be hard to get for even seasoned collectors. If money is an issue and you want them so bad, do something to make more money. Save, budget, second job, whatever.
Welcome to Transformers.

Welcome to Transformers.
Really? Name calling? That's great.
I'm sorry, but releasing toys that should be normal in store exclusives for a line that is still currently running doesnt seem like the best way to celebrate 30 years.
Isn't saying "if you don't like it, you don't have to buy it" a ridiculous tired statement at this point..? You're right, if I don't like it, I'm not going to buy it.. But being that a couple of these things take up slots in a line of 30 figures.. Yes, I can complain that these slots could've been better utilized by giving the fans something different.
This line is definitely geared more towards the adult collector.. So why are we getting to remolds of current toys that look to be primarily meant for kids? It doesn't make any sense and it just seems like they'd rather have a few gems in the line of 30 and just fill the rest of it with repaints.
Hopefully it gets better.

If there were nothing else on the shelves at this point in time, I'd agree with you. However the Generations line is going strong. Characters like Springer, Blitzwing, Skids, Trailbreaker, Rhinox, Waspinator, Cosmos etc are all being released in stores proper. That is the right way to do a 30th line. These X of 30 figures seem thus far, to be that extra bling that, while nice to have, is in no way essential to any collector that doesn't want it. For example - SDCC Metroplex (1 of 30) is Generations Metroplex with an extra gun and a bit of chrome. SDCC Shockwave (2 of 30)'s packaging turns into a small lab with a couple extra accessories and a mini fig which (IMO) doesn't display well outside those accessories. This Optimus Prime (3 of 30) is rumored to not be any different than the mass release version, aside from the packaging. Although we've yet to confirm that.
Thus far the biggest difference is Platinum Ultra Magnus. He is the only figure we've see thus far that is completely unique to this X of 30 subline.
You're building a straw man argument against the line.

I think you're missing the goal of these 30 figures. To encompass all 30 years, they must do all of the styles that were prevalent. Of course there's going to be stuff that doesn't appeal to you personally. Besides, we've yet to see what at least 20 of these items are going to be. If you're going to be pessimistic about this sub-line (that's what it is) this early on, it's not going to get any better for you.
This line is definitely geared more towards the adult collector..
..Another reason these won't be found in stores that cater their toy aisles to children..
So why are we getting to remolds of current toys that look to be primarily meant for kids? It doesn't make any sense and it just seems like they'd rather have a few gems in the line of 30 and just fill the rest of it with repaints.
Can't say. Perhaps they needed to get the line rolling, and what better way to do that than to utilize some stuff they still have fresh. Predaking appears to be the exact release that Japan had a couple years back, and the rest thus far are WFC or Cybertron figs. As I've said, thus far I don't think we've even seen 2/3rds of the stuff that'll be coming our way.
Hopefully it gets better.
I hope so too.
I'd still rather see some of these in stores.. Buying online is a hassle.. And I'm much more comfortable when I'm able to look at something in person before I buy it.. To check for defects or paint applications.
Buying online is a hassle? Are you from the past? Yesterday, I've reserved 4 Transformers and today I ordered 3 more in the time it takes to go to the bathroom. I can understand the desire to see what it is you want to buy before you give them your money, but for the last 4 years I've done the vast majority of purchases online and I've only ever had cause to question maybe 5 figures out of the literally hundreds that have come my way.
You want them in stores because it's what's familiar for you, I understand that. But it's pretty obvious that most stores don't want to carry exclusives that cater to adults anymore, there's no profit in it. Thus you'll have to turn your attention to online offerings if you want these. Yes it's a learning curve, but it's one that all of us reading these boards have had to surmount at one point or another.
To sum up; what I've seen being offered in the stores is a much better tribute to the last 30 years of TFs than these exclusives that are available online. With the exception of Platinum Ultra Magnus; he's awesome.

We've already got Platinum Magnus in Ontario. Isn't he out on your half of the country?
Also, ordering online is the best thing since ever! Eff driving around looking for something and wasting gas and time. I order most of my stuff from RK and it's cheaper shipped to my house then it is to hunt it down.

I found it in Vancouver about a month back. He's a very fun figure.
