It will see release in early 2015, as far we currently know.
Currently, there is only an artist rendering, but this 19cm Optimus Prime will transform into the first generation PlayStation. It is slated to be announced in early 2015, so it will be a while until there are more details.
Mega Drive Megatron is due to see release in September, so we only have to wait a little while longer for him, while the wait for Optimus will be a bit longer, but he seems to be worth the wait.
And now, the images:

Oh man, yeah, Super FamiConvoy would have made so much more sense, having been the main competitor to the Mega Drive and a fun play on the two names. Such a pity.procyon wrote:So incredibly disappointed that it's not going to be Super Fami-Convoy. That was my favorite system, and more of a rival to the Mega Drive than the PSX ever was...

What's next I wonder...A game gear/game boy Soundwave with cartridge minions.
Also maybe Nintendo didn't want to license their console designs to Takara.

I'd imagine that this might be the extent of the line, if not maybe one more figure or two, since these kinds of lines really don't last that long. Take the various Label lines or the Cap Bots, for example.ZeroWolf wrote:So is this going to be a series of figures then? I may get this if I decide to pull the trigger on the megadrive Megatron. I like how they cross over my main two areas of collecting.

How much you wanna bet Nintendo's royalties were a bit on the high side or that Nintendo utterly refused?

My bet is refusal
What would of been amusing is if prime was the snes and Jetfire (or any other preferred prime power up) was the PS, then you could combine them to create the original snes CD drive that Sony was working on that led to the creation of the PlayStation :lol:
...
I'll get my coat...
(Nintendo messed up the deal by working with Panasonic instead....yeah....)

Why make a figure out of the worst performing Sega console?

Simple. Like Starscream, the Saturn tried to take on the leader and failed miserably.

So very apt it would have been then

Megatron started it by being a SEGA Mega Drive.WolfSpider1979 wrote:Funny, but I thought Soundwave / Soundblaster and Blaster / Twincast would have been a better choice for a game system. Smeg, even Jazz and/or Bumblebee would have been a better choice. I just don't see Optimus Prime as having that kind fun side: As a basketball hoop, maybe, but that's a stretch.

And that's why Super Fami-Convoy would have made so much more sense. But yeah, I bet JelZe was right, Nintendo probably wanted way too much money to make it worth Takara's time. So, just like Sony did back when they ditched Nintendo and made the first PlayStation, so too did Takara. I guess it is fitting after all...

OR the whole arcade itself.

Probably something you can do yourself? Customizers? would be pretty sick.

As for him being able to play games, remember that a lot of space in a PS1 is taken up by the CD drive- they're big, bulky things (and you can't miniaturize them because, well, they have to fit CDs) and they're fragile too. Plus, the PS1 was a lot more complicated than, say, the Mega Drive. If you managed to cram the necessary components to make this play games, the robot mode would suck. people complain about intrusive gimmicks on figures, and, well...this would be the ultimate intrusive gimmick!

procyon wrote:Raspberry Pi + ePSXe + a SDHC card to store ISOs = done. Whether you can find a spot on the toy to cram the motherboard in there (3.37″ x 2.21″ x 0.83″) and make holes for the HDMI connection is another matter, but complexity and size constraints are not an issue in this day and age. Hell, they crammed one in a Game Boy Pocket and it worked great.
Yes, but a Game Boy Pocket doesn't have to transform into a fully-poseable robot, does it?

yeah that would have worked better. i have the USB hub they made with Blaster where he turns into a toshiba laptop. and also have the Soundwave MP3 player.

But they may make a blaster vs Soundwave set down the line, maybe out of the gamegear and gameboy.

It's interesting (to me anyway) that Prime's the very first PSX model, only released in Japan, with an S-video port built in.

Genesis = Megatron
PlayStation = Optimus Prime
what i am wondering is what characters would be used for these consoles (and handhelds)
N64= ???
SNES / super Famicom = ???
HMM who would be the SNES : Starscream possibly due to coloration
NES/ Famicom=???
Game Boy family ( original, Pocket, color , advance, Advance SP, Micro, NDS, NDs lite)= ??? ( though who ever it is will have the best alternate mode)
