Son of a bitch this just made me soooooo happy. Now I'll never get to sleep!
On top of that the GF says it's perfectly acceptable to keep the MP line out in the main living room. Everything's coming up Down_Shift! (I'll still probably keep it in a nice display case in my TF room)

I have had Sideswipe and Red Alert MP's on pre-order since they were available. I still have my original G1's, and these are going to look sweet with them together.
Now don't get me wrong...If and when the make MP Sunstreaker, I will get him as well. This is an awesome TF fan year.

I don't know, i think it depends on the intricacy of the transformation. That's always how i looked at a MP figure. Accurate modes in both forms, to their original counterparts that is. Classics to me, are updates to those looks. Different, but having some obvious nods and such. I just hope he comes with some good accessories, such as a jetpack. Sideswipe NEEDS a jetpack

If it's released locally I may get it. But I'm not hurting for a Sideswipe.

if it depends on the intricacy of transformation.. then MP01 wouldn't be a masterpiece figure at all.
this is what masterpiece is.. G1 cartoon accurate alt mode - G1 accurate robot mode. .. this figure accomplishes both.
my first thought when i saw this was "how can hasbro eF this up".. hasbro should give us this, exactly the way it is here and price it at $40.. it's easy, it makes sense, people want it.
and i agree, release one of the "deluxe" masterpiece figures once a month. .. or one every 2 months. whatever. just please get them here. while i absolutely love it, it's not in the ranks of prime, hot rod, megatron, the seekers, or grimlock which all made me run for takara's release. i guess we'll see.

i don't understand when you say "it just doesn't feel like a masterpiece to me" ? .. it's not a binaltech/alternator type car because it's a Masterpiece* figure... masterpiece, as i've stated before, pretty much means, CARTOON accurate robot mode - CARTOON accurate alternate mode. both of which are achieved here.. and each mode seems to be executed to the t.
i'm sorry, but i can deal with the doors not opening, and no interior details for a screen accurate robot mode. which, from the looks of it, is what's going on with this figure.
prmlove1 wrote:Which version of Masterpiece Prime is he being compared with?
MP10. the newer one. the photo is showing that they're in proper scale with each other.
Posted by G1 Legacy on June 13th, 2012 @ 11:13pm CDT
Things I like: The scale is neat in that it can fit in MP-10 Primes trailer and appears to be in scale vehicle to vehicle comparison wise. Love the Lamborgini badge and accurate wheel rims.
Things I don't like: The price for the overall size of the toy for starters, it reminds me of how soda companies try to fool the public by keeping the same price but cutting back on the actual amount of product in the can. And whats up with the tiny face on a large head? Why are the pile drivers flat? (i.e. Rumble) I thought Sideswipes pile drivers had a sharper tip to them in the cartoon?
I won't lie...as a staunch "Geewunner"...I'll be getting atleast one of these at the very least.

I hear ya. I think it is just my expectation might be too high on this since this is first time they do masterpiece car. Think about it, they were able to design binaltech/alternator years ago and the only complaint (potential improvement) I have on binaltech/alternator is the weak robot mode. After they announced MP12, I thought (hoped) they could improve their binaltech/alternator design on robot mode then call that a masterpiece class. Now looks like I've asked for too much and that design might be impossible (or maybe not) for now. I still hope they can do that some day though.

Not sure where the "cartoon" accurate train of thought has come from, since none of the Masterpiece figures have really been all-too cartoon accurate. While the Masterpieces have paid homage to features of the character from the cartoon, I wouldn't consider any of them to be "cartoon" accurate, though MP-10, MP-11, and MP-12 could be debatable.
- MP-01 Convoy - robot mode is debatable, truck mode is not cartoon accurate
- MP-02 Ultra Magnus - you can throw this one right out the door for cartoon accuracy.
- MP-03 Starscream - not cartoon accurate in vehicle or robot mode
- MP-04 Convoy with trailer - trailer is a nice homage to the G1 toy trailer
- MP-05 Megatron - not accurate in robot mode, gun mode is a nice oversized walther P-38
- MP-06 Skywarp - getting closer with more cartoon "accurate" colors, but wouldn't consider this accurate again due to the difference with the vehicle mode and the obvious changes to the robot mode
- MP-07 Thundercracker - getting closer in robot mode, but still the wrong blue
- MP-08 Grimlock - nice cartoon references with the waiter accessories, as well as cartoon and toy color schemes for the eyes in dinosaur and robot modes. The toy has cartoon homages, but is most heavily influenced by the G1 toy. The US version has the nice crown for a comic reference.
- MP-09 Rodimus - Might be the first one to really try to go with the cartoon look, feel, and colors. Might be the biggest failure/departure/disappointment of this line so far. I take that back ... MP-05 Megatron is, but Rodimus is pretty damn close.
- MP-10 Convoy - I'll give you guys this one if you think it's cartoon accurate. Full of cartoon homages, sure, but I think we're arguing semantics on this one.
- MP-11 Starscream - far more of a cartoon styling and coloring scheme, still wouldn't consider this "cartoon" accurate, but I'll give you guys this one too for the sake of the debate.
- MP-12 Lambor - G1 toy accurate? G1 cartoon accurate? Way more of a nice hybrid between both to me.

One thing, it looks like there is a pin/screw through the side of hi helmet. I wonder what that is for?

For 100$ and being an MP it better have rubber tires.

I never said anything about this mold being used for Sunstreaker. I just prefer Sunstreaker over Sideswipe. So if and when one comes out, I'll buy it.

Yeah that huge honkin' chest is an eyesore. I wish they worked in a way to collapse it like MP Rodimus.

Will it be Alternator size in bot and vehicle mode? If so it's a must get for me if it's smaller i don't want it as there would be no way to display it with. No i didn't get that Prime that they have pictured, i am fine with MP01 and MP04.

Rated X wrote:Nice, but just too big. After 3 seekers and Grimlock, I gave up the Masterpiece line.
What do you mean too big?
Compare the scaling of the first gen "diaclone" converts, the size are just about on par.
Anyway, just give this a chance, so long as it doesn't break apart in the seams like Rodimus. Rubber tires would be nice and the chest is just right, this is a car after all that "mass shifting" is simply impossible.
I also like how they took a nod at how his face sculp and head for that matter, looks very much like the original Sideswipe/Lambor toy. The henkei version, though equally good, had those icky "side burns" that kind of turned me off.
