Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the highest price yet for a UW set? Is this a limited set? I don't see how the asking price can be so high. Given the rather lukewarm reception I've seen this set has received from the forums, I'll be interested to see how this sells.

It is the highest price yet. I believe it is a TakaraTomy Mall exclusive like Grand Galavatron, who is still listed for $159.99. That was the highest price til now.nycPrime wrote:Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the highest price yet for a UW set? Is this a limited set? I think this goes back to the Japanese yen gaining ground again, BBTS probably had to pay more for Megatronia than they did for Grand Galvatron, so in turn we have to pay more for her

Yeah. And i wanted to write about that. I am very sorry that you Grimdragon and others ended up getting a bit screwed on the exchange with Computron. Especially since I tend to suggest ordering from Japan (at least for international users). But the only reason it ended up cheaper on BBTS for that one was because BBTS did their orders for UW Computron back when the exchange rate was favourable for the US, locking that price in.
We can all do the same by paying upfront, which is what I do when dealing with Nippon Yassan and Anime Export. You pay upfront, which might suck, but at least you guarantee your price (can still get messed with the shipping though for anime export since you pay that later).
Anyways, that BBTS window was small, just a few months, the exchange rate caught up to them too, as we saw with Legends Ginrai which is near 100$ (while he is the same price point as any other leader toy in Japan). So buying from Japan is once again favourable, when its possible (which isnot the case here).
But for Megatronia, something weird is happening because BBTS and the rest arent getting their stock from Japan and arent paying in Yen. They are buying it from Hasbro asia who can distribute to them. The exchange with the HKdollar hasnt changed as drastically. Unless Hasbro Asia gets their stock from Takara (??) and so their cost is higher and thus they pass those costs off to BBTS and company who then pass them off to the consumers. Just thinking logically here.
Anyways, here are some numbers taht might matter (or not).
Grand Galvatron was 16,200 Yen at TTMall which was the equivalent to $135 US in February when he came out.
Megatronia is 16,200 Yen at TTMall which is the equivalent to $162 US
So $30 is lost to exchange rate in less than 6 months time.

Va'al, you got through this whole news post without taking the chance to use the term "Computicoin", and I'm very disappointed
On a more serious note, whilst I'm still absolutely smitten with the UW computron (though lamenting the lack of scrounge0, I doubt I'll get either version. I'm busy steeling myself to take the plunge on the masterpiece soundwave reissue, and frankly as a student, the idea of spending that much in a single hit on robots is daunting enough, let alone doing it twice

UW07 Bruticus: Space Soldier Blast Off.
It's just below the midway point. The effect is kind of the same as Universe 2008 Sunstreaker vs. Sideswipe, down to the hands being switched for the other form. Don't fret about the fin, they can be relocated to the feet
And before you ask, yes, this works perfectly for a possible CR Shuttler (aka RiD 2001 Movor).

This retool is way too good to be legal. I really need it in my life and I don't know how many times I can say it.
Dr Va'al wrote:[/url]
... okay, I am freaking sold. I didn't have a good look at Takara Strafe before and my feelings on it were basically 'cool retool; definitely a solid figure, will be happy to have especially when the rest of the set is so amazing'. But now... oooooh boy, he's competing with Nosecone for the centerpiece of the set!
... okay, well, not competing since Nosecone's way too good to be challenged; but if Nosecone didn't exist Strafe would easily be my most anticipated thing of Computicon here. The colours are so sharp and crisp, the head mold is beautifully striking and those arm blades are just the icing on top. It's a crime I didn't notice this guy sooner, he's so cool.
I will admit there's one thing that worries me about these images - that Nosecone picture of his drill attached to the hole in front of his vehicle shows the peg is near the outer circle of the drill rather than the center, which (unless there's a second peg in the middle) does dampen it's appeal a little...

I wasn't serious really, I was talking about what appears to be pictures of Nosecone after he was blown up and put back together incorrectly. The 5th and 6th pictures from the top.

That's how his legs collapse for transformation, but with the waist doing a 180, likely for clearance issues... do you not own rook? cuz this is totally legit reverse-ger-walk action right here
Posted by Kurona on August 26th, 2016 @ 4:42pm CDT
And again it just shows off how much this mold can do. Rook could already do a lot shown here but it's just, like... Nosecone is the premium version. He takes arguably the best most versatile deluxe in CW/UW and expands upon it so much and adds a drill and everything. He's amazing

Oh I totally get reverse gerwalk mode and it looks great. I also know how to get there, I do have Rook, I just found the two before that with the hulk hand in the air and the one with the drill in the foreground weird. Oh wait I see it now. Those are just cool reverse gerwalk mode in weird poses.
I feel really stupid now.

And let the new heads go to waste?!
And I see why they wouldn't use their Nosecone: the Drillhorn head is still associated with Brawl, plus there's still that (rather small) drill piece to use. The only real obstacle is changing Dezarus to a more acceptable character, I don't think Killbison and Drillhorn sharing form will be much of a problem, look at Fireflight vs. Slingshot and Dead End vs. Wildrider.

I was more thinking the actual drill tank from Nosecone would be more appropriate for Drillhorn. Plus, the whole thing with the torso guy

Still, availability trumps creation any time. I don't see TakaraTomy creating a new Drillhorn head for Rookcone when Brawlcone has a perfectly serviceable one.

YES! Just like they let these other exclusive Platinum heads go to waste last time.
It really doesnt sound like Takara to go half way on a character like Liokaiser, just like they didnt go half way on some "generations" dinobots.

Quick review:
Great figure. I'll argue that the *finally* got the packaging right and you don't have to mess with unyielding plastic ties to get the weapons out. So, that's nice.
Computron looks great. The modifications made to create Strafe, Afterburner, and Nosecone are wonderful.
I think that Lightspeed's mold is fiddly and unfun (as is every other use of the mold) but maybe that's just me. Also think Afterburner would look better in a lighter color (like Hasbro's version), but, again, probably just me.
Overall, another terrific addition to the UW line.

I would be fine if they used the 4 limbs from Hasbro's Liokaiser and then Retooled Optimus/Motormaster into Jaglluar and retooled the Legends Seeker mold with some connectivity to the chest to be Leozack. I think that could work, especially since people fanmoded Thundercracker onto Optimus when Combiner Wars began

I had the brilliant idea to shoot Bruticus' box at the same time I did Compy's, since I already had the studio set up and doing the turnaround on large boxes is a bigger pain in the butt than it looks. Not so brilliant in hindsight.
Anyway, the video's been fixed. Thanks to everyone who let me know about the mistake (and that my first music choice wasn't a super great fit for it).

I got mine from amazon too. It was a steal at 10,680 Yen!
Anyway, STRAFE really is the show-stealer here, chaps. The extra, foldable wings, the fact that he looks great when combined with Superion (honourary Arialbot!) and his posability just drive him to the top spot.
Lightspeed is OK. I can get his groin/legs to settle down quite quickly (more so than his Stunticon counterpart) and I think of all the CW car mold choices, this is the best one. I especially liked how the new guns fit into the slots (not originally designed for holding weapons) of his car mode at the sides, like how 3rd Party companies find unique was of attaching add-on kits to official figues.
I've just ordered the PE feet and hands, and i am not combining it until they arrive...
Here are some pics I took of them, complete with a fan-mode for Scattershot to make his cannon mode: - http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/transform ... -2413.html

Amazon Japan is free shipping, so no charge.
Amazon has a "lowest price" guarantee for pre-orders. If the price increases, the original price is honored. If it goes down, the price is reduced. Win-win.
