Maybe I'm too used to the blue on my Classics one?

I love the way they have Magnus' armour flying off like hes busting out!!
It reminds me of an old Dreamwave incentive cover which I think perhaps Pat Lee pencilled [TBC by Matt Moylan!]?
Posted by Sodan-1 on August 29th, 2012 @ 10:41am CDT
That armour breaking off of him looks bland enough that I hope they're not bothering to produce it.

For those still believing this is official, let me say, 1 the pic picture is amateurish at best.
Takara would never use a 3rd party item to promote its toys.
Takara has never used the term Classics. Heck not even Hasbro used it. It's a fan term.
Combined with All the cloudiness surrounding th figure, I'm calling it a big fat, ugly, and worthless hoax.

1) Why wouldn't they? They KNOW it'll sell, and they have every reason to produce it. What's Fansproject going to do? Sue them? Somehow, I think not.
2) Okay? So they can start. Nobody used the term "Generations" before 2008/2009. Everyone already calls it the "Classics ____" mold, so why not use a term that's engraved into the fandom?
3) There's...really no cloudiness anymore. I mean, it was under debate at first, but there's no reason to doubt the authenticity at this point.

Yeah, those armor pieces are from the 1986 G1 Ultra Magnus trailer.Banjo-Tron wrote:Overcracker wrote:Takara would never use a 3rd party item to promote its toys.

Those armor pieces actually look like the G1 toy, not the FP City Commander

And Fan terms can be made official. Like "kibble" and "faux-part" are now used by Hasbro's design team. Besides, we may import a lot of Japanese figures, but the opposite has also happened: Japanese importing Hasbro figures, and using our terminology as well. Don't underestimate our influence!

Fans project city commander armor is Flying off of him in the pic.
Why on earth would they use an American term for an Asian Exclusive (which by the way, Asian exclusives are a Hasbro thing not Takara) where nobody calls it that or knows the term?
Too many inconsistencies... Call me a scheptic but, I don't buy it.

Robotkingdom has already confirmed that this is an official release. These images come from an official website that was recently set up to promote all the new Asian market exclusives. The images look similar to the promo images e-Hobby used to promote Stepper and Artfire, and that's not FansProject CC armor in the image, it's G1 Ultra Magnus armor. As far as the Classics terminology, this whole Asian exclusive market is a new deal, they seem to be doing whatever they want.

Except that is HasTak G1 Magnus, not FP City Commander. I think (and hope) that it is legit. I prefer the all white to the white/blue.

Granted your SIX years late to the party but it's cool bro :p
The Magnus is sick, Is it better then the U.S. version?
Too early to say. Personally, myself, I always found
classic magnus more eye catching and striking then
classic prime. The white just oozed detail & win.

As for the use of the term "classics", Asia is not somehow unaware of the fact that the line is well known as that in the US. Go look on Ebay at all the sellers in China, Hong Kong, Japan, and other Pacific/Asian regions properly labeling TFs as "Classics". The only thing I find odd is the mix of Classics and TakaraTomy being mentioned at the same time. Most "Asia" (not Japan) items are Hasbro, not TT.

OmicronZero wrote:I find it utterly depressing how many people on a dedicated transformers forum don't recognize the 80s G1 Ultra Magnus armor. That's the armor flying off in the promo picture, for those don't recognize it. It's not Fansproject's City Commander (which really does not look much like the 80s toy), nor is it an entirely new armor. I'm pretty sure it's just supposed to be a reference to the fact that the Classics/Generations line is supposed to be "neo G1".

XDMan wrote:Does the first promo photo mean: Armor sold separatly?
No, that's "Classic Ultra Magnus" spelled in Japanese. To be exact it says:
"Ku-ra-si-kku U-ru-to-ra Ma-gu-na-su"
There is no armor.
Posted by puttster3 on August 29th, 2012 @ 2:48pm CDT
Seriously, incase you havent noticed how the two armours are different, think of this, the G1 chest piece is somewhat thin, FP CC chest piece is bulky.
Look at picture, see chest piece? Good. Now, chest piece thin or bulky?
Anyone who says that chest piece is bulky, then...
Posted by Banjo-Tron on August 29th, 2012 @ 3:12pm CDT
Sick of these exclusives though. Where is Aisa, and is anyone living there willing to do a bulk buy for us?

Robot mode: Classics. Aside from the gun and the paint apps on the head, Henkei just looks too plain. And the fact that the thighs are painted but the knee joint is black plastic bothers me for some reason.
Overall: A fantastic choice, especially for people who weren't able to nab the Classics version. Curious to see if there's any noticeable differences with CC Armor. As for me though, unnecessary. Still, kudos!

its not that hard to take a decent high quality picture - flash off - decent light source - macro on - steady focus on
from what i can see of these pics henkei magnus just looks terrible. He looks like some kinda KO the factory couldnt be arsed to finish adding the final paint applications to
The figure is just TOO white and looks unfinished. The classics version just looks miles better than the late henkei version. The white legs the completely white arms...it just looks unfinished. Only thing the henkei one has over the classics one is the blue face plate but again you can fix this yourself by getting the FP city commander stickers from reprolabels
the henkei 1 is way way to late and just doesnt look that good. I cant justify spending cash on this when theres far far superior 3rd party stuff coming out like the ko shadow scythe kit or the new insecticons etc

How about this for justification?
In the Dreamwave G1 continuity, Ultra Magnus shed his armor and looked like a G1 version of this figure. The second Masterpiece figure was a G1 version of this character. In the Binaltech/Alternity version of G1, he also shed his armor in order to use the Matrix of Leadership prior to defeating Unicron... And he also looked like the G1 version of this.
The Alternity version (sold at the Transformers China Carnival, and also by e-HOBBY) was this color scheme. As was the Revoltech variant of Convoy, which was based on the Dreamwave version, was this same color scheme. And all because... You guessed it... The robot that resides underneath the armor is that color scheme.
Here is an example on what I am talking about:
But yeah... If that is not convincing enough, consider the fact that this could result in the making of a new "City Commander" armor set for this figure. I know that there are others out there that are.

I mean in G1 the cab merged into ultra magnus. The cab was just a cab for vehicle mode. The toy was a copy of prime because it was probably easier to do it that way (because originally he was diaclone powered convoy remember) and the MP magnus we got was just a white prime because Takara couldnt be arsed to give us a proper magnus with the armour
I just dont see the point in this henkei release when they KNOW people would rather spend there money on something better such as Hercules or MT devastator or hegemon etc. If takara want my money when it comes to classics etc then there seriously gona need to step up instead of giving me a lame crappy repaint of a figure whos...what? 3+ somert years old now?
I mean jesus christ Hegemon blows the crap outa classics megatron, anyone else notice henkei megatrons price seriously drop since hegemon came out? if a 3rd party company thats smaller than hasbro or takara can do BETTER than hasbro or takara themselves then isnt that kinda saying something?

I know. However, when it comes to Ultra Magnus' G1 history, it was very much rumored that he was also reformatted by Alpha Trion. So underneath his armor, he looks like Convoy/Optimus Prime. This was one part of Magnus and Convoy being "brothers."
As for the figures, he was done "sans armor" in 1985 and 1987. Plus, the 2004 Masterpiece was not "half-assed"... But rather a revelation that the designer was more or less inspired by the Dreamwave version of the character. But even then, they have recently announced that another MP version of Ultra Magnus will include his armor.

You don't see it because you don't want it. You need to remember that your reasons to not get it do not reflect anything beyond that. However, this is an Asian market release. There is no real confirmation if it will be a Henkei! piece... Yet. And even if it is or isn't, it is primarily targeted at those who collect Ultra Magnus figures... As well as any others that want to buy it for their reasons.

Again... Your opinion. So lets use your view on this item with what you praised: "Why would somebody want to buy a third-party product when it contributes nothing to the Transformers fanbase? They are overpriced, and have no real value outside of what these companies are charging. I can buy numerous pieces that will have a higher demand and resale value, and I am also talking about reissues. So why buy third party when I can get the real deal for less?"
Point being is simple: People will buy it to add to their Ultra Magnus collection, to have a Ultra Magnus figure, modifications, in order to use third-party add-ons, to add to their Transformers collection, display pieces, and/or to have an affordable piece to play with.

The Henkei version is a good alternative for those who where unable to get Classics.

RiddlerJ wrote:The thing is, thanks to the different transformation scheme, it is possible to paint the robot like Ultra Magnus' outer armor (only the top chest would have to remain white). Couple that with a new head and this would be a wonderful Ultra Mangnus figure that didn't need add ons.

Stockade wrote:You know i just don't understand some people, i mean everyone wants a certain Transformer produced or made and Hasbro and Takara comes through for us from time to time. And then yes we're glad they made it, but its not up too par, like not enough articulation, the wrong weapon(s) or just the wrong damn color, the wrong size, the list goes on and on. And now we have Ultra Magnus in the right colors, and in the right G1 colors that i remember back from the 80s, but yet people are really tearing this mold apart cause now UM is too white and too plain? I mean i use to have a G1 UM as a kid yes i loved the armor he came with, but hell have of the time i didnt put it on him, i just like him white and looked great with OP and the other autobots. And even someone said that UM dropped his armor in the comics and he is all white in there too? All i can say is, yes i have the classics version of this mold and its pretty good, but for me i'd rather have one close to the G1 version as possible so ill keep mine on pre-order and i will say that he will a nice edition to the Autobot Team.
There is a saying I have that goes, "When you cannot look past your own views on things, then you are not seeing the whole world as it is." Meaning that when it comes to preferences and beliefs, not everybody looks past their own.
Myself, I am constantly contemplating on adding/seeking characters and series that may fit what I am going for when it comes to my collection. But even then, I always try to keep my preferences separate from my opinion on items. Because I personally like series-accurate reissues, while others prefer the vintage sets.
As for this item - and the fact I brought up the comic - I hear you on the subject. Currently, I have justified myself on not ordering it (yet) as I am wondering if they will have it be a Henkei! piece or not. If it is a Henkei! piece, then I might even though I am not sure how I would feel having him instead of of trying to obtain Skyfire.
So yeah... I'll stop right there since this is making me rethink the idea of seeking out Supreme Commanders that also existed between Fight! to Headmasters, since I am already collecting/seeking other Cybertron Commanders. And the idea kinda hurts my brain more than it does my wallet, BTW.
