As for the rework/recolor, if you can, get it. It's quality is Masterpiece-level (minus, of course, the die-cast), and the skill with which they paint it is unmatched in just about any other TF I've ever seen. I'm so glad I waited for this one to come out. It's just an excellent purchase.
And Prime will be the first one to tell you that. It's amazing how much pride Cullen manages to put into that phrase of the toy's.

Top of my head I can think of 7
Buster Prime, Optimus Primal (remolded head), Bat Primal, TM Primal, Optimal Optimus, BM Primal and Primal Prime

Cybertron Optimus Prime/Galaxy Convoy and I think the voyager sized Animated Prime had mouthplates you can raise and lower for down 'talking' and up 'battle ready' looks.

Let's count the molds:
1. Optimus Primal (bat)
2. Transmetal Optimus Primal
3. Optimal Optimus
4. Beast Machines Optimus Primal
5. Blast Punch Optimus Primal
6. Air Attack Optimus Primal
7. Energon Optimus Prime (1st variant)
8. Beast Wars Reborn Convoy
9. Robot Masters Beast Convoy
10. Galaxy Convoy
11. Beast Wars 10th Anniversary Optimus Primal
12. Animated Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime
13. Animated Optimus Prime (Voyager)
14. Buster Optimus Prime
If you're including repaints of other figures:
15. G2 Go-Bot Optimus Prime
16. Machine Wars Optimus Prime
That's... a lot

Absolutely love the gun though. Too bad there's little chance of it being made as an add-on kit. As cool as the Gear of War gun is, it would be so much better if it could store in vehicle mode like this.

Yes, it did...at first.
I running change shortly after the release of the toy changed this.
The faceplate-lacking version was wildly unpopular at the time and is now kind of sought after due to its scarcity.

So I have a rare sought after Prego Prime? Woo-hoo!

And case-in-point ...

Hm. Makes me realize that I should have a separate gallery for Energon Optimus Prime and Superlink Grand Convoy since they're pretty different. Chrome, brighter colors, and faceplate grace Grand Convoy while the original Energon Optimus Prime lacks the chrome, has less intense colors, and a mouth similar to Optimus Primal's.
I guess I've never seen a US version with the faceplate. Are the colors the same as the original Energon version?

I'm fairly certain the colors were exactly the same.

Yep, it's the same.

You got that backwards. The first release of Energon Optimus Prime had the mouth, whereas the mouthplated version was the running change. I remember this very well because I was so mad that they gave Prime a mouth on his Energon toy, but then I heard they'd be releasing a mouthplated version later on with certain numbers imprinted on the box's underside to identify this running change. So, I searched many stores, turning each Optimus Prime box upside-down, looking for these numbers, but to no avail, and had no choice but to get the ugly mouthed version. BUT, the mouthplated one with the numbers finally started turning up many months later (but I had already gotten the other one and there was no way I'd be allowed to get a second of the same exact figure of that size ).Counterpunch wrote:cingularman31 wrote:Energon Prime (Hasbro) didn't have a faceplate either

Read what Counterpunch wrote again. He said the faceplate version came second, just like you're saying.

This is correct.
I was identifying the 'mouth' version as first and the 'cowl' version second.
I can see how my post might have been unclear. But I do know my Energon. Afterall...

But, I did notice several missing. While ya'll did cover all the Optimus figures, I did also say "Convoy" figures, which isn't limited to just "Optimus Prime" and "Optimus Primal" figures. So, just to make the list bigger, I'll throw these in:
17. G1 Rodimus Prime/Rodimus Convoy
18. Joe Convoy*
19. Energon Rodimus/Superlink Rodimus Convoy
20. Cybertron Override/Nitro Convoy
21. Cybertron Scourge/Flame Convoy
22. Cybertron Evac/Live Convoy
23. Cybertron Metroplex/Megalo Convoy
24. Legends of Cybertron Scourge
25. Legends of Cybertron Evac
26. Titanium Rodimus Prime
And some other Optimus figures missing:
27. McDonald's Beast Machines Optimus Primal
28. Burger King Cybertron Optimus Prime
29. Legends of Cybertron Optimus Prime
And more redecos from other molds:
30. Orion Pax
31. Dawn of Future's Past Optimus Primal
32. Legends Class Classics Leo Prime
And an Optimus-like figure:
33. Optimus Minor
*A.K.A. BW Megatron. Can be represented by any of his purple T-Rex figures - sure, I know it was a false name, but it's too funny to ignore

Only 30 and 31 would count for me, but o well.

I think I have a US version with the plate. I'll have to double check though.
