Our own member Narc has pointed out that BotCon has the first preview images for the BotCon09 set up on their site. The Figure is a redecco of the Cybertron deluxe Red Alert mould with a new head representing the young G1 Kup.

This looks actually pretty good, this might be the best version of that mould I wish I had the kind of cash to drop on these things.

I did not expect that mold to be used for Kup, but it looks fairly cool.

so this year's story is set in TFA,but is using old school transformers from years past to represent the characters?eh,i have heard worse ideas, this could be good.kup looks exceptionally well.

Well that's disappointing. The red-alert mold is the last mold I'd picture for Kup.

Not the the colors are bad, I do like the silver chest, and the head sculpt s pretty good, its just not a mold that would immediately bring to mind Kup.

I wonder how they are going to explain his lack of a left hand. "Kup decided he was to weak for the elite guard, so he had his hand replaced with a mace to emulate his hero Ultra Magnus and his huge Mjolnir-like Hammer"

I think the movie repaint is a better use. than this.

I don't think that FunPub has the authorization to use the movie molds, since I believe they're joint-owned by Hasbro and ILM

I think he means the repaint of the same mould in the Movie toy line.

No, it's the G1 take on the team. No Animated stuff whatsoever. Remember, it's "Timelines" where anything goes ;)

I only have one reservation about this incarnation of Kup: the left hand. I mean, couldn't they have made a new hand for that mold as well as a new head? :? Other than that, looking good. Still wish I could be there, but alas... should have gone when they were in Frisco TX :-x

Meh. I've seen customs that look better than this. The head is the only thing "Kup" about it.

For some reason, I really want this, but the fatalist in me (or the part of me who can't GET to Botcon) knows I won't get it.

Well, for a reasonable price. Damned Scalpers.

Look at those rims! The head sculpt isn't that bad either.

I may not be able to go this year, But I hope the box set is nice for those who attend.

I'm actually understanding the reasoning for this... in the "Transform and Roll Out" Pilot, in the opening scene, we see a video log of the Autobot/Decepticon War using images from original G1 episodes "War Dawn" & "More Than Meets The Eye Pt. 1"; the design asthetic from the troops seen in "War Dawn" are more in line with the Cybertron line design asthetic than anything else if one were to compare it to anything, so while the last million years or so of the show's history is animated in a stylized fashion, Hasbro might use what started out as a small homage to thier advantage by choosing other Energon/Cybertron molds that fit the million years prior to suit the G1 footage used.

I like what they've done... I will put these first Elite Gaurd troops alongside the current Elite Gaurd Animated figures to show the Gaurds' historical progresion.

while everyone is fully entitled to do whatever they want with their figures, it does clearly say g1 styled elite guard on the botcon page. (not saying you're wrong to group them with animated elite guard, just trying to clear up any confusion others may have)

Yes,... G1 style; not explicitly G1, merely the asthetic, i.e. what we saw being played on the vid screens in the first episode of Transformers Animated.
Re: BotCon Kup Preview!!! (889483)

Cybertron Red Alert is among my favourite figures, and Kup is one of my top G1 characters, but I'm not so sure they go so well together.

In vehicle mode he reminds me more of Animated Sentinel Prime than anything else.

Guess its a good thing in the long run if I am not overly impressed with it, trying to get Botcon figure when not able to attend Botcon is a pain.

Dirtboss might have worked better.

That's cool, but I prefer the custom Kup I have better.

Still, I can't wait to see who else they have in store.

The mold is on of my favorite Cybertron Deluxe figures, but I would have never thought he'd make a good Kup. Not bad, but not terribly eye-catching, either.

I am actually a little underwhelmed, when we were all suspecting animated repaints, I was looking forward to an Animated Cybertronian mode Prime repaint.

I really liked the idea of a nemesis prime based on Animated Earth mode Prime as well.

This Kup looks good, but I wouldn't have picked this mold.

Don't forget. Just because you can't go to Botcon doesn't mean you can't get the box set. you can still order the Iacon package. Every year people freak out because they think they can't get the box set because they aren't going to Botcon. Not true!!!

Yes that's what I meant, thanks Dead Metal.

The usage of Red Alert for Movie Krankase was better. That trying ot use it for Kup..

I know the movie molds are off limits, even to Hasbro themselves. Which is why Movie molds are not likely to be seen outside movie lines.

For a young Kup?

I think I would have retooled Cybertron Hot Shot.

I know it sounds crazy, but it would have great symmetry, hinting that he was very similar to Hot Rod in his youth, and that clunky backpack which forms the entire top rear of Hot Shots car mode could have been turned into a shallow truck bed for that futuristic El Camino look.

Meh, not a mold I have chosen. And it looks a little too similar to that movie GoBot-homage repaint of the same mold that came out recently.

I agree with what most people are saying, it looks good but maybe not the best choice of molds =(

I also have an abundance of this mold owning Red Alert, Cannonball and CrankCase. At least it's 2 Autobots to 2 Decepticons now =P

Im just a bit disappointed since this is the first BotCon I get to go to and already the exclusive mold is one I already own 3 times. I wish they could have at least tooled a new hand. Even if they have a good story with it, that gimmick is already well known for someone else [Red Alert and maybe even Cannonball]. It's like if some other super hero that can excite kinetic energy in a playing card and throw them like little bombs comes on the scene, it's like, "hey wait, that's someone else's thing"

hopefully the other figs will be some interesting and unique retools.

This is like a dream come true to me. Recently I've been digging through Cybertron molds and collecting all available repaints on some of my favorite molds: Hot Shot (5), Red Alert (3), Crosswise (5) & Defense Hot Shot (3). All of them except Red Alert mold were used in recent convention exclusives, so I was really hoping Red Alert could get a special repaint as well. Here it is, although used for Kup, a character I wouldn't expect, but I am just so excited over it.

Red Alert, Cannonball & Crankcase await comrade Kup! (for my toy collection line up of course, not faction allegiance.)

You mean Triggercon. The Gobots homage was Fracture, the repaint of Classics Mirage ;)

I was not expecting that mold for Kup. The head mold does look young but it is too glittery for my liking. I hope it will be better in person. I am happy that we are getting a new Kup figure. Isn't it the first since G1?
Re: BotCon Kup Preview!!! (889570)
Posted by Riotflea on February 24th, 2009 @ 5:56pm CST
The vehicle mode's not very "Kup", but it's a good, solid mold nonetheless.

They can't make enough repaints of it.
It's an good toy that can be played with and DOES look cool. : )

Really? I know you can get them second hand for outrageous prices....but are you talking about another method, or what?

If there is a way to get Botcon exclusives outside of Botcon for cheaper than a couple of bill payments, I would certainly like to know how and where.

I'm likin' the head sculpt, but not the paint scheme. What's with the bright orange racing stripes on an SUV? Leave it in Kup's classic colors of dark teal, aqua, and gunmetal gray. Over-decorating toys is one of my big pet peeves with Hasbro these days...

You have to buy a box set. then you can purchase a bagged set, but only if you buy the box set
Re: BotCon Kup Preview!!! (889645)
Posted by Bed Bugs on February 24th, 2009 @ 8:18pm CST
Yeah, the bagged sets are "earned" by buying a boxset first, then paying $200.

So if you don't care about the box, tech specs, certificate, comic, and pin, and just want the five figures, you can try and track an attendee down online here and work out a deal to buy a bagged set through them.

Bagged sets have tech specs. I am almost positive. Just no box.
