Not the the colors are bad, I do like the silver chest, and the head sculpt s pretty good, its just not a mold that would immediately bring to mind Kup.
I wonder how they are going to explain his lack of a left hand. "Kup decided he was to weak for the elite guard, so he had his hand replaced with a mace to emulate his hero Ultra Magnus and his huge Mjolnir-like Hammer"
I think the movie repaint is a better use. than this.

I don't think that FunPub has the authorization to use the movie molds, since I believe they're joint-owned by Hasbro and ILM

I think he means the repaint of the same mould in the Movie toy line.

No, it's the G1 take on the team. No Animated stuff whatsoever. Remember, it's "Timelines" where anything goes
I only have one reservation about this incarnation of Kup: the left hand. I mean, couldn't they have made a new hand for that mold as well as a new head? Other than that, looking good. Still wish I could be there, but alas... should have gone when they were in Frisco TX

Well, for a reasonable price. Damned Scalpers.

I may not be able to go this year, But I hope the box set is nice for those who attend.

it's not soundwave, its scourge.

I like what they've done... I will put these first Elite Gaurd troops alongside the current Elite Gaurd Animated figures to show the Gaurds' historical progresion.

PlasmaEnergyGod wrote:I'm actually understanding the reasoning for this... in the "Transform and Roll Out" Pilot, in the opening scene, we see a video log of the Autobot/Decepticon War using images from original G1 episodes "War Dawn" & "More Than Meets The Eye Pt. 1"; the design asthetic from the troops seen in "War Dawn" are more in line with the Cybertron line design asthetic than anything else if one were to compare it to anything, so while the last million years or so of the show's history is animated in a stylized fashion, Hasbro might use what started out as a small homage to thier advantage by choosing other Energon/Cybertron molds that fit the million years prior to suit the G1 footage used.

while everyone is fully entitled to do whatever they want with their figures, it does clearly say g1 styled elite guard on the botcon page. (not saying you're wrong to group them with animated elite guard, just trying to clear up any confusion others may have)

In vehicle mode he reminds me more of Animated Sentinel Prime than anything else.
Guess its a good thing in the long run if I am not overly impressed with it, trying to get Botcon figure when not able to attend Botcon is a pain.

Ditto.
Dirtboss might have worked better.

I really liked the idea of a nemesis prime based on Animated Earth mode Prime as well.
This Kup looks good, but I wouldn't have picked this mold.

Yes that's what I meant, thanks Dead Metal.
The usage of Red Alert for Movie Krankase was better. That trying ot use it for Kup..
I know the movie molds are off limits, even to Hasbro themselves. Which is why Movie molds are not likely to be seen outside movie lines.

I think I would have retooled Cybertron Hot Shot.
I know it sounds crazy, but it would have great symmetry, hinting that he was very similar to Hot Rod in his youth, and that clunky backpack which forms the entire top rear of Hot Shots car mode could have been turned into a shallow truck bed for that futuristic El Camino look.

I also have an abundance of this mold owning Red Alert, Cannonball and CrankCase. At least it's 2 Autobots to 2 Decepticons now =P
Im just a bit disappointed since this is the first BotCon I get to go to and already the exclusive mold is one I already own 3 times. I wish they could have at least tooled a new hand. Even if they have a good story with it, that gimmick is already well known for someone else [Red Alert and maybe even Cannonball]. It's like if some other super hero that can excite kinetic energy in a playing card and throw them like little bombs comes on the scene, it's like, "hey wait, that's someone else's thing"
hopefully the other figs will be some interesting and unique retools.

Red Alert, Cannonball & Crankcase await comrade Kup! (for my toy collection line up of course, not faction allegiance.)

You mean Triggercon. The Gobots homage was Fracture, the repaint of Classics Mirage

They can't make enough repaints of it.
It's an good toy that can be played with and DOES look cool. : )

Hmm...I did not know this!

Really? I know you can get them second hand for outrageous prices....but are you talking about another method, or what?
If there is a way to get Botcon exclusives outside of Botcon for cheaper than a couple of bill payments, I would certainly like to know how and where.

You have to buy a box set. then you can purchase a bagged set, but only if you buy the box set
Posted by Bed Bugs on February 24th, 2009 @ 8:18pm CST
So if you don't care about the box, tech specs, certificate, comic, and pin, and just want the five figures, you can try and track an attendee down online here and work out a deal to buy a bagged set through them.

Bagged sets have tech specs. I am almost positive. Just no box.

I look forward to seeing what else this set will hold.
