Man, I'd totally buy this if it was region free.

Or if Shout Factory has this in the pipeline.

Hopefully it's region free w/english subs. If it is, I'll be all over it. Are we sure the price is accurate though? Seems a little high...

PLEASE LET THIS BE LEGIT!!!!

This show, and Beast Wars Neo, has NEVER, NEVER recieved any official DVD release even in Japan! Only its movie got released on DVD, but not the show.

Both Second and Neo were given full complete release on VHS, but none on DVD.

This had me wondering for ages if there even existed digital copies of the Toei masters of these two series. And if none did exist, then there would be little to no hope for a DVD release of any kind for these two.

And since I've been dying to see these two shows (beyond episode 4 of Second), I really, REALLY, REALLY want this news to be legitimate.

I don't care how bad people have descibed these two shows being. Any and all talk by those who have seen them, be it postive comments or negative criticism, just makes me want to see them even more so I can judge them for myself. I am well aware of them being for younger audiences, so in no way am I expecting these to be "awesome" or "epic", but rather more like "funny" and "friendly".

I thought the price seemed awfully high as well, that converts to like 384.00 USD. That is what it is listed for on Rakuten though.

Well Rakuten is definitely a legit retailer, but beyond that who knows.

Thinking about it, Beast Wars Second and Neo are, I'm pretty sure, the only TF series' that I've never seen.

This definitely gives me hope for a US release sometime, hopefully before the world ends. But holy crap :ic$:

I peed a little.

Oddly, the Netherlads and Japan have the same regional code, so no problems for me (yay). Now for some subs and the correct price and I'll be over the Moon (GET IT? GET IT?).

Even so, the general price for most 4-disc sets of TV shows and the like is around $35 to $40. I'd gladly pay $70-$75 max for this set, but I'm certain the price is definitely inaccurate.

Hi everyone! Just thought I might clear a few things up-

1. This will definitely be region 2, but aren't most DVD players able to be switched to "region 0"? You just have to look up the appropriate code.
2. 99.9% positive these will not have English subtitles. This is a result of the Japanese market not caring, as well as an antiquated/conservative means of doing business.
3. The price, as high as it is, it's most certainly not a typo or inaccurate. Japanese DVD releases, especially for animation that has not yet reached the states (and even afterwards) are generally very expensive. Certain animated series can come as two episodes a disc for over 4-5000 yen (roughly $50-60, I guess), depending on "pedigree".
4. No Blu-ray for probably a long, long time, unless they have remastered these for HD, which is unlikely.

If you feel any of these are disputable, please look at the very least of the original pricing/releases of Transformers series in Japan. Japanese products are a lot more expensive for a plethora of reasons, one of the main being that they know this will have a limited market, and they want to bleed it as much as possible.

Oh and just to ruin everyone's fun even more, no chance of any kind of English dub.

Hope I've been informative!

Great, more subtitles. I have downloaded every Japansese TF series ever created but I just dont have the interest to watch them because subtitles ruin a show. I just cant seem to enjoy anything I have to read and watch at the same time. You cant keep up.

g2grimmy64 wrote:ENGLISH. SUBS. REGION. FREE.
That's asking for too much. This is not foreign release, but a domestic (to Japan) release. Domestic releases are Region 2 with no subtitles due to reasons regarding business politics. It's the same reason that American DVDs don't have that many foreign audio tracks/subtitles (aside from maybe Spanish, French, etc.), so as to prevent people from importing DVDs so they can buy their own domestic releases.

Thank you very much. What with the timing of this pre-order being found during Shout! Factory's own releases of the JG1 sets, I expected some people to mistake this for another subtitled DVD release.

There are no subtitles! This is not a set to be bought in America. It's for a domestic purchase in Japan only, just like how the new Beast Wars DVDs are for a domestic purchase in America only.

This is the first time this show has ever been put on DVD. We need to wait our turn for any subtitled release.

BWII had characters based on 2nd year pre-Transmetal toys, plus G1/G2 repaints, plus some retools. That's the difference with Neo that had all new molds all the way.

And I surely hope an experienced studio takes up this series and either dubs it (with good vioces) or subs it. We really need to fill the gap between Beast Wars S1 and S2/3.

Since they didn't redub the JG1 series, I'd say a subbed release will be our best bet.

BWII and Neo don't occur between seasons 1 and 2/3 (even though it aired during then). It takes place "tens of thousands of years" after Beast Wars Returns (Beast Machines).

Still, the majority is new, and I own half of them. On the hunt for Survive, Bump and Crazybolt are a bonus, but Randy is a GPS-hazard if I ever saw one.

I know, that's what I was referring to! Still, i'm gonna argue that Beast Machines is a splinter timeline thanks to Megatron's handiwork.

They should rerelease every GPS/BPS figure with gold/brown paint instead of plastic.

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:One can dream... Just keep the Japanese names and I'm happy.
Indeed! If they were to be dubbed, I'd want the Ocean Studios voice cast to provide the voices, so as to keep the entire Beast Era consistently voiced by that group. Though, I would really like for Garry Chalk to not voice either Lio Convoy or Big Convoy, as well as for David Kaye to not voice either Galvatron or Magmatron. That's a cliche I'd like to avoid, and (in Garry Chalk's case) it would kinda be redundant when Optimus Primal appears alongside Lio Convoy in "Lio Convoy Kiki Ippatsu".

JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:I know, that's what I was referring to! Still, i'm gonna argue that Beast Machines is a splinter timeline thanks to Megatron's handiwork.
Well, if these two shows are any indication, the whole of Beast Machines changing Cybertron gets undone at some point. ;)

That's a real shame. You can get a lot more from the original audio of foreign media (though in the case of Children's anime, maybe not so much. Depends on how keen you are for it/the quality of it). You can train yourself to appreciate it, though I don't find it hard because i grew up around some subtitled media. Who knows.

If they have the original film masters they can be remastered to an appropriate standard. The Transformers masters are missing, so there isn't a huge point. There are advantages to many titles, even pre-digital ones, that aren't just produced in HD.

The only anime I watch are children's/preteen's anime, and I get a lot out of them.

Though, yes, watching with subs isn't that hard a skill to master.

We in the Netherlands do nothing but, everything foreign on TV (even Flemish!) is subtitled, except for children's shows and cartoons. May I add that our dubbing is lame with a capital L, especially when the shows dubbed are live-action?

They both share inspiration at least: a Japanese myth about a rabbit living on the moon with a maiden. This motif is very common in Japanese media, along with the 4 Guardian Beasts (Dragon, Bird, Tiger and Turtle), and Tanabata, the story about the weaver girl and the shepherd. Bunny girl? I know of a bunny, and a girl, but what bunny girl? :???:

I was talking about Artemis of course ,but i do see your point .I have always seen her like a futuristic anime "bunny girl " cause of her hair and the way her outfit in done around the belly =P~ area .Also since she hangs out with Moon .Her nose is a little bunny like too so i always saw her this way .But i can see why other would see her different . ;) .I am sorry about the confusion :KREMZEEK: . I should of used her name ,just thought "bunny girl " sounded funny :P .
Oh, right. Her.

I guess I can see some rabbit influence in her design. Wonder if her look was inspired in any way by Usagi Tsukino. ;)

Here's a page you should visit:

Moon Rabbit on Wikipedia
Been there done that. :P

Though, now you got me thinking why they've never done the four beasts in TF media before. Have four powerful ancient bots with dragon, tortoise, tiger and phoenix beast modes.

Nico Nico Chokuhan have posted a mock up of the package art for the upcoming Beast Wars II DVD Boxset. This will be the first time this series has ever made available on DVD format. The set will include all 43 episodes that aired 1998 on 8 discs and is scheduled for release October 20th for 29,400 yen. They note the final packaging is subject to change.

Man I have never understood why DVDs are so expensive in Japan. Even if the Yen and the dollar were the same value right now, this set would cost $294. With the current exchange rate, it's around $385 currently. At a one-to-one rate, that'd still be about $264 more than the $30 this should cost. Hopefully Shout Factory will release this in the future. I've got my fingers crossed!

And hopefully they'll learn from their mistakes with the subbing of the Japanese G1 series.

You have no idea what goes on in the process of dubbing, have you? Why are you being so Xenophobic? >:oP

Actually, the redubbing is done by separate studios (be them or be them not located in the US) who buy the rights to do so for such a series, not by the studios who originally created them. Why do you think we have studios like Funimation or 4Kids (blech)?

Besides, the "I scratch your back and you'll scratch mine" does not work in the business world.

No I dont, but Im sure somewhere out there in Japan there is a group of fans with enough talent and time on their hands to take on the job. But hey if you like sub-tites, go for this version. Id rather create a onlize buzz calling for the real deal. I know Im just a drop in the bucket, but you never know who reads these posts.

For the bazillionth time, this is the DOMESTIC Japanese DVD release. There are NO subtitles in this this set. NO ONE OUTSIDE OF JAPAN is intended to buy this set. Stop jumping to conclusions when you don't know the whole story. :BANG_HEAD:

There is NO PROFIT in producing an English dub for a show about toys that haven't been for sale in 13 years. Hasbro would have to spend more than they'd earn on a new dub in order to make one.
