While his silhouette is teased on Takaratomymall, he will be fully revealed the 25th of October. The picture's file name is Baldigus, confirming the identity of this release. We do not know if there will be any retooling involved. A silfouette of the individual members was found in the Megatronia comic, also shown below.

This might...actually be my first pass. I've purchased/plan on purchasing all the UW sets up until now because IMO they are either superior to CW, or offer something unique (well one could argue that Superion & Menasor are pretty much the same aside from the paint apps). But all the others have been different in some way. I have/enjoy UW Bruticus. If this is a straight up repaint I'll be a bit disappointed. They have to offer something different I would think/hope. Also, Baldigus had nothing to do with Unicron previously..., not sure how this all makes sense.
So we get the full reveal on the 25th...Lynx Master is supposed to come out on the 29th...Hopefully soon we'll be getting a close up of the packaging.

I don't know if it's worth it. It only looks good in alt mode (where it is awesome ). In every other mode, it just makes everything a mess. The helicopter blades are my least favorite thing about the AB mold and four blades makes it worse.

That's not entirely true.Kurona wrote:What's odd to me is that they have Movor on the arm even though in the cartoon he was also commonly shown as a leg
Back when I was putting this together, I determined that Ruination/Baldigus formed his Flight Mission formation exactly nine times in RiD 2001 (eight times in Car Robots since one of the times in the dub was added to the dub). Meanwhile, his Land Mission formation was formed a mere seven times in RiD 2001 (six times in Car Robots since one of the times in the dub was in one of the dub's clip shows). So he was seen in his Flight Mission a little more often than his Land Mission.

I agree, they are the worst part of that mold and having four doesn't make things any better. They get in the way and really don't position well at all. They really should've redesigned the rotor completely instead of just adding two more blades using the exact same design.

Any combiner using the Autobot Brothers as limbs ought to, IMHO, have Tow-Line as the fourth limb since, in Car Robots, he is their cousin, part of their family.RiddlerJ wrote:If they're doing Baldigus/Ruination, they should really do an Autobot RID combiner too.

First, I wanna see Devastator repainted as Landfill.
Yeah, I know it's a poor match in combined mode -- but in addition to the CR Build Team, we've got G1 Targetmasters Quickmix and Scoop we could throw in to the set, giving each Constructicon an Autobot repaint:
Hook -> Hightower
Scavenger -> Grimlock (needs a new name)
Long Haul -> Heavyload
Bonecrusher -> Wedge
Mixmaster -> Quickmix
Scrapper -> Scoop
That last one alone would make it a big seller among IDW fans.

I'm more of a fan of the original Car Robots. After the HUGE disappointment that was Beast Machines, when I saw the design of the new toys in Japan, going back to vehicles,(at least for the Cybertrons) I was excited for Transformers again. Of course I had no idea that the anime would actually get dubbed in the U.S. (since the other series had never received an official release), so I was all in for Car Robots. I remember at BC 2000 in Ft Wayne trading my exclusive Apelinq & Shockaract for JRX & Baldigus sets (to me it was totaly worth it). I even got a VHS bootleg of the first 4 episodes, and was able to find (though primitive at the time), a streaming service where I could watch Car Robots episodes shortly after they aired in Japan. Of course when it was announced that CR would be dubbed in the U.S. as "Robots in Disguise" I was a bit skeptical. Of course it had its issues...but it was serviceable. To this day however I really enjoy watching Car Robots, and the toy line was excellent. unfortunately the next year when Armada came out, though the toy line had some memorable entries, the series was crap, and it would be another eight years before I could be excited about transformers on TV again.

I enjoyed it at the time, but when my local station stopped carrying Fox Kids I never finished it. Last episode I saw was the cliffhanger where Megatron becomes Galvatron. I have since "acquired" all of Car Robots AND RID but never gotten around to actually watching them. I did meet Neil Kaplan at the one and only Savcon a few years back, though.

Works for me.
There's also "Demolishor", but he's always been a Decepticon.
Come to think of it, there used to be a Micromaster simply named "Excavator." But again, Decepticon.
I guess they could recycle "Longarm", too.

That's cool. I like both versions about equally. The way I see it, Car Robots is the slightly superior version in which more things make more sense and which has the catchier music overall, while RiD has enough things in its version that I felt were either cool or funny enough to even things out with the original, and which did have a small amount things I did like better than in Car Robots (Dr. Onishi being more fatherly to his son in the dub than in the original, for one, or Cerebros's secret being technologically-based rather than Plasma's secret being more fantasy-based).o.supreme wrote:Sabrblade wrote:In light of this supposed UW Baldigus news, may I ask how many of ya'll here are fans of the RiD 2001 cartoon?

What I'm about the share also applies to fans of Car Robots as well.

The reason I ask is because, back in November 2015, I wrote up a big RiD/CR reference guide in the TF cartoon/comics forum section, but it kinda got lost in all the IDW comics talk of the time. With this new CR-related news, I figure now might be a good time to bring back some attention to it.King Kuuga wrote:I enjoyed it at the time, but when my local station stopped carrying Fox Kids I never finished it. I'm starting to think no choice of redeco is too out-there for the Unite Warriors line. Heck, they might end up giving us the G2 Protectobots if Hasbro decides that potential set's not profitable.

The only thing is that both of those are American-only concepts that have - as far as I know, at least - never existed in Japanese media. You have some examples of american-only fiction leaking into Japanese toylines recently in Straxus being not only released, but in a much more marvel-accurate colour scheme; and the Legends releases of Ultra Magnus, Brainstorm (UW-09, the voyager) and Skids being even more accurate to IDW than their Thrilling 30 counterparts. But full combiners? That's a difficult one. Maybe they can justify it with him being one of the Primes and G2 Defensor still, of course, being Defensor... but still.

How is Hasbro's Ruination different to Takara's Baldigus?
And just to let you know, Fun Pub no longer has the license, so only Hasbro would release Ruination in the west.

For some reason, Hasbro gave their figure a deco that looks nothing like the guy's cartoon colors.

Ah, coffee-milk tan.
I think Hasbro was making a misguided attempt at ramping up G1 nostalgia by giving Ruin a deco that was a compromise between Baldy and Bruty. While this unfortunately made the toy accurate to nothing, anyone who really wants a CWUTRID2001 Ruination could just Frankenstein it together from a spare Baldigus and G1 and G2 Brutici (plural?). Say, for that matter, UW Shuttler could be repurposed as the proper G2 Blastoff we didn't get...which could make the Slingshot repaint in the set repurposeable as Botcon Machine Wars CW Skywarp! Alllllllrighty then, I'm suddenly enthused about a set I could've cared less about when it was first teased in the Megatronia comic!
And in defense of Quantum Surge's KO question, because of Hasbro's Ruinationous deco decision, the only toys we've ever see the proper Baldigus deco on in the States are those knock-off giftsets that used to be all over Big Lots and other lower-rent retailers (I think I even saw a downsized one at Tuesday Morning last week), so he does make KOs spring to mind more than your average TF. But speculation is indeed best for a different thread.

Nah I totally feel it's a matter of if. Still, considering how enthusiastic they seem to be to use whatever new tooling the CW molds have - which for Takara, especially these days is extremely weird - I'd say that's a point in favour of them doing Liokaiser as likely.

I'm sorry to be the one to break this to you, but there's a big leap between "I liked watching this show" and "I am interested in knowing every single variation of a battle cry or transformation phrase from every single character and how often they were said." PRAISE BE TO TAKARA. ALL HAIL RUINATION.
Seriously though. I've never watched RID/CR but I might have to buy this. IIRC UW Bruticus suffered from QC issues so this would be the ideal substitute. Though I will say, I kinda wish he was available in US toy colours as well- sand blue Armourhide is something I really like for some reason.
