Is he really that anticipated? Seems like the people who actually like him (I'm one of them) are in the minority. Or maybe it's the complainers that are in the vocal minority? Seems like more people like the idea of the set (without Dezarus) than actually like it.

1.) He's the first modern reinterpretation of the most awesome G1 Combiner ever
2.) The original Liokaiser is hard to find
3.) One if his components, Killbison, suffers from Gold Plastic Syndrome
So yes, he is anticipated.

OK, but on the other hand...
1.) It's hardly an ideal interpretation lacking two key members (including the team leader!) and replaced by someone that wasn't part of the original team
2.) It's still a very obscure character for any casual fan, unlike the bulk of the CW teams making it a difficult sell.
3.) Hasbro CW figures aren't exactly substitutes for Japanese G1 figures.
Compared to the likes of the Technobots, Combaticons, and Sky Reign, to say nothing of the UW stuff coming out of Japan or the Titans Return, Legends, and Masterpiece stuff he seems a little low on the 2016 "OMG I NEED THAT!" list. Especially when so many people seem to be hoping for a sale before they buy it.

I'm excited and I hate victory. I can't stand anime and I can't get passed the 3rd episode but I'm looking forward to another Decepticon Combiner because they are greatly outnumbered in the official combiner department

I'm in a similar boat. I don't hate victory, I'm just indifferent to it, but wanted this set just for another decepticon combiner. The set is awesome though. The paint apps are excellent, the colors are really nice, and the headsculpts are amazing.

Deszaras was a member of the Breastforce. He just didn't combine with the others. Much like how Star Saber was a Brainmaster but also didn't combine with the other Brainmasters.Emerje wrote:1.) I'm not an anime fan, and hated Victory after a few episodes. But it does get better. Not great by any stretch, but it does get better.

The colors are gorgeous and I could care less the torso isn't Leozack and other guy. I'm not even looking at Dezarus being Deathsarus, to me he's Dezarus. He's a new character that I can give him his own backstory to. It's called an imagination. Had to to use it back in the 80s when all the toys were bricks so I can use it for this guy.

Since when does a different accessory count as a remold? Is Platinum predaking called a remold because he comes with a new sword? Come on, lets not get finicky here. Its the same mold with a new head and a different accessory.

While Brawl is my least favorite mold from CW, having 2 actually works pretty well here since you can make Liokaiser a little taller by leaving the back of the tanks in their normal vehicle positions instead of folding them to the underside of the tank for leg mode like on Bruticus. And those remolded heads are fantastic.
Another thing to note, I believe this is the first Hasbro combiner with mismatched HFG's. Black for the hands and silver for the feet.

Actually... due to the design of the ports on the drill, you can slap it on any which way
...it can attach facing backwards (a'la botcon ramhorn) or as shown in the official renders for Drillhorn.
And for anyone kidding themselves that TT will go the full extra mile for this set, remember, they've legitimized far weirder things with their pack-in comics, so Dezarus becoming a torso for a (possibly) deceased leozack isn't too far out of the realm of possibility
Posted by Kurona on November 4th, 2016 @ 11:25am CDT
I partly jest, but while nothing's out of the realm of possibility; I really wouldn't be counting on Takara to make them a six-member team just because they're known for accuracy. It's a completely different situation - it'd require whole new engineering for two deluxes to become a Voyager-sized torso, while the changes they made to the other combiners were still standard Scramble City, just with a new Combiner component thrown in and some remolding done elsewhere. Liokaiser's a very different case to giving Bruticus a shuttle for an arm.

You know what though, I am excited for LioKaiser because he is obscure. Is this the best verion of Dezaras? Not really, but the combiner form does all the right shapes for a LioKauser, even if Hasbro didnt paint him right. Would I prefer a Jallguar and Leozack chest? Absolutely. Would I be okay with seperate limbs of them? Sure!
Do I want a Leozack Superion? NO. Got enough of those, thank you.
Despite being repaints, I am quite looking forward to these guys. They are characters I don't have and have never experienced, but are actually meant to be combiners, and not just a "Lets make Sunstreaker a combiner guy abd then write a comic to justify it!" The head sculpts and Alt Modes land very well for 4 of them. I can repaint some Arms Microns to fill the niche, and they are cons, which at the start CW was rather outnumbered on.

I'd rather Liokaiser have the original 6 figures and Deathsaurus be a separate Leader class figure that has a robot mode. So here's to hopes that Takara's already on it and will get it right. Otherwise it's mostly another win for 3rd party companies and those who can afford the truer version.

For what it's worth, I listed Hasbro's Nosecone as a Brawl redeco due to the head, just with "alternate parts" or AP noted. Ironbison and Drillhorn are separated, because they each have a new head, but still same Brawl shell with Drillhorn having the AP, making them both retools of Brawl.
I still think Hasbro did well with Liokaiser with what they had available to work with.

I don't think TakaraTomy will go the easy route, most of the time it's all or nothing for them. The biggest problem I can think of is the size of the combiner pegs vs. the size of the figures. Leozack and Jallguar have to accommodate not just two ports each, but also separate connectors for eachother. If not done exactly right the whole will be an unstable mess.

Well, dont know if this makes it better or worse, but the rumour is 2017 will give us a Leader Deathsaurus. It makes perfect sense when you look at the theme of leaders coming out in 2017, which Hasbro confirmed was based on IDW. So thats another reason for me holding off on this toy.
JelZe GoldRabbit wrote:I don't think TakaraTomy will go the easy route, most of the time it's all or nothing for them.
I agree with that, hence why i think if those heads are used they will just make something random. Just curious, has TT used all the heads hasbro released so far except for Strafe?

Not necessarily - just the Phase Sixers. The versions of Soundwave and Blaster we've got so far in TR bear no relation or similarity to IDW; and Optimus certainly hasn't taken on his Powermaster form in the comics. So it's really just that they're going for a Phase Sixer theme with their cons, and Deathsaurus bears absolutely 0 relation to them other than fighting alongside Overlord briefly in DOTL. If the rumours are true - and I bet, if anything, he'd be a pretool of someone - it won't be because he appeared in IDW.

Not counting FunPub's newly sculpted heads and uses of built-in heads (Counterpunch, Toxitron, Reflector), Air Raid Strafe is the only one unused, next to Legends Wreck-Gar. Don't know who it can be used for, if they decide to use him at all.

Except that the pattern of discoloration is odd...not sure how it happened. This is in addition to one side of the box being rather dinged up, but I could live with that. If we're gonna count Japanese releases, Megatronia makes number 5 for the 'cons. The only Combiner to switch factions between markets.
And Liokaiser using two Brawls isn't so bad once you take into account Air Raid is a reshell of Skydive.

It may have debuted with Ramhorn, but it originated from Hasbro for CW Nosecone. And it's still a tooling difference between the Nosecone version of the mold that Drillhorn uses and the original Brawl version of the mold that Killbison Ironbison uses.Sammythekat wrote:Sabrblade wrote:Drillhorn's drill?william-james88 wrote:DeathReviews wrote:TWO Brawl remolds in this one??

It's not just the people talking on here though. If you look at the top stories, it is quite a different story. Liokaiser has consistently made our top viewed stories, same goes for movie stories and MP Shattered Glass Prime (every story with him has made Top 3). Just because the people who actually write on here say they won't get it doesn't mean there are a ton of other people who look at the main page and then decide to buy it
