A small update on the previous in-hand images of Generations Roadbuster, we have additional images of the Autobot Wrecker, courtesy of Pax Cybertron via Facebook! Through these additional images, we get a nice look at how each of his weapons interact with him in both modes. According to Pax Cybertron, several in-hand images of Roadbuster's wave-mate, Sky-Byte, will be posted tomorrow as well. Check out the images below!

That big gun configuration looks nice.

Hollow guns? Oh man. Hasbro is really cutting back. Does he come with a missile? Looks like the missile launcher can fit one.

Roadbuster looks really nice, but I'm really looking forward to pictures of Sky-byte.

Doesn't he seem a little short for a Stormtrooper?

Badass.. The more I see of him the more I want him.

Gosh the more I see Roadbuster, I really, really want him. (Maybe I need him.) :BANG_HEAD: Though I also want to see Sky-Byte and Brainstorm.

The color saturation is strong with this one.
Still a great looking mold though.

That head sculpt reminds me a lot of a Zaku. From Gundam design. Not an expert just an observation. The Darth Vader reference is somewhat accurate too. And Samus. I think I like my 3rd party version better. Cost doesn't compare though so this is a good option, and looks good enough.

Ah, cool, thanks for getting these up here. Yeah, a lot of them are from my instragram feed, hence the filters. I'm working on the video review right now, so that should be up soon.

He does come with a missile. I just hadn't put it back in when shooting these.

He's a great toy. I'm really enamored with him. Hasbro's doing a great job of stepping up the game.

The hollow weapons are due to the "customizing" aspect of how they interlock.

Looking forward to this and Skybyte. Well come to think of it there are a lot of figures I can't wait to own.

Glad I was right about the modular nature of the weapons. Wouldn't mind seeing this guy as a Constructbot.

If I remember correctly, I believe he is supposed to come with a decal sheet similar to how Whirl did so I would imagine that is why he hoesn't have an Autobot logo straight out of the box.

Roadbuster has always been a favorite. I can't wait for him. I love this sculpt, Hasbro really hit it out of the park with him and whirl. I'd love to see a Broadside triple changer but that fansproject one would work nicely too. I love the pics of Gel Shark too, gonna pick him up. More Car Robots toys!!! I'm kind of torn though. I'm thinking of selling my movie toys but there are some that are just really cool. Maybe I'll just keep the ones that are in the movie... but then Hasbro screwed us over with DoTM with Que, Soundwave, and Leadfoot. SIGH.

Once again, thanks to Pax Cybertron, we have a video review of the soon-to-be-released Generations Roadbuster! Pax Cybertron goes in-depth with Roadbuster, showing off the articulation, weaponry, sticker sheet, size comparison, and how to transform him. The video review has been mirrored below for your convenience.

Aw man, is he really shorter than Springer and Whirl? :-(
Re: Additional In-hand Images of Generations Voyager Roadbuster (1587456)
Posted by reluctantyouth on July 2nd, 2014 @ 3:51pm CDT
Thanks for the in depth review. Springer is the best of the three for sure. I will probably pick this guy up but avoid Sky Byte. I do like the stickers and the effectiveness of the simplistic transformation. This doesn't scream $24.99 to me though or whatever the heck Walmart will be charging by the time I see him here in Central Illinois. I doubt I will find him if I try to wait. I was hoping Hasbro would have some new pre orders up during the summer no shipping charge promo...maybe they have learned not to do that.

Kick ass! I'm super glad his clown shoes were only the result of Hasbro's hilariously inept photographer.

At first I was kinda bummed that he lacks the serious bulk that Roadbuster has had in the comics, but the athletic look is growing on me.

Anybody know how this matches up to the original toy or the CMS corp version?

Does Takara have any plans to release Roadbuster or Whirl?

So far, there are none as those characters. The closest Whirl is getting to Japan is being redecoed as Shockwave for their Cloud line.

Could there be issues with the figures releases as Roadbuster and Whirl due to the fact the original toys were made by another company... who I believe is now owned by Tomy so never mind unless I'm wrong about the Tomy thing.

The original toys of Whirl and Roadbuster were originally licensed to Hasbro by Takatoku Toys, which is owned by Bandai, a major competitor of Takara Tomy's in Japan. Releasing any of these guys as their intended characters could probably mean some serious trouble.

I forgot Bandai owned them. Snatched them up after Devorak tanked just for Macross probably.

@ Mindmaster

If that's the case, how come these two were released as Roadbuster?

Maybe Bandai won't go bonkers like Harmony Gold?

I sure hope somewhere down the road, they get the Tomy paint treatment. And a 3rd party battle armor pack.

Just released in my neck of the woods. Asia north of the Equator. What sucks (just got mine) is that it's just 2 units per box together with Skybite in Toys R Us...........

Verrrrrry limited.

Whirl and Roadbuster aren't the only Genertions toys Takara hasn't released.

None of the following got released by Takara:
  • FOC Impactor
  • FOC Twintwist
  • FOC Autobot Topspin
  • FOC Roadbuster
  • FOC Autobot Whirl
  • Swerve & Flanker
  • Autobot Cosmos & Payload
  • Skrapnel & Reflector
  • Tailgate & Groundbuster
  • Dreadwing
  • Autobot Skids
  • Goldfire (the new tooling for this mold, that is)
  • Autobot Scoop
  • Tankor
  • Decepticon Doubledealer (aside from Cloud Starscream)
Rattrap is getting a release in the Legends line, and other figures haven't come out yet. But Japan's Generations line is over.

^ Yikes, you're right, the list is that long now. Some of that stuff I can see them not touching, but things like Skids still not even scheduled for release (that we know of) is surprising.

If you mind, would you provide us with photographic evidence (the figure itself plus the receipt), as well as where you got it, so we can report it on the front page? You can either submit it in this thread, or alert us at news@seibertron.com ;)

@ Mindmaster

I'm uploading a scan of the TRU receipt and picture. Its costs xcurrency equivalent of $ 34.90

The TRU coding only identifies him as a "Voyager". Purchased 07/03/2014

Image

Image

Btw, here is my take on him

"Roadbuster love!

Image

Great face sculpt based on art by Guido Guidi from AHM. Original Mugen Calibur(classic design) looks stiff and bulky, this version more proportional macho (in human terms)

About issues with paint mentioned by another poster, correct......right on! Trouble is, the lower ankle is kind of hidden by the die-cut art of the packaging as mine has some slight paint issues.

His sniper rifle is AMAZING! the modular nature is genius.

His rocket launcher has some issues......it keeps on launching prematurely

Ratcheted joints on the shoulders! Static wrist (acceptable) at least we won't have the Wreck-gar thumb syndrome because he's got closed but very detailed mecha fists.

You "can" adjust his feet so as not to appear to spindly.(Thanks to the youtube tip)

Last.....I love the transparent decals ala Takatoku 1980 style. But there is one issue I have with it. The font's letters should have used white color instead of black for some areas to enhanced its effects. It works well on Whirl because he is light blue but on Roadbuster, who's got a lot of green and brown, you'll be hard pressed to see them.

He has an alternate Wrecker sigil........kick @ss!

Good thing I waited for this instead of the FP version. Maybe that fig's price will start dropping like a hot potato lol!

In a scale of 1 to 5...........he gets a 4."
