If you're referring to Peaugh's review of the "Dual Model" model kit of Optimus Prime made by Takara, it's not the same as this action figure, which is made by Kaiyodo and the release date of this figure is September 2011.

Revoltech? No way, they do have interchanging parts, mostly hands and weapons.

Uh... have you seen the value of the USD nowadays? Back in 2009, we were getting 96Y per dollar and in 2007 it was 122Y per dollar.
... today, we're getting 80Y. So something that cost about 3000Y in 2007 was $24.50 USD. Now, that same thing is $37.50. So, take that into account, plus these have more accessories and probably are a higher price point than the normal revoltech figs. AND, then add vendor markup for importing them (unless you buy them direct from JP).
EDIT: I just checked AmiAmi and he's going for 2850Y, so about $35 direct. Most other revoltechs run 1700-2200 ($21-27). If the dollar was better (2007 value for him would have been $24), I'm sure this would be a pretty reasonable figure - but when you see $55, take a deeper look at where that comes from.

I'm in Canada, the USD value should be irrelevant, but considering we usually have to go through US sites, I guess it's not. I think the actual Yen prices of things is getting higher though, each MP toy seems to get more and more expensive.
As for more accessories, the originial Macross Valkyries had a gun, boosters and at least 4 different hands. Hot Rodimus had two guns, an assortment of hands, and two heads. Unless this Prime includes more than just a bunch of guns and hands, I don't think the higher price point is really justified. It just seems to be a simple matter of prices going up.

I checked the CAD to JPY rates and they were also about 115Y back on 2007 but 2009 and now they're both about 80-85. So if you did have a CA based vendor buying them from Japan, they'd probably be the same price. I'm not saying it's the only reason but it's the primary one.
Revoltech Megatron & Prime went for about 1,995 Yen in 2007. Movie Prime is about 3,800 but AmiAmi's price is 2,850. Most all of the SciFi line is coming out higher priced - Jack Sparrow, T-Rex, etc - so it is a raise in cost on top of the bad currency conversion.
But like I said, with 2007's value of the dollar (either dollar) he's only $24 direct from japan so if a US vendor marked him up to $35-40, you probably wouldn't have been as shocked as you are with seeing $55.

Rhinox23 wrote:I have a basic (and probably dumb) question. Is this Revoltech Optimus Prime a model that you have to build? Or is it basically a posable statute? Just curious because I think it looks pretty sweet, but if I have to build it myself I don't think it would look as good as the pics here. Thanks for your help!
It's basically a super-articulated action figure like the Max Factory's Figma line, or SIC Figuarts Kamen Rider figs. No assembly is required, but you do have to switch hands and weapons depending on the poses or situations.
The one you have to build is the Takara Dual Model Kit, but even that one isn't that big of a deal, as the inner frame has been pre-built. That said, Peaugh was quoted saying it took him about six hours to fully assemble the armor.

I agree, I collect Evangelion Revoltechs and their amount of accessories really put this one to shame.
Example, my most recent purchase was EVA 02- The Beast for $40. It came with about twelve hands, an alternate arm, special effects like breaking AT fields and dust clouds and "slashes of wind" to make it look like its scratching, spraying blood to recreate battle scenes, an alternate stand to pose it jumping high and I've probably forgotten some others.
This Optimus is not nearly as good as the standard Evangelion revoltech, which makes this price point very frustrating. I mean, where's his axe? or his hooks? It doesn't even come with two swords or his DOTM blaster and its got barely any hands as well, its a total downgrade.
