I can't say there are ANY of the Henkei versions that I prefer of the Classics versions. Maybe Starscream, but that is it. These ones just look boring, not even garish like the first wave.Dead Metal wrote:I actually prefer the Hasbro versions over these.

Yea, I've gotta agree.
I like the Jetfire, bit not more than the one I've got, and I prefer the US Ramjet.
That said, my Astrotrain is in at BBTS, pile-o-loot here I come!

I also wonder where's the chrome. It looks like there might be alittle chrome gold on Ramjets shoulder sections - the two sections by where the jets nosecone would be.

May have to get that one.
I've never been a fan of Jetfire... Don't even know why.
Maybe this summer I'll get one though, I'll have to wait and see how much Animated is draining my account.

Good eye: Skyfire's chrome is on his jetpack/booster engines (his missiles look like transparent material to me). Ramjet's is on the very back of his tailfins/vertical stabilizers.

Still, I cant afford to re-buy all these toys so I’ll just get the ones I missed the first go around.
Hoping to see some pics of Henkei Sunstreaker and Prowl soon…

The head does look more show accurate. Does Skyfire seem to have less red on his alt mode? His tailfins and nosecone look very plain.
I am not sure if I like Classics or Henkei Ramjet better. Henkei is more show accurate. But the red on Classics seems to be a bit darker

The red on classics isn’t really even red, its more of an rust color. Which is why I prefer this version.

They certainly aren't bad re-deco's its just that they are not different enough to warrant a purchase.

What they said. Unless something comes along and WOWs me, outside of AstroTrain I'm passing on all these.

I'd buy him now but I'd rather pay down my credit card a touch more before putting anything else on it.
Yay being a student!

In my case, I already own the Classics Jetfire and love it, so the Henkei version doesn't have enough differences to warrant a purchase. I actually prefer the colors of the Hasbro version. If I hadn't already purchased a version of this figure I'd be all for it.

Okay, shoot me if you must, but I can't see a "huge" difference between Classics and Henkei Jet/Skyfire.
Care to explain the differences to me?

I don't like the latest animated series because of the freaky designs but am willing to give the Voyager Optimus a second look if he is a worthy purchase.
It is a matter of preference. Me. I've got one of the first releases of Jetfire and am stoked as hell to get Skyfire (and what's this critique on the chrome? They look great but still, its just a pic, the proof in the pie is the eating)
I've noticed several opinions downgrading the Henkei stuff but the self same individuals don't actually own one one. How come? If you can't afford the purchase, then don't get one.Stop calling the units this and that.
You can only criticize a product if you actually OWN one and not base it on some notion that I prefer Hasbro or Takara.

I'd say you're almost right. I can easily criticize a book without owning it, by having read parts of it.
I can criticize a car based on reviews of fuel consumption, safety standards etc.
I can say I'm not fond of the Wii because I've played it many times and truly am not fond of it.
I don't NEED to own something to decide whether or not I like it, or the way it looks.

Okay, now I'm interested in buying it. My Classics one broke an antler off of the helmet anyway.
Ramjet is a maybe if I find it at a 'con or something but not without seeing more of it.

I would possess it, but not likely to buy it myself.

A majority here will say Ohhhhhhh I won't get Henkei or Ohhhh I won't get Classics when they haven't even handled one. Me, I probably am lucky that I have a pal who owns a toy store, so I can like hold a toy first before I criticize.
A bunch here will just yap and say this when they even haven't actually handled one or just can't afford it. A true collector will find a way..............
Heck next, we'll be getting Omega Supreme sucks, he ain't articulated blah, blah, blah

Not articulated?? He could WALK for pete's sake!!!
Now, it's true that we base most of our opinions of things we don't own on first impressions. We all do it. It's part of the human condition. But the only way to change opinions is through exposure to the item in question. So far all we have is a couple of bad pictures and a price tag. The question is two fold: do the pics justify the price and is the price worth replacing what I already have/ what is already available to me. Ramjet, based on the pics and the price tag plus the fact that I already own one, is not worth the price at this time. Skyfire is, based on design changes and the personal fact that mine is broken.
No need to get snarky (either of you) or make this personal.

Oh, I am. I really want Henkei Astrotrain. He's gorgeous looking and I always prefrered the Cartoon colours to the white ones.
Posted by fenrir72 on May 1st, 2008 @ 5:09am CDT
It will all boil down to personal preference but just give the line a chance.
It isn't the first time that the japanese version tend to suck (not always) but more often than not is presented better.
Superlink had brighter colors but no batteries (suck)
Grand Convoy was obese (and no electronics) (also sucked) but had IMHO better colors
Sonic Bomber a mishapened visor (suck)
Now we have an opportunity to own "improved(okay that is a matter of opinion) versions, some imperfections corrected though Grimlock in this case won't lock up properly thanks to the chrome.
We're gonna be expecting the Seekers, the Italian brothers and Galvatron among others, so it will be a good year for us collectors, just that, some may prefer the Henkei over the US so either give each line a chance or just say nothing at all.

Yeah, thats what I was talking about it even has the gun Skyfire had on the show. This figure has been designed for the fans who have wanted a Skyfire toy for the last 20 years. Here are a couple of pics to compare it to the G1 episode "Fire in the sky":
