Courtesy of the TFNation HQ, we have another guest update for their third fan convention taking place this summer in Birmingham, UK, on 17-19 August - and it's none other than IDW Publishing Transformers comics artist Alex Milne! Read more below, and book your tickets now.

Operation: The Art Bringer

Another returning guest to the 2018 edition of TFNation is the fan-beloved artist from the big cold white North, Alex Milne!

Milne has been working as a creator for Transformers since the days of Devil’s Due Press’ GI Joe vs the Transformers, various collaborations with Fun Publications and eventually moving to regular, serialised work with Dreamwave and IDW Publishing. As the regular co-creator on Transformer: More Than Meets the Eye, Milne has rendered hearts and tears in painstaking detail, bringing some of the more expressive robot faceplates to the pages of comics.

Alongside and after MTMTE, Milne has provided covers for a range of IDW Publishing comics, Transformers and elsewhere, as well as providing interior art for an issue of Transformers: Lost Light. His most recent collaboration saw him partner once more with writer John Barber (and Christos Gage) on the prequel mini-series Rom vs The Transformers: Shining Armor - but the perhaps bigger news is his presence as artist for the upcoming Unicron: Darkest Hour #0 Free Comic Book Day issue due in May 2018.

Alex Milne will be signing autographs, selling artwork, and attempting to complete commissions at TFNation 2018, as he is always in extremely high demand.

The actress and singer Lianne Marie Dobbs announced on Instagram that she has been recording her episodes already, which also suggests the cast will not be doing ensemble direction but separate recording sessions then mixed in production and post-production. Check out the image and comment below, and let us know what you think in the Energon Pub!

While most of us feel like we're still recovering from the last Transformers Machinima animated show, Titans Return, it is almost time to jump down the rabbit hole again with the upcoming show Power of the Primes. It's because of this that the voice actor for Megatron in Combiner Wars, Titans Return, and POTP, Jason Marnocha, who is widely praised for being one of the highlights of the Trilogy, has started teasing POTP's premier.
Coming fresh from his twitter account, he's shared an image of Megatron with the new Power of the Primes title graphic, accompanied by his caption of "Soon. Soooooooon..." (It's also worth noting that the poster sports a shiny new Machinima logo, as well.) Check out the image mirrored from his twitter below, and let us know if you'll be tuning in to Power of the Primes when it premiers sometime later this year. It'll feature big new names like Mark Hamill, Ron Perlman, and Greg Berger!

It's been a little while since we've heard any major news about the upcoming Bumblebee stand alone film, but we do have a couple stories to bring you today. First, we have one of the first outside opinions on the main plot of Bumblebee, from screenwriter Steven DeKnight. Coming as a snippet of an interview from entertainment website Uproxx for his upcoming film Pacific Rim: Uprising, he shares that the story they used for the Transformers spin off was his favorite to come out of the Transformers screenwriting room that was arranged last year by Michael Bay and Paramount. Check out the Transformers-related section of the interview below.

Our second Bumblebee story is a bit of a rumor in conjunction with a recent announcement from Paramount themselves. It's been said recently (notably by reviewer and journalist Manabyte (Or Jeremy Conrad) that Paramount is planning to do an early screening of the Bumblebee movie sometime very soon, and that info collides with the announcement that this year's Wondercon Anaheim will be the backdrop to the first screening of a secret Paramount film. There are several Paramount movies coming out this year, and nothing in particular points to the Bumblebee movie being the secret screening, but there is a chance. Either way, we'll find out this Friday!

Uproxx: You were part of the Transformers writers’ room. I’m so curious: What’s a Transformers writing room like?

Steven DeKnight: It was a blast.

Uproxx: I imagine.

Steven DeKnight: It was a room full of incredibly talented, interesting, really wonderful people. I’ve got to say, my time spent in there was just, more than anything, was just so much fun. Everyone was so much fun and interesting. And we actually wrote, I think it was, I want to say 12 different movies. Every one of us took a different idea and developed it into like a full 30-page outline, so there were like 12 movies. And also, in complete honesty, my absolute favorite movie of the bunch was the Bumblebee movie that they’re making right now.

Uproxx: I’ve heard good things about it.

Steven DeKnight: The idea was fantastic.

TFNation headquarters has sent out another announcement about their guests for this summer's 2018 edition of the UK fan Transformers convention, and in the spirit of the 'lesser known' franchises being celebrated, they secured none other than the voice of Megatron from Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001)! Check out more info below.

Operation: A Handful of Voices

The second voice actor that TFNation is proud to present for 2018 hails from the land of the early 2000s, and the series that some will argue is called Car Robots, when we all really know it as Robots in Disguise (2001) - please join us in welcoming the man behind Megatron, leader of the Predacons: Daniel Riordan!

As well as voicing the purple leader Megatron, Daniel remained at the mic for the gold and white upgrade Galvatron, and is so far the only voice actor famous for lending his talents to a robot, jet, bat, two-headed dragon, giant flying hand, roadster, winged griffin, one-headed dragon, hydroplane, and an elephant, all while only really voicing the same character.

In a fun twist, he also voiced Omega Prime, the combined form of Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus and leader of the Autobot side, opponent and eventual vanquisher of Galvatron in the final episode of the series.

In other Transformers appearances you may recognise, Daniel was behind the 2007 videogame based on the Paramount live-action series, and specifically, the Decepticon characters of Bonecrusher and Shockwave. He has also been involved in several videogame franchises as secondary and additional character voices, with the likes of Final Fantasy XIII, Mass Effect III, Age of Empires III, Skyrim, and more.

On screen, both big and small, he is well known for his roles in Dreamgirls, Jingle All The Way, The Adventures of Captain Zoom in Outer Space, and a brief presence in Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Wild Thornberrys.

Daniel Riordan will be present all of the TFNation 2018 weekend, signing autographs, available for quick photo opportunities, and eager to meet fans of his work and of Transformers in general!

There has been a lot of buzz over at IDW Publishing recently, with Transformers comics creators teasing some big news, then the New York Toy Fair 2018 Brand team dropping the 'wrapping up continuities' comment, and fans and readers speculating on what this might mean for the stories currently being told - and this piece does not feed into it at all, but does have some fairly big repercussions on the current era of the IDWverse: EIC Chris Ryall is stepping down, and leaving the publisher altogether.

The announcement comes from his own social media accounts after the news leaked out, and was then reported and covered by several comics news outlets such as Comics Beat - see below - and other creators thanking Ryall for his work with the publisher since 2004. For Transformers specifically, Ryall was in charge of pretty much the whole run up to All Hail Megatron, responses to letter columns, co-wrote Rom the Spaceknight into the Revolution event, and may or may not have been Alternators Windcharger all along.

We do not know what this change will mean for the IDW output, their stories, and the Transformers events specifically, but the various encounters that Seibertron.com has had with Ryall have been good, entertaining, professional, and we wish him all the best in his future ventures.

Transformers News: IDW Publishing EIC Chris Ryall To Step Down

I've been trying to reply to the outpouring of well-wishes and amazing sentiments from so many of you but I'm finding I can't keep up with all of them and I'm pretty spent after a very emotional day. Hard to leave such amazing people as there are at IDW and throughout the creative community. I'll soon try to properly sum up how it feels leaving IDW after 14 years but for now, I'm going to shut it all off and just breathe a little. But thank you all--I wish I'd had some way and enough time to convey to everyone I've worked with who's meant so much to me and made such an indelible mark on me how special all of this time has been. But know that it's implied and deeply felt. This article has a partial (not intended for public consumption) statement from me:

A lot of changes suddenly at comics companies all over. I’ve just learned that Chris Ryall, formerly Chief Creative officer and Editor-in-Chief at IDW, has stepped down.

The move is entirely of his own volition, I’m told.

Ryall joined IDW in June of 2004, and oversaw its steady growth in both licensed comics and originals, as well as writing titles including Zombies vs Robots, Groom Lake, The Hollows, The Colonized, and Onyx, and licensed titles including Transformers.

Ryall wrote a farewell email to staff which included the following:

Through it all—through the deadline craziness, market fluctuations, assorted business challenges, social-media storms, new faces, new projects, and new challenges—it’s all served as a constant reminder how lucky I’ve been to contribute to this industry that I love so much. And I plan to keep making contributions outside these walls. But for now, I’m stepping aside to take a break, get off the never-ending-deadline train and see what new challenge makes the most sense as my next move. It might seem short at times, but 14 years is a long time to do anything — I’ve certainly never done anything else in my life for this amount of time.
There’s not enough time or space to catalog the various successes that have happened here in that time and really, there’s no need — they’ve all been parts of a whole that has made this place such a thrill to work at for as long as I have. The successes and fun vastly outweighed the stresses, which is really a testament to the place that Ted and Robbie and company built in the first place. I’m appreciative as can be for all the opportunities IDW has afforded me. It’s just time to figure out my next move, that’s all.
I remain excited about comics, about creating, and about giving people good reasons to keep reading and, separately, about seeing everything IDW is going to do next. I first noticed IDW’s books in its earliest days, impressed by the care and uniqueness that those early titles offered, so it’s been a thrill to join all of you to build things out in an even bigger way. And I look forward to once again being able to experience IDW’s output with a fresh eye.

While his next move isn’t yet known, as shown by the above, Ryall seems to want to stay in the comics biz. As shown by his words, Ryall is known as a classy, even tempered executive, and I don’t doubt that he’ll have many opportunities in front of him.

This is the latest of a strong of changes at IDW. Recently co-founder Ted Adams moved from publisher to CEO, while Greg Goldstein moved into the Publisher position. PR manager Steven Scott also recently left the company.

Developing.
