Thanks to our very own Hotrod, Seibertron.com has an exclusive interview with Steve White. Mr. White was originally a colorist for the first UK Transformers comics produced by Marvel. He is now heavily involved with the creation of a brand new Transformers comic series being released by Titan Books for the United Kingdom market. It was only right for us to pick his brain on the subject.

To see what he had to say, take a look at the interview.

Yesterday we reported here as a rumor that there would be a new United Kingdom Transformers comic to be published by Titan Books. We are happy to report that it is no longer a rumor. In fact Denyer has brought us word of some updates by Steve White made at Transfans.net. Here is the update:

A few titbits of interest. Andy Wildman and Nick Roche have joined the artist ranks.

Also, the first free gift (if that's your thang) will be TF dogtags - Autobot and Decepticon. FYI, first issue goes on sale 19th July.

Had a truly massive (and surprisingly) international response to my posting, which I'm very pleased about. Anybody sending in art or letters to my email address - can you mark it FAN ART please.

Denyer has brought us what could be some interesting news. A poster by the name of Steve White has posted some curious information at Transfans.net. According to Steve White Titan Books will begin publishing a Transformers comic in the United Kingdom. Here is what Steve White posted:

:
Hi there. My name is Steve White. I'm going to be editing the new TF comic in the UK, due out from Titan in July to coincide with the movie release. We're working pretty far ahead and what I was hoping for was readers letters/artwork that we can run in the first couple of issues, which will be wrapped before the first one actually hits the streets. Any help gratefully received. Email me at steve.white@titanemail.com

:
The comic will be mostly movie continuity, serialising the IDW prequel material. However, we will be originating our 10-page strips, written by Si Furman. We have various artists lined up; first issue should see the return of Geoff Senior whose keen to have a go for old time's sake. That's TBC but looks pretty solid.

These seems to have some legitimacy since the poster uses the domain Titan Books uses for contact.

The Eagle Awards is taking nominations for the 2007 Eagle Awards. The winners will be announced at the Bristol International Comic Expo on Saturday, May 12, 2007 at the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Bristol. Nominees should be choosen based on the work they did in 2006. Several Transformers comic writers and artist are up for nominations. So go vote by clicking here. Here is some information about the Eagle Awards:

"The Eagle Awards are the name given to a series of awards for comic book titles and creators. They are awarded by UK fans who vote for who they feel are the best in each category of the awards.
They are named after the fondly remembered 1950s comic title Eagle and originated in 1976 thanks to two British fans, Mike Conroy (now part of the staff of Comics International) and Richard Burton. British comic fandom at this time was still relatively small but the awards proved to be successful, especially with American publishers such as Marvel Comics who would announce their victories with pride. X-Men was one title which regularly gathered handfuls of awards, mainly for its writing and art during the Chris Claremont and John Byrne era.

It wasn't until Britain had a regular annual comic convention (the United Kingdom Comic Art Convention, commonly shortened to UKCAC) in 1986 that the awards became a regular event. During this time creators such as Alan Moore and Alan Davis would win awards while characters such as Batman were always firm fan-favourites.

The awards did disappear for a time, replaced briefly with the National Comics Award, in 2000 they returned as an event at that years Comic Festival (which had replaced UKCAC) presented by Simon Pegg.

They are now part of the current UK comic event, the Comic Expo."

The Official Transformers Club has made it official. In an official press release, Hasbro announces that IDW Publishing will be releasing new comics for the Transformers brand. The follow is a direct quote from the press release;

PAWTUCKET, R.I. (May 19, 2005) – The Hasbro Properties Group (HPG), the intellectual property development arm of Hasbro, Inc. (NYSE: HAS), intends to license its popular TRANSFORMERS brand to IDW Publishing for the introduction of a new line of TRANSFORMERS comic books. Adding to the successful TRANSFORMERS comic book library that currently includes more than 30 titles, IDW will re-launch a much-anticipated new line of TRANSFORMERS comics. The first comic, a special introductory “0” issue, would debut in October 2005. The next comic in the series would debut in January 2006. The comic books are expected to include the classic Generation One (G1) storyline, as well as new plotlines and new series, and would be distributed to a wider audience through comic book outlets, trade bookstores and mass retailers.

“This year, the TRANSFORMERS property will gain greater exposure among both core supporters and new fans of the brand, as the comics are distributed at mass market for the first time,” said Tom Klusaritz, vice-president of global publishing for the Hasbro Properties Group. “We’re excited that IDW plans to publish the TRANSFORMERS comics, as well as expand upon the storyline by utilizing the best TRANSFORMERS writers and illustrators globally.”

IDW Publishing, the publishing arm of Idea and Design Works, LLC, is the comic book licensee of several popular shows, such as CSI (CBS), 24 (FOX), and ANGEL (Fox). IDW is also home to successful adaptations of comics based on the Konami videogames Metal Gear Solid and Castlevania, and movie adaptations from Dawn of the Dead to Shaun of the Dead. In both 2004 and 2005, they were awarded Diamond Comics’ Gem Award for “Publisher of the Year.” For the TRANSFORMERS series, IDW plans on using a mix of well-known and up-and-coming illustrators, inkers and writers to bring the property to new heights.

“The TRANSFORMERS brand is a great addition to IDW’s line of licensed comic books, and we look forward to expanding on an extremely successful property and returning TRANSFORMERS comics to a still-anxious marketplace,” said Ted Adams, President/Publisher of IDW Publishing.

The first TRANSFORMERS comic books were introduced to fans of the toy line more than two decades ago. In 2002, HPG re-launched the TRANSFORMERS comic book series.

MORE ABOUT TRANSFORMERS LICENSES IN 2005
TRANSFORMERS, a favorite among kids and collectors alike, has much to celebrate in 2005, starting with the brand’s leap to the big screen for its first, worldwide live-action film, slated for release in fall 2006. DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures will develop the movie, with Steven Spielberg as Executive Producer. The film will bridge all aspects of the TRANSFORMERS brand, from toys to licensed merchandise.

In addition to the pending IDW arrangement, TRANSFORMERS will be available in Readers Digest hard books and chapter books, as well as a series of Dorling Kindersley children’s books available in the United States. Fans in Europe can enjoy TRANSFORMERS books from Egmont, Red Bird, Titan, Edigamma and Panini.

The TRANSFORMERS brand will continue to expand in 2005 as Paramount Home Entertainment releases three DVDs. The first two, released in February, are “Transformers: Omega Supreme” and “Transformers: Shockblast Unleashed!.” The third DVD, yet untitled, will be released in September.
