The Goo Goo Dolls will be featuring a love song for the Transformers Movie, which comes out this summer. Artisan News Service interviewed the lead singer, Johnny Rzeznik and he had this to say:

"Actually we just finished recording a song for the Transformers film, which is coming out the 4th of July. I think we're going to work that one.”

He was asked about how the band got the opportunity to record the song.

"Michael Bay and Lorenzo from the film, they approached my manager about getting me in there to do it. It's sort of the love theme, of course. That's what everybody wants from me. I'm more than happy to oblige. It's an awesome movie."

Yeah, Stan Bush was working on one too, let's hope hemakes the cut also!

A lot of blockbusters combine the theatrical score with pop songs these days, heck even going back to that nonsense Back to the Future... Spiderman 1 & 2, Godzilla (eurgh, lol) - Is more merchandise for us to lap up! ;;)

I wouldn't call Goo Goo Dolls pop.

Why not? They're a popular band, they've had chart hits. That makes them pop, surely.

Just like Armageddon, a crappy balad to sell soundtracks. Well, it will make them money I am sure.

But at what cost to the fans?

I don't want a human love story in there! I want chaos, destruction, violence, carnage, metal twisted and snapped. I want millions of years of struggle between two factions of the same robot race--I want HISTORY. I want a war with giant transforming robots, damnit!

Okay, I am better now. Where is the Zoloft?

Have not listened to the Goo Goo Dolls in several years. So, it intrigues me as to what song they recorded. I need to brush up on their music to understand them better and to determine whether I like that idea or not.

This does not bode well for the soundtrack.

I would. Everything I remember them doing was pop.

What was wrong with Back To The Future?

Kinda intrigued by this, but hey, it shouldn't really matter to the fans, I mean, did that god-awful song for Spider-Man 1 ever have a noticable negative effect on the franchise, or the fans? I think not.

weird... I would think this is mainly for Bumblebee's "radio", but I could be wrong and they are doing a soundtrack after all..?

It's a summer blockbuster. All of them have a soundtrack filled with crap released into stores. Spider-Man has one for every movie and most of the songs are never even heard in the movie.

Oh good, I was just getting the lyrics to "Iris" out of my head and now a new infectious Goo Goo Dolls is about to be released and will no doubt be overplayed everywhere and burned into my brain.

Just remember, there's probably going to be a soundtrack AND a score. Be sure to ask at the record store if you don't see the latter; it's what I had to do to get the score for Robots.

I misread the "Goo Goo" part and thought it said "Coo Coo" instead! I could just imagine the Cocoa Puffs crow saying "I'm Coo Coo for Autobots" or some marketing nonsense like that....

Same here. Took me a minute to realize what it was parodying though.
