Custom Polish Pride Optimus Prime
(Fifa World Cup 2018)

Today I would like to present to you my latest custom. Because football season is on, my custom perfectly fits this time of joy, competitiveness and cheering for your team. I thought that I will probably not find a better opportunity to share with you a very meaningful model of mine. before I start, I will give you a short summary of how this figure was born.




This year me and my friends have decided to show some of our figures (for the third time) during biggest fantasy/ comic book/ gaming and all around geek convention in Poland - Pyrkon.

I wanted to do somethig more than just present some figures. That's why we teamed-up with Polish Hasbro and got their blessing to organise first official Transformers meetpoint. I was also able to bring one of the convention stars - Jon Bailey - to our booth for an interview. To thank him I wanted to give him something special that will remind him of his visit to Poland. Jon was the first Transformers Voice actor to meet with Polish fandom and I thought, what would be better to give first Optimus to visit Poland than his own Polish Optimus?

That is how the idea came to my head. New paint scheme of Optimus was inspired by colours of Polish flag and smokestacks resembling Hussars wings were an added bonus.
Hussars were known as a medieval heavy cavalry and were extremely effective. The secret was in wings worn by knights. Those were metal, had some feathers and were making a lot of noise when unit was galloping, which startled horses that were not accustomed to it. Add some heavy armor and you basically have a medieval equivalent of tank. Sorry for the offtop, but I thought this extra knowledge will add a little flavour to watching my custom

Optimus was fully repainted. I added some small painted details and chrome rims to give him a bit more depth. When the figure was done I have applied pearlasent clearcoat to give it even more shine.

Another piece of inspiration for this custom concerns facepaint. I was influenced by way sports fans paint their faces for the matches of their team. I believe it turned out really well and it is also a connection to abovementioned sport event:)

Back of the figure is dominated by white backpack. You can also see some additional details. To break the colours a little bit I have added some drybrushing and I think it gave the figure a lot of character.

Last of my main inspirations for this model regards its shield. The pattern you see here is based on red and white checkerboard that you can find on Polish military jets, planes and helicopters.



At the end of the day I gave the figure to Jon and I am happy to say that he liked it a lot and it was totally worth the effort just to see him enjoy it so much . Mister Bailey - if you are reading this, thank you very much for meeting with Polish Transformers Fandom. I hope you had a good time and that someday you will return to meet with us again.
