Jihaxus was around before IDW, Windblade was a toy first and so was victorion. The comics are just cross sale platforms.

Nautica is a good example though.

But IDW Jhiaxus is arguably a different character altogether and that figure is undeniably IDW Jhiaxus.

Regardless, IDW Jhiaxus was still based originally on Marvel Jhiaxus, right down to their similar head designs. He wasn't a purely IDW-original creation.

Was he though? g2 Jhiaxus was a Cybertronian purist that believed in the expansion of a Cybertronian empire and saw Cybertronians as the dominant species in th Galaxy.

IDW Jhiaxus belonged to a group of Cybertronian purists that wanted to expanded their race across the galaxy and believed they were the dominant species.

That generations figure just has IDW Jhiaxus head. The entire color scheme is based on KB toys exclusive Jhiaxus.

Takara seriously needs to make a legends figure with appropriate paint deco already. They teased it in Cloud over a year ago and I don't even care if an $70 ehobby exclusive I'll buy it.

I'm no comics guy, but does sentinel count?
His face design and color scheme are IDW-inspired, but the character concept itself originated from Marvel G1, with Animated being the first franchise to give a toy to a character bearing the name.

He feel a lot more like a cross sell toy to me. Sure, the colour and face are IDW but its more like Hasbro doing that to sell a new toy that didnt need much effort to do by using the astrotrain mold.

The deal with Tarn is that he would be a new mold, at least I hope. Sentinel is just a reuse with slight homages with a cross sell comic.

Straxus really is the best example so I thank Randomhero for reminding me of that. He is also a bad guy comic only transformers character who didnt appear in much but was memorable and got his own mold. Tarn is pretty much the same thing and Straxus is precedent :)

That figure doesnt look like IDW Jhiaxus that much. Its a cross of many homages, icluding IDW. But its more hitns than the actual thing.

Here is IDW Jhiaxus which is based on Marvel Jihaxus:

And they coloured the toy like KB toys exclusive Jhiaxus.

And its also just a redeco of Starscream which is a different body than any other interpretation. So he really doesnt fit at all. Feels more like a retool/redeco to out on the shelves for some low cost diversity of a character that didnt have a gen toy yet.

Thanks! The only reason I said anything is because he's my favorite figure from the 2010 line. He even beats out Drift and I love that drift figure!

Once I saw him at botcon and got him I flipped out. Even his 3rd mode is cool to me. Getting a little fan fictiony but he was Tarn before Tarn existed. I created my own story about how him being one of Megatrons right handed men and hunt down deserters from the decepticons.

Generations 2010 in my opinion was one of the best CHUG lines we ever got because of how many obscure characters we got. Characters the general audience knew nothing about or didn't even know existed. Thunderwing, Straxus, junkheap, black shadow, SKULLGRIN!!!! It was a line that made fans on message boards say "I don't know who these characters are!" And I loved it

I really like to buy Hasbro versions of stuff when they're good and relatively screen accurate. For example: Sergeant Kup and TM Galvatron.

My big anxiety as we wait for word on TR Kup (if there is one) is that Hasbro will go for toy colors. I dig toy colors on the '84 characters but the movie characters strike me as being best served by toon accuracy.

So far, TR seems to be going heavy on the toy homages from Hasbro. And a toy homage Kup would double as a Marvel Comics Kup and be cheap on the paint apps.

But I really want more of an IDW/toon color scheme. I'm oddly anxious he'll wind up as mostly one shade of gray.

Considering the PMOP Titan Master face is based on Orion Pax, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that's a reference to this.

I agree and I don't know how I feel about that head as Kup. The eyes are HUGE because it was designed so you can see the eyes under the Optimus helmet

The head works for me. I'd like smaller eyes/bags under them. I may wait to see what Takara does since I just want one Kibble-light Kup to round out my movie shelf.

I want to see their take on Hot Rod as well.

Currently running a shelf with MP Hot Rod (the more recent one), Legends Springer, Hasbro Sergeant Kup, Takara Arcee, Hasbro Magnus, MP Daniel in Exosuit, Takara Wreckgar (wih a few 3rd party add-ons), MP Grimlock. I get Legends Blurr tomorrow and have Wheelie preordered. Hasbro Galvatron, Battle in Space Cyclonus (needs a reprolabel; took the RTS sticker off), and awaiting a Legends Scourge.

The only ones whose scale bug me are MP Rod Rod and Springer. But they and Galvatron all scale well and kind of sit in together.

I would consider swapping out Kup (too much kibble and wrong alt mode), Springer (if we can get a chubby deluxe-ish sized one or even an MP), Wreck Gar (again for something more bulky), and Hot Rod (mainly to scale better with Arcee and Blurr). But I'm rapidly approaching what, for me, is my perfect Transformers The Movie shelf.

I'd be absolutely down for the new Sharkitcon Gnaw (I'd like two) and a Quintesson.

Actually: here's a thought: What if they did a Quintesson where all five faces are Titan Masters?

It would probably keep the scale down to a weird Deluxe-y Legends scale level unless each of the five faces had a mask gimmick. But I'd be up for that like crazy. I think lack of play gimmicks is a big reason we haven't seen Quintesson toys before aside from Alpha Q.

No, Straxus turned into this very Galvatron-like artillery cannon that for some reason is able to fly:

RodimusRex wrote:
Bradimus wrote:I still say Straxus is an obvious and fitting retool of Galvatron. The robot modes aren't a great match because of how boxy Straxus is, but with some clever retooling they could get an update that looks close enough. The artillery modes don't need much retooling at all. I don't know who came first, but Straxus could be Galvatron. Or the other way around.

If you're going to make Straxus become someone else, I think Beast Wars Megatron would be a novel approach. We know he had a name before Megatron, generally, and we know Straxus has a tendency to become a second Mega/Galvatron. Fits with people's desire here to see a BW Megatron as a new villain in IDW's G1 comics.

One idea I played with when I was hoping to pitch comics was Straxus becoming G2 Megatron. This frees up G1 Megs to either remain Galvatron or be an Autobot, depending on the continuity, while introducing G2 Megs. And from there, my idea is if G2 Megs is a separate character, he can be the very early incarnation of BW Megs.

It fits in a weird way. He's a purple-faced Megatron. he starts of a lot of the engineering/color schemes you see into BW. He also has "Megatron" written all over his body in G2 as though, you know, maybe he's trying TOO hard to convince everyone of who he is.

So in my head, G1 Megs is free to go into exile/stay Galvatron/stay an Autobot. Then Straxus creates the G2 Megs identity for himself to seize command of the Decepticons and proceeds to evolve into BW Megs. It's a clean solution to a range of problems in most G1 continuities.

I'm not saying Straxus should become someone else, I'm saying he and Galvatron have artillery alt modes that look so much alike they could be each other, like the Datsun brothers. Not identical twins, but if the colors were swapped someone might mistake one for the other.

I'm really not a fan of the Galvatron > Straxus idea just due to the alt mode tbh. Their robot modes are nothing alike and it'd be missing Straxus' signature axe.
Thing with Galvatron is that his robot mode is so distinctly him that it wouldn't work as anyone else. The closest I've seen is the Flame idea; that I could get behind but even then it'd be hard not to see as Galvatron trying very hard to look like someone else but doing very bad at it.

Sky Shadow was a land animal and a sky animal combined into one. Overlord is a land vehicle and a sky vehicle that combine for robot mode at least (I'm not sure what that one image is implying). Maybe possibly there's some kind of wacky repaint, please Hasbro! BW Sky Shadow is already perfection, but I'd be ALL OVER a "pre-war" version.

But I'm expecting just another use of that Seeker mold that's shelfwarming as we speak...
This could happen. It is the 20th anniversary of Beast Wars. Also, think about how Blitzwing was repainted as Doubledealer. I could see it, but I bet they are just making a new mold of Sky Shadow.

well.....it's similar in the fact that they both form a superjet :-P

Speaking of jets....i've had another idea ;) since we've now had a few characters that were targetmasters now as headmasters(titans return)....Blurr, Scourge ect, how about CW Strafe retooled(YES! i know it's already a retool from one of the Arielbots) as Slugslinger!

also

since we've now got Apeface...are we ever gonna get Snapdragon?
