Pretty sure that won't be the case. How they handle the wheels on his legs is underwhelming.

Please, it looks much nicer, and doesn't have a backpack for days. Despite (again) being a deluxe, it manages to tackle the shape and style of hotrod while dealing with the kibble in bot mode, so - in my opinion - it is more successful, and certainly more desirable - for me personally - than that MP any day of the week, I like the Animated throwbacks in the car mode, very nice.

Most likely gonna get him, and possibly any remold they make of him (hoping for a :CON: )

I dunno, this Hot Rod looks like he might have a bit of a backpack, too.

Besides, the MP has an ab crunch. An ab crunch! What MP has that!?

My Lego-formers can ab-crunch, it's not difficult >:oP and it's hardly this figures fault that TT (a different company) didn't engineer they're figures with ab-crunch :-s besides, not many MPs' transformations could allow for an ab-crunch, and hotrod doesn't really look good doing it either, so there's that :-P

I don't know if you've ever handled MP Hot Rod in hand, but he is definitely up there as one of the best MP cars, IMHO. Just packed with extras, transformation is great, and he's Hot Rod to a T.

I don't really like G1, so I don't have any MP's (would like MP Soundwayne though); but, it's strictly about how it handles itself as a tf, tr hotrod handles itself well, whereas mp hotrod crams it into a backpack - plus, tr hotrod'll only be $15 ;)

... wait, if you don't like G1, why are you following TR and Generations in general...? Not saying there's anything wrong with that, just curious since it is G1-based

Well, I buy figures that I think look cool, which means a lot of things based on the 'boring' G1 stuff gets passed right on by me; that said, I love combiners, and I think this style works for me over all, I plan to get Crashbash, Apeface, Wolfwire, Skullcruncher, Getaway, Hot Rod, and Astrotrain.

You've gotta understand, that before CW, I had a very minimalist approach to buying figures because of that very point that you high-lighted, I do indeed foresee my purchasing taking a steep fall now.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

It just wasn't good - granted, I didn't grow up with it, I'm a BW kid - the figures looked like crap, the show was crap, and we've been doing this G1-updates series for 10 years, it could be celebrating it's own anniversary :HEADHURTS: It comes down to: I'm just tired of G1 this and G1 that, some of the figures look cool, but not the ones hasbro's been dwelling on.

I'd be totally cool, if they played it up like the 30th ann. line, with various updates; give me some armada (god knows those figures desperately need updates), give me energon, give me anything else (BW please?) - or, you know, create new figures (beyond the rid stuff) I'm just over G1, not that I was ever really into it.

I could probably count on my digits figures I would want updates of, so this stuff just does nothing for me, but it comes out here, since I'm on the broads now, whereas before, it was just me thinking to myself. Again, I like several of the figures from TR, I just don't have the money to buy them all, and beyond that, I don't really like them anyways.

An understandable opinion. Personally, I'm not a fan of the original G1 stuff (don't hate it, just don't really care), but the IDW G1 comics are my favorite continuity. And I do agree, we need updates on BW and the Unicron Trilogy.

The headsculpt isn't anything special either. I know it may sound like I dislike it but I don't really. It's just a figure that hasn't aged well and has become average by today's standards. Hope that explains at least my nit picks about him if not the collective whole(I doubt it does). :D

No, that about sums up Classics Rodimus and all his repInts pretty accurately.

Here's one you'll like, Will. Take CW Brakedown, but instead of effed-up proportions and harem pants, he's just got this stiff, blocky aesthetic. He had the same type of shoulders as the recent Skids fig, and he's got the knees of Classics Jetfire, where the swivel is found uselessly below the knee.

Also, he has tiny, tiny fists with nonstandard 3mm fist holes, and no elbow swivel. He's also shorter than GenerTions TrIlbreAmer.

They are doing G2 Optimus as a Headmaster. Honestly, though, the deco isn't selling me.

It would look better in Scourge deco although I would go nuts for an homage to Takara G2 Laser Ultra Magnus. Scourge/Nemesis redeco seems almost guaranteed. Toxitron is unlikely but would be awesome. A Botcon Thunderclash deco might work with the TR Laser Optimus mold as well.

Actually, the TR Laser Optimus mold redecoed as an Energon Rodimus would be cool. That fulfills both the role of a non-G1 homage and a Voyager Rodimus. It looks to me like the shoulder elements may fold down to the sides for a better Energon Rodimus homage.

I'd really like to see an IDW spin-off toy line. It's time. I thought they were heading down that track with the amazing Ultra Magnus, but it seems like we veered in another direction of late. Here's hoping that they revisit the concepts at a later date. Man I'd love to see a more "IDW" looking Rodimus. At this point, I'm thinking an entire series ala Transformers Animated but with Alex Milne and Andrew Griffith at the helm instead of Animated's Derrick Wyatt.

Much as it'd be cool... I can't say I'd be entirely up for the idea because it would likely mean Hasbro having more direct control and say in what IDW does and what characters they use at what time.

Really /:)
We just got a SLAVISHLY G1 MP Hot Rod. Why should this be any more 'G1' than it already is? I mean, its about as G1 accurate as Scourge, or Blurr are, and it certainly does scream 'Hot Rod' to everyone, it looks just like the character, who else could it be?

If we really are getting all the Autobot and Decepticon clones at some point, who thinks that Weirdwolf might get a retool as Pounce? Seems logical to me. I could see Mindwipe retooled as Wingspan too.

Hmm depends on if they can retool both molds to look identical. Though I can see the autobot clones from one mold (blurr and brainstorm)

@screamy I would gladly take a gen armada prime and Co if they could give the combined form as much articulation as the recent gestalts. The original looks really impressive but needs to focus on not falling down :-P

heck I'll take just a generations space shuttle jetfire, I'm not picky.

Oh man if Takara had done something more for Cloud Hot Rod and the paint on the legs. #-o It really throws the whole bot mode off IMO.

But anyway I now have a great Neo G1 Hot Rod and I can't wait to see how much greater Takara will make this look! :VEHI:

A couple little niggles (like too high shoulders..and the chunk taken from the bottom of the chest area losing the pointy bit of the flame) but overall I'm very happy with the look of that figure and I will certainly be buying it (not sure whether Hasbro or Takara though yet)

Classics Rodimus was one of my absolute fave TF figures ever but it was released way early on at the start of this whole G1 update process and before certain 'standards' had been set so just didn't really fit as well with the modern G1 update figures. This one looks much more fitting. I'd like to see him posed with Takara's Blurr and Generations Arcee!

Does make me wonder if I should continue working on my Voyager-class Hot Rod custom (like Cloud Rodimus it's Springer mold but I went with a different look and also some modifications in the actual shape and extra parts... was leaving the flame decal til last)
Image
Since that photo was taken I've sliced off the 'kneepads' cos I have no use for their landing gear (not using the chopper mode for Hot Rod). And done some other slight mods.

Your right, that wouldnt work with them all together as we can see below:

Image

BUT we are mixing things a little though, those who want a voyager Rodimus are of course not satisfied by this hotrod because he is hot rod and not rodimus instead, hence his stature. That Cloud Rodimus still works well as the IDW Rodimus people would want (which is where a few complaints come from). Here he is next to Magnus as co captains:

Image

Now if you want a Rodimus to go with your movie bots for his look and scale in season 3, there is an answer for that too, the MP:

Image

Surprisingly, I have found no other pictures using the MP Hot Rod as a classics Rodimus, with him next to the other movie bots. May have to take out my toys today and rectify that since the scale looks really good.

In any case, what we have today is far better than what people have had to make due with not too long ago:

He had the same type of shoulders as the recent Skids fig, and he's got the knees of Classics Jetfire, where the swivel is found uselessly below the knee. Also, he has tiny, tiny fists with nonstandard 3mm fist holes, and no elbow swivel. He's also shorter than GenerTions TrIlbreAmer.

Yeah, that doesnt paint the most appealing picture

Since that photo was taken I've sliced off the 'kneepads' cos I have no use for their landing gear (not using the chopper mode for Hot Rod). And done some other slight mods.

Well... it still works as a Rodimus as opposed to a Hot Rod, imo. It helps that since you're a fan of the Marvel comics, you'd want to be displaying Springer with the Wreckers or Survivors anyway which doesn't involve Rodimus.
It also kinda helps that the only time one would display Rodimus and Springer together is in a Season 3 display...
That mold's a really weird one. It's amazing and it somehow works for every single character made from it (at this point you could probably make Laserbeak from it and people'd be happy)... as long as you don't display them side-by-side.
