That clearer image certainly shows how awesome he looks.
Although, I must admit, considering he isn’t a parts former of a robot in armour…he looks rather…kibbly and broken up? Not sure if you can see what I mean.
For those hailing the cartoon accuracy (those using it as means to shoot down those of us that wanted inner robot in armour) when did he ever have what appears to be a very short cape?
To weigh in on why I’d prefer MP Magnus to be a white Prime in armour (which I thought was a good question, presented rather politely); Play and display value. (excuse some of the mess, have some Kit-bash fodder lying around…):
(I realise some of these configurations are not completely accurate to the powered convoy ones…I did this real quick…) I mean, imagine all these options at Masterpiece scale!
And I can’t be the only one that arranges my ‘adult collectables’ in displays like this?:
I mean, I know non of us are 8 anymore, but c’mon, fun play and display options were what MP-10 was about…I guess I was just hoping MP-22 would have the same spirit.
To tackle TimothyR ,not quoted for (relative) shortness; This kind of reasoning and nonsense bothers me. You would honestly want toys to be restricted by a cartoon that didn’t know it’s own head from it’s own arse? Season 3 had no concept of continuity (visual or written), and to say ‘it never happened in the cartoon’ whilst true, again isn’t concrete. Rodimus was never Hot-Rod slotted into a trailer, oh except that one episode where people over at Akom felt it needless to follow the characters model. Yet MP-09 exists. Rodimus never split from his trailer to form a base, but I’m glad MP-09 took from the toy on that aspect. It’s fun, and adds options. Even MP-10 has options taken from the toy that were never used (or needed) in the show. Roller and the trailer base were akin to AI, they don’t need a pilot, but to respect the toy and have some fun the seats for Spike were added.
So it was never seen in official fiction, big whoop. I suppose you carry a cross and a vile of Holy water just in case you are subjected to an image of the MP datsuns sporting the toy accurate shoulder launchers from Amazon. Some of us enjoy flexibility in toys and display pieces.
I don’t think a white Prime in armour would have ruined the aesthetic of the final Magnus Bot that much. He would still look like the cartoon, with good design and engineering which I have no doubt TT are capable of. The biggest bane would be partsforming, which usually bothers me too but Magnus will always be an exception for me, if and when offered. This view on what Magnus ‘should be’ based on his fiction appearances is yours, and worthy of respect. What’s troublesome is your post doesn’t afford the other side of the fence the same respect and courtesy.
This was always going to be a decision split right down the middle. TT made their choice and this time the winning side wasn’t mine. Even after not getting what I want, you don’t see me or the others being rude and insisting the other side is wrong due to ‘facts’ buried in relativity and pedantry.
Despite all this, it looks damn good! Can’t wait to see it in his colours. I definetly want one, Magnus is too awesome not to own! I love animated and both TF: Prime incarnations for breaking from the ‘white Prime in armour’ concept…but I hoped a ‘perfect’ G1 Magnus would incorporate it. Just different ideals, that’s all it is. Like I said, one side was always destined to ‘loose’. Given how good this looks…it’s not much of a loss. But for me, a part of me is disappointed.
If I feel rich enough maybe one day I’ll buy a second and attempt a kit bash…
