When it takes such close scrutiny to spot the differences and similarities between the two molds you know Hasbro's done a fantastic job of distinguishing characters from each other. Great looking toy. These Protectobots already look better than the CW Arielbots. Can't wait to see them in hand.

Weapon: Concussion Cannon
[quote="shajaki"]Once again Genetic over at Snakas Blog has scored the first in hand shots of Combiner Wars Protectobot: First Aid! As you may have already known and can now see, he comes as a surprisingly extensive retool of Stunitcon newbie Offroad, with more than just flashing lights and a new noggin. Keep scrolling to see the pics and stay tuned to Seibertron for all your Transformers News!

Hasbro is getting so good at making different figures out of the same molds. First Aid is winner!

At what point is something NOT considered a redeco at this point?

Honest question. I see the term thrown around a lot...but I really don'the see much in common here. Granted I come from MOTU and Marvel where most new toys are straight repaints on the same body....

Motormaster seems to have more new parts than parts in common with Optimus as well. Pretty much only the legs and a few other odds and ends are actually the same.

Indeed, but the base is still the same. Think of it as an imaginary "design skeleton" that influences transformation and placement and design of parts.

Seeing First Aid like this, really makes me want to make a CW version of Ambulon.

Obviously, he'd make an excellent right leg. And, I wouldn't need to worry about an alt mode unless a gun-mode counts? But who would make the best base figure?

And yes, I know. LENGTHWAYS.

:-? Interesting. The reason I always assumed sabotage was because Mignola was always adamant to show that all the equipment was Zinco brand. So I thought it was too big a coincidence. I never really understood what Mignola was trying to say in all that.

Reshell is a good term to use We could say retool too. What would we call the Prime beast hunter toys then, reshells or retools? Someone correct me if I am wrong but two seperate molds must still be made for these two toys to be manufactured right? The only cost Hasbro is truly saving is preliminary design work and Takara's engineering fee, right?

A reshell is a specific kind of retool, that's all there is to it. :)

The Prime Beast Hunters retools and the Combiner Wars ones follow the same basic principle in replacing parts, but the Combiners Wars ones are more involved still and most likely were planned and sculpted in advance to ensure they all can be produced and released within a single year. It's a time-saving measure for sure and to an extent a cost-saving one as some parts are still reused between pretool pairs. I don't know if TakaraTomy charges by the figure, or by the mold.

Just curious guys, there have been reports that some TRUs and Walmarts are selling the deluxe limbs at 19.99$US. Has anyone come across that? I know walmart in canada sells their deluxes for 19.99$ but its in canadian currency so not necessarily a price increase over last year if we convert.

That's partly to do with how well they do or don't fit in with their teammates. Alpha Bravo stands out more as a helicopter among jets than Offroad as a pickup among assorted vehicles, or Rook as an armored police vehicle with a bunch of other police vehicles. This happened to me Thursday night when I was transforming Breakdown for the first time. The windshield is supposed to fold back far enough far enough to give the hood clearance to fold all the way to flip and fold over. The windshield hinge would not budge past the midway point. After referring to the instructions and confirming that windshield should be pushed further, I confidently applied more pressure to move the windshield into place. Instead, it snapped.

The windshield is pretty thin near the hinge, which is part of why it broke. If it feels firm and won't budge into place , I discovered that you can get more leverage by flipping the car over, moving the connector port, and using the dagger to push the hinge into place. This way won't place stress on that thin piece of plastic. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Put the fate of your Breakdown together with that pricetag, and that's slaggin' scary!

And yes, when my TRU finally got the limbs, the price turned out to be $19.99. This hasn't affected older Generations deluxes, BTW.

And by me, that's only ToysRUs so far. To put that in perspective, thanks to Meijer's current sale, you can get a CW Voyager FOR THAT SAME PRICE! Scouts are $7 there, so limbs are the only CW figs not on sale at Meijer; interpret that how ye May, which I believe is when the sale ends.

This may soon reach the point where it's as cheap to buy online, but I prefer to take my pick of the best paint jobs whenever possible.
