Stupid fees. It's why I stopped shipping things internationally when I sell stuff on eBay. It'd be great if I could get stuff to people safely and cheaply. It's a shame other Devastator options would be so much more for you kids :-(

I am sure there will be upgrade kits available. But while upgrade kits are fun, pound for pound nothing beats officially licensed exclusive stuff in the secondary market (meaning increased value down the road).
Truth :APPLAUSE:

Seriously though, where's the missile.

Not in the G1 cartoon, therefore not on this toy. It looked rather silly anyway ;)
The resident Rewind... well, half of one

I thought the SDCC was supposed to represent the G1 toy? Therefore it SHOULD exist, but we aren't getting individual bot guns on the SDCC either so.. :D

I dont understand. Why wouldnt the takara version be even more expensive than this? And have you thought of the import costs when getting it from japan? the shipping will be ridiculous. You can always buy BBTS, but you live in canada right? So let's assume the Takara best case scenario is 200$ US.

Shipping to canada from the states will be 30$ at least. You will be charged 10$ duty and an extra 15% guaranteed tax fee for such a huge purchase/box.

So you would end up paying about 331$ cdn for Takara's instead of about 180$ cdn for the hasbro version at TRU (I am basically cancelling out the taxes with the employee discount). How is this not more worthwhile?

Your logic may well be right. I haven't imported much recently.

The thing that I keep underestimating is how piss poor our dollar is. It will gravely affect my decision, and probably yours too.

It's so piss poor that it's worse than TRU predicted. Devastator is on preorder for 159.99$ US everwhere which is 196$ cdn, so slightly more expensive than what TRU is asking for.

And it's all because Stephen bloody Harper decided we, as a country, only needed the oil economy and crippled us by shacking our dollar directly to the boom and bust of big oil.

And if it was the U.S. release G1 it would have purple forearms AND fists, so there's that. You win this round JZGR....

A fitting analogy considering how awful Play Arts Kai are.

I was comparing the articulation mainly. What do you personally find awful about them?

PAK are known for ugly joints, QC problems, bad paint, being overpriced and being woefully out of scale with other figures. I personally don't own any but what with all the horror stories I've heard about them (plus the fact I generally stick to 6" scale for my figure collection, and the insane prices) I avoid them.

To be fair, that could have gone either way. It's the uncontrollable factors that make it a risky and currently bad idea -- factors like the US's continued meddling in the middle east that results in the Saudis and others yanking their leash with oil production to try to bankrupt the shale production companies and the resulting economic fluctuations which are apparently impacting Canada in a worse way.

*Sigh* I think the individual figures look, honestly, really crappy. The Combined form is great, no arguing that, but honestly, I don't get a sense of awe when looking at it, the arms look a bit to small and the head is, while perfectly G1, very simple. I'm not trying to aggravate the Devastator fanboys out here, but I'd take any of the 3'd Party figures over this guy. At least they all have elbows, even the legends scale one.

@Randomhero

He's got a fair point of the individual figures being somewhat lacking. I'm sure lots of collectors display combiners individually; I do, Sometimes I just dismember a combiner and pose my fleet of figures.

So wanting a nice set of individual figures is equally important to some, as a cohesive combined mode is to others. I will not buy this set so long as it is tremendously underpainted, and/or lacks individual elbows. I won't go 3P, I'll just miss out; but I have my rules and Devestator breaks them.

Considering Hasbro has very intelligently not shut down 3P groups who are clearly infringing on their IP I don't see how anyone is spitting in anyone's face. Hasbro has clearly been watching the 3P stuff to guage what fans want but what most can't afford and have been carefully constructing well engineered official competition for 3P buyer's attention.

Yeah, well, I'm sorry, but this guy is a bad seed compared to the fantastic things Hasbro is putting out in Combiner Wars. I'd rather know I was putting the money into something that had way more thought put into it and actually is articulated fully. I am not trying to be rude, but until fairly recently, Combiners were something I dreaded, mostly because Hasbro had failed in the past with the Energon line Combiners and the FOC Bruticus. But when we got to see Combiner Wars, I had such high hopes for Devastator. But, I think they rushed it. Scrapper's arms are a perfect example, would it have killed them to install a locking mechanism or a heavy ratchet to keep them stiff in "heel" form? The same with Long Haul's tiny arms, I get they have to keep out of the way in combined form, but surely they could have them flip around to the back of the big guy or fill out the torso more.

I like Back kibble.

I like that when they are in individual robots, I can still tell who is who. The alt mode parts are part of their visual appeal to me and if they had found some clever way to completely hide what vehicle had turned into what robot... I wouldn't be interested in transformers in general. I LIKE that when you look at prime he looks like a Semi-truck that stood up. Prowl without his wing doors?!? I just can't accept a prowl without Wing Doors. (In fact sold off the alternator ones because the doors weren't in the right place... GOTTA be able to read 'police' when he's looking at you.)

SOME figures take it to unhealthy levels and look stupid. These ones don't come close to that line for me. Everything's there... but it's tucked up nicely.

Mixmaster is questionable... I'm not a fan of him tripoding in that picture there... hopefully balance won't really be an issue and was just a poor display.

Devastator is not looking good. And given the only good options for him are over £300...I might just collect as many non-combining Constructicons as I can instead.

That was what I aimed that comment at, sorry, I think the back kibble on most of these guys looks damn good, but Mixmaster is missing that barrel in the back look that he had in original.

Absolutely agree! I love kibble, when it's on purpose and correctly placed, not like this:

While I think the SDCC looks far better in terms of deco, I prefer the visor, but retail Devastator looks very bland :/
I have a friend gong to SDCC, so if he could bring me one, I might bite, but I'll probably buy my very first 3P product when someone inevitably releases better arms for them, I can forgive Scrapper, he reaaaaally needs to hold a very heavy load, but why Long Haul? And Mixmaster and Hook are really pushing it, I wish all had articulation on par with Bonecrusher and Scavenger, those two do look fantastic.

Re: Transformers Generations Devastator - So Big It Needs Its Own Thread

its not a rushed toy.the production time for a figure is a year to two years from design to finish. theyve explained already that scrapper was designed to give Devstator optimal support . hes not a brick, you can pose him just fine. its a good figure and its great that theyre even creating one with all 6 members. and considering that online retailers have sold out of preorders, im not the only one who thinks so.

It looks to me like 4 out of the 6 do have elbows. Regrettably two appear to not. And now I'm getting questionable on him.

Indeed, however, for me, every poseable mode (vehicle = hotspot, robot, beast mode, combined mode) needs to have AT LEAST basic articulation, otherwise, why bother if all they can do is some G1 style brick poses?

Also there's nothing to say, other than budget, that they could have given Scrapper elbows and bicep swivels, and simply spin them 180 degrees, maybe even have a large strut fold across the foot from the shovel, or something for the hands to peg into.
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

right because you never intend to combine them if you do own them and because kibble has been total taboo from Transformers for 30 years. what are you even expecting?

While a little harshly worded, I totally agree.

At least they all have elbows, even the legends scale one.

and i plan on continuing to support Hasbro/Takara to show my gratitude that after 30 years, we still get G1 characters modernized. spend your $600 on $120 worth of plastic. ill continue to support the people that made my childhood great while you spit in their face saying you'd rather buy 3rd party figures.

Well. You sure get butthurt fast that someone doesn't like a toy robot that you like. Thanks for the laughs.
