Sadly there isn't a snowball's chance in a furnace that I'll be able to get online in the hope of catching him the two minutes he's available on HTS, so unless I find someone willing to snag one for me I'm outta luck.

I wouldnt be so sure he'd be crazy hard to get online. The dinobots were available for a while.

True, but those were movie bots AND an incomplete set.

By the G1 sells logic, I'm hoping I might be able to get the Combiner Hunters 3 pack on HTS. Fingers crossed.

I'm not trying to insult Hasbro's retail Release of Devy but after seeing the comparison pics above. The SDCC Devy makes the retail version look like a unpainted prototype. I think I'll go for SDCC's or takaras version on this 'cause those extra paint apps really make Devy pop.

In addition, building a Prowl who would be his usual black and white in robot and car mode and green in combined mode would tax even the most brilliant engineer at Takara.

1) Prowl is green in both modes as a constructicon, so it wouldn't be as hard as you are making it out to be.

Prowl is black and white. Period.

G1 sells.

Firstly, its established above that he isn't true G1 due to mixmaster's updated alt mode. Secondly, G1 is not a definite sell. Ask anyone about those times TRU tried to sell those reissues. This year's G1 reissued insecticons will stay at KMART and TRU for a long time. If Metroplex sold super well, he wouldnt have been discounted to so low in the end. Sure, you can dissect what I just wrote and give conditions but that just comes to show that a blanket statement like "G1 sells" doesnt mean all that much and isnt inherently true. I think this will sell more because it's a great Devastator and not necessarily because this is true G1.

G1 doesn't sell? I guess it all depends on your location. When the reissues of the early 1000's came out I couldn't find anything but Hoist and Skids most of the time. The ONLY time I ever saw Starscream was when I was lucky enough to find him at a ToysRUs grand opening no less. 500 miles up north from where that was (and where I'm at currently)AOE stuff is still collecting dust along with Whirl and Roadbuster. And nope. No Insecticons in sight still. Wait this is the Devastator thread? Nevermind...

It makes me sad how small the other combiners are next to Devy, and I really do wish they'd gone with Deluxe individual bots over Voyager for the Constructicons.

Ah well, what's done is done.

It honestly doesn't look too bad. I saw one of the 3rd party Devastators earlier in this thread and his knees looked really high too. Besides, it's not like we haven't got high kneed figures before. AoE Stealth mode Bumblebee looked very similar and he was a great toy to me. :BOT:

If bent elbows were in the equation, Hasbro would have given them to us. I remain steadfast in that belief until proven otherwise. I also don't recall any precedent for Takara retooling their versions of the same toys, other than in Arms Micron, where they were given superficial alterations to accommodate the gimmick. I will remain skeptical until proven otherwise, because it would be extremely dickish of Hasbro to give Scrapper the straight arms when there was an elbow option.
This is different from Groove, who is an entirely original sculpt to Takara.

It's essentially the same kind of compromise that Hasbro has done with the designs for a numbers of CHUG figures, in which cases these figures were all sculpted to be very fiction-accurate (be it to the G1 cartoon or the IDW comics) in robot mode, while their altmodes were instead given more liberties to their looks. Mixmaster's altmode may be different, but his robot mode and leg mode are sculpted to be near-straight up G1.
