itscramtastic wrote:Jay I feel like the Takara one is going to be the SDCC version with the Hasbro release head. Maybe an extra paint app (for the windows on Mixmaster or something). I'm sure it has been mentioned by people in the thread (I'm too lazy to search for it ) kind of like Metroplex was very similar to the convention exclusives that year. They'll all be JUST enough to make them different, but I'm still going to stick with one of the Has/Tak versions over the third party offerings personally. Also, I think the big comparisons would be any of the Takara CHUG figures vs Hasbro CHUG as far as paint goes (not MP).jay5 wrote:Wonder how the paint application will be on the Takara. Not too thrilled with what I've seen from them so far on Masterpiece models. If the SDCC one is nicely done, no need to risk a Takara purchase unless it has some really significant differences to it. If SDCC isn't well done, probably Green Giant time for me.itscramtastic wrote:You were just supposed to answer "Soon", Shaj. I feel like I won't end up with Devastator until September, which seems super far away even though it's less than 90 days.
Thanks Shajaki!shajaki wrote:@ICT
I'm with ya. My prediction: UW Devastator will be near identical to SDCC, only with the standard head.
I thought it just had some extra paint apps/color molds but used the SDCC/ACG as the base?megatronus wrote:Wait... Wasn't SDCC/ACG Con Metroplex nearly identical to the Hasbro version besides for chromed face/thighs and the extra gun? Takara's deviated much more from either of those, so there isn't much precedent to suggest Takara's deco will be that similar to SDCC's. Unless the SDCC deco is slavishly G1.

Maybe you're right..my memory isn't as accurate as the photos.

I agree with you Megatronus, I haven't run in to any paint issues with TT, jay. Usually the case is that the TT paint ends up being more accurate to the original item (either animation or toy model) I thought?megatronus wrote:What do you mean? MrBlack wrote:SillySpringer wrote:Moosey wrote:SillySpringer wrote:Guys, I gotta wonder, do you think Hasbro or Takara will do a Constructicon Prowl, to combine with Devastator? Would be boss.
We have discussed this many times before.... It's incredibly unlikely since that would mean a lot of re-engineering and such, plus I believe Hasbro said they wanted to do a really faithful traditional Devastator in an interview, which is why they didn't have prowl in the first place.
Well, I'm thinking, since they made a Groove limb for Defensor, I think Takara may make a Prowl for Unite Warriors Devastator, If they DO a UW Devy.
They won't for two reasons:
1) Prowl took Hook's place as Devastator's upper torso, with Hook becoming Devastator's right leg (replacing Scrapper). Thus, an accurate Prowlastator would require two new figures: Prowl as the upper torso, and a new Hook to form the right leg. In addition, building a Prowl who would be his usual black and white in robot and car mode and green in combined mode would tax even the most brilliant engineer at Takara.
2) No one in Japan cares about the IDW comics, so there is no reason for Takara to come out with Prowlastator.
As cool as it would be to have a (previously) comic accurate Devastator with Prowl as a component, it is ABSOLUTELY 100% NOT GOING TO HAPPEN.
shajaki wrote:Takara already teased a UW Devastator with sillhouttes, none of which look like Prowl.SillySpringer wrote:It would work on the shelf, but I think Takara, maybe, just possibly, will do a Unite warriors Devy with Prowl.

Yeah, brief aside to clarify this: the Japanese fanbase is enormous. Kotteri, Yamaishi, Hayato Sakamoto have worked or still are working with IDW. Andrew Griffith, Josh Perez and Livio Ramondelli are huge in Japan, as is Alex Milne.
The one big thing that gets in the way of the comics being widespread is that they've only just started translating and distributing them, starting with All Hail Megatron (as we saw here).
william-james88 wrote:An extra example would be the CW Ultra Magnus figure. The Takara version is more comic book accurate in paint apps (and yet they have Alpha trion instead of minimus ambus so its give and take I guess)

Like I said, a third party company will probably make another Prowl and Hook as a leg to combine with Devy.
