But they already did that with the telemocha one so there is no point in doing it again for the MP. You can still buy it right here and be done for the day http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Transformers-Leg ... SwBahVR1K0 (its cheaper too and scales with Gen Rhinox!)

So since we already have what you want, they decided to give us something totally new.

- The Beast mode can now stand up like he did the majority of the time.
- The Gorilla head is of a MUCH better proportion and actually looks like the show model unlike any previous incarnation.
- He has wrist pistols in both hands and they dont flip out leaving his forearms looking like they just exploded.
- More articulation everywhere! (especially the wrists/hands)
- Both the mouth and faceplate for robot
- Better proportions in robot mode
- A totally new transformation scheme to make up for the better beast mode proportions
- Less robot mode showing in beast mode, and none of those big empty lines cutting across the beast chest.

This is a step up in almost everyway and he will look more show accurate in both modes than ever before. That is what MP is all about!

Sorry bud, but I am not calling a crap figure a MP just because everyone else likes it. This gorilla mode is just not acceptable.

Thats your opinion and its cool. But objectively the original Ultra toy's gorilla mode looks nothing like the show model. Food for thought.

It's cartoon accurate - from a line that puts cartoon accuracy as the highest priority - even if it's to the detriment of the figure; Besides, like the ultra class one had that great of a gorilla mode
I am not a G1 fan, please treat my opinions as such.

#-o Oh, how I wish we had more than one term to refer to all the different things that the term "G1" can refer to. #-o

Alright, I'll run through these one at a time, I guess...

* While Victory is indeed a separate cartoon series from the original one called "The Transformers" (which was split into two separate cartoon series in Japan), Victory is also considered to be a "Japanese G1 cartoon" in the sense of "G1" in that case referring to the greater continuity that all the Japanese TF cartoons of that era, the 1980s, were a part of. Not to mention that the Japanese toyline technically kept the same original logo on all TF toys from 1985 to 1992, branding them under the same label despite including toys from different cartoon series.

* Beast Wars was its own franchise separate from the "G1 franchise" (as in, "the 1984-1992 Transformers franchise"), but its fiction is set within "G1" (as in "Primax") continuities. So it's not a G1 franchise or a G1 toyline, but is a subset of G1 continuities.

* And... huh, I guess I knocked out all three of the last ones with that second point. Fancy that.

If only the word "Primax" was more ubiquitous.

I disagree. Yes it has some issues. and yes it does some things better than the original, and some worst. but by no means is it a crappy figure.

It has a few exposed bits on the gorilla feet, physical dimensions of the legs make this inevitable.

Sword Storage is really unnecessary. CGI can magically produce the swords from nowhere. A physical figure needs actual space for them, and the swords this figure has are huge. The swords of the original while nice and quite small, so they fit pegged in on the sides of the back section. These swords are almost as long as his torso, no real place to put them, and no real need to store them on him in beast mode anyway.

the beast mode head doesn't become the chest

Why is this a requirement? The CGI did not do this. It just made the head disappear into the torso. The toy had to do this to produce the robot mode chest piece from somewhere. But its not really a thing from the show.

and less weapons

Which ones? So far it has the shoulder guns, the arm guns and the swords. The only thing missing is the skull mace, and that was never a thing in the show. But just because we have not seen it in these shots does not mean its not there as an accessory.

All in all, I think its better to get an entirely new mold that does things differently, than just repainting the same one over and over. And at least this one will not have the chest punching / sword spinning gimmick which has no become stuck in chest punching mode on mine. Thats a checkmark in the improvement column for me. I also love the light up eyes.

Its fine if you don't like it. but a crappy figure it is not.

I'm slightly disappointed that it's not as self-contained as the original, but it's not that big a deal. And yeah, everything else is spectacular.

I hope we get Masterpiece versions of more of the Beast Wars cast. Dinobot and Blackarachnia would probably be impossible within our current understanding of physics, and Rhinox might be redundant, but there's still plenty to work with, especially if they go past the first season. Megatron is the obvious choice, of course, but I hope it doesn't end there.

I have to disagree. I think someone has it out for Prime by having huge robot feet hanging off the back of his G1-ish Earth modes.

Minor point but prime =\= primal, completely different characters. I mean g1 prime was actually a bat in beast wars anyway. Also not all the prime toys have his feet dangling ;-) the ones at bigger size classes do a better job.

That's brilliant

As for continuities, to me, Beast Wars is same universe as G1. G1 is a style, Beast is a style, same universe. I also consider all the Takara series to be G1 and the 'Rebirth' to be little more than a cheese dream. Head canon is a wonderful thing. Its very sad to see people feel the need to lecture others on how each series fits together when quite honestly, they really dont and should be enjoyed for what they are, a childs cartoon. And balls to this Primax stuff, heads are just disappearing up backsides when you bring that into things.

As for the figure, it was designed by somebody that studied the design, works with the company and has more talent for what they do than any of us, its accurate as it needs to be and until we have it in hand, it is neither crappy nor great, its a toy you dont know enough about to judge. And if you DO judge it, it is a hollow and irrelevant opinion at this point, but by all means continue.

As for affording it, I dont know exchange rates but I expect this to be £50. I am currently unemployed and rent an apartment, even I could raise the cash for this by release. Sell an old toy, put a few coins in a jar every week, the options are limitless.

Sorry for ranting, its just I read these forums way too much for my own good and sometimes I really disagree with the sentiment spewed forth by some people.

Either way, I'm ordering this immediately and give zero shits about it being MP31. And for the record I never liked Beast Wars.

A tragic story in which a young boy's hopes are dashed by an inferior toy company.

That's a great story. On the one hand it's totally heart-breaking, but it's also really fun to think about you getting the guy to check the toy out with you. And as a bright side, that terribly misleading box art helped steer you back toward the better hobby. :D
Also, I would have been completely fooled by that art as well.

On the Optimus front, I do agree that the feet, elbows, and lack of sword storage all detract from the toy a bit for me, but I am hopeful that the few flaws will be less obvious once he's painted. Seeing the prototype like this invites us to be more critical of it than the finished product.

"G1" does not refer to a single universe. There are many "G1" universes, the original being the Marvel Comics that preceded and then outlived (by several years) the Sunbow cartoon.

Yes and no. Whether or not a toy is crappy kinda lies in the eye of the beholder.

I think it's a difference in saying I think it's a crappy figure and saying it is like a proven fact that everyone is beholden to. Basically it's just a problem on how we put our opinions across :-)

True, true. For example: saying Ironhidensh is fugly is an opinion. Saying Ironhidensh is a sexy beast, however, is a proven fact. ;)

Looking to swap a takara Titan class fortress maximus head for a Hasbro US retail Titan fortress maximus head.

Would alternatively buy a Hasbro US retail fortress maximus head on its own if anyone had one for sale.

PM me.

MR Optimus Prime wrote:MAJOR robot parts on the gorilla mode feet, no sword storage, the beast mode head doesn't become the chest, and less weapons. I am sorry but this is a steprback words from the original figure. I would rather they have taken the BW Primal and just cosmetically updated that, hidden all the slight robot parts, and taken out the beating cheat gimmick, then call it a day.

I think a solid job has been done of primal which is more than I can say about my beloved Ironhide but nonetheless I see complaining that the swords don't store, so what? I'd rather store the swords in the box than have an added compartment to bulk or put a line break in the figure.

I think Dinobot will come as well as megatron. They're definitely do-able. Blackarachnia I can't see coming because we've no mp fembot arcee arguably the most known and universally liked characters. I do think though if we got a tarrantulas who was a massive character in the series he can be remoulded into BA like she was on the show and tt have done this with road rage out of tracks.

I'd love to see a great Dinobot, cheetor, tarrantulas and Depth Charge.
