In train mode it looks to be about even between the two colors.

And now that it's been pointed out that the pieces the wheels are a part of are both gray plastic painted purple, that says to me that Takara attempted to add more purple to the train body since the original train was all purple, while at the same time maintaining the notion of the wheels being the same color as the part of the train body that they are attached to, just like on actual steam engines, the aforementioned toys, and the cartoon model.

But a quick google search shows that that only holds true for about 55% of steam engines, so....

And the fact that the train mode is about 50/50 purple and grey means that they could have gotten away with using that as an excuse either way, but didn't, because: G1

actually, comparing the two, unless there were multiple red sprues in the sentinel prime mold, I don't think there is *any* purple plastic on that astrotrain. It's all paint ops.

As I mentioned in the latest 16 sec ad comment I made in tongue in cheek, if it's not a screw exposed, it's the robot's eye squinting. TF fans just are never satisfied.

The alt modes are still terrible but damn that robot mode looks nice.

Mmmm... naaaah, can't quite see myself jumping on this. Hasbro's easily good enough for me. The painted cockpit is kind of the only thing I like about this over Takara's but it's not the greatest colour.

The Hasbro version is absolutely fine for what I look for in Astrotrain. The painted cockpits are nice I'll admit.

That's the exact deep grey colour I was holding out for; I knew TakTom wouldn't let me down on this one.

Gotta admit, that painted detail on the lower chest comes out so much better - bolder with a starker contrast.

But I'm not so sure about the detail on the knees. It sticks out in a pretty bad way especially in spaceship mode.

Astrotrain has purple train wheels, both in the toys and the cartoon. It is (was?) customary for steam locomotives to have wheels in the same color as the main body. That's an extremely common thing with steam engines, and G1 Astrotrain was no exception.

Wants to see if they painted back end of train mode find out in video review still don't like figure but some painted detail does help

Takara's Astrotrain is so much nicer. At least they painted his cockpit.

Not a big fan of that Takara Astrotrain. If they were both available locally for the same price I dont know which would go for, but for the extra shipping cost and exchange its an easy pass. I totally get Takara trying to give toon accurate decos, but unlike Blurr and Scourge, this Astrotrain's alt modes really dont look close to the aimation models, especially that train mode. Both in deco and in shape, so I dont get the use of not highlighting some of that detail takara style. I would have much preferred they independently colour the wheels purple against a dark grey plastic. That would have been much nicer. The way they went with the broad purple strokes in train mode doesnt do anything for me. If your gonna go neo G1 for an alt mode, make it nice.

Always liked Astrotrain white anyway. Looks more like something from an actual space program. Really; I think Takara's robot mode looks more like "Astrotrain," but Hasbro's looks more like "a space dude," and I'm okay with that. Plus, Hasbro's has those awesome classy wingtip shoes.

Ha, the shoes are still the thing that bother me most. If nothing else, I prefer the purple of Takara's version. But not enough to justify the higher price.

Henkei Astrotrain "bullet train mode" didn't look like his animation model too.

Dammit Takara, why u gotta make your Astrotrain look so sweet right after I buy the Hasbro one lol. He looks so much better with the darker gray and purple head. Plus the red/yellow details are so G1 Sunbow it makes me giddy. May have to sell Hasbro and get this when it is released.

I not only like the colors, but I think both the train and space shuttle forms look so much better with the paint jobs provided. That being said, this will be for my 6 year old son, and the difference between getting it not and waiting for February, may make him choose Hasbro's version.

(For the record her preferred TT's Blurr and Scourge and wanted those, but every place sold out, so we bought Hasbro, which he is still unhappy about)
