SS87 would require Hasbro to incorporate TV shows into the line, at which point I would ask why they would need to do specific year branding anymore? Change the sub brand to Studio Series Animated and open it up to all cartoons. I'd personally love some updated Deluxe Predacons from RID.

Emerje

Isn't that what all these Generations lines are for?

They can totally make a sub line for Animation accurate repaints, but extending Studio series beyond the 1986 movie to include tv shows seems disingenuous at best.

I mean, how long before Legacy or whatever follows gives us a CC Energon Optimus Prime. It's the only one missing from the Unicorn Trilogy now and the trailer and Prime units definitely require the extra CC budget.

Umm, sorry buddy but I guess you didn't hear the rumor that Energon Optimus might be next year's Haslab.

I wouldn't put any stock in HasLab rumors at all, Hasbro keeps those very closely guarded, only a select few are aware of them. Up until RID Prime was announced the majority of people were sure it was going to be Primus. The only reason we get most of the leaks we usually get is thanks to store computers and stuff being snuck out of the factories.

Beside, Energon Optimus could be just fine with a Commander budget. That is, unless they add Wingsaber in the set.

The only way Energon Prime is a Haslab is if they toss in an Omega Supreme he can combine with. Otherwise, it's completely implausible and unnecessary for Energon Prime to be the Haslab. Wing Saber is neither complex enough nor large enough to need anything more than a Leader class figure.

That's another good point. With Victory Saber and Omega Prime they were able to do a complete package deal, you can get both and not have to buy anything else to go with them. That's not the case with the Unicron Trilogy Primes and there's a lot more money to be made if they're sold at retail and all the others that combine with them are sold separately.

Just like Omega Prime but they wanted to "Do it right." The rumor is that the trailer, cross play of the drones, and uniqueness of the cab is beyond the Commander price point.

If that's the case, it just one more example for the insane inflation we got since the original release.

The trailer is an empty box, with a couple panel divisions. Its 10 times simpler than Armada Prime’s trailer. And the drones really don’t do much other than having hands, and only 2 of them have actual humanoid hands. Drill and submarine don’t. And the conversions were simple then and should be simple now.

The cab is super simple. Armada was much more complex than what the Energon cab needs to do.
There is no secondary robot mode or complex transformation involved there. All they need to do is add wrists, waist and ankle tilts. All he really needs to do to combine with the drones is fold up his feet and hands and be able to t-pose.

I just don’t see where HasLab budget is necessary when they already gave us the much more complex Armada Prime as a Commander.

Are we talking about the same Energon Prime because that doesn't sound like him at all. The transformation for the original figure was less complex than G1 prime and only slightly more articulated and the cartoon is no different. The drones just slip over his arms and legs, there's nothing particularly complex about them, and the trailer is just a box with doors on it, it doesn't do anything on its own. Even maxing out the Commander class budget would still produce a less impressive figure than Armada Prime that's better than the original. Whoever started that rumor has a screw loose.

I dunno.

In Earthrise, Optimus was boosted from voyager to leader just because of an included Tupperware.

Like I said I hope the rumors are wrong too, if we even get Energon Prime. Again though, we're dealing with Hasbro.

So then it's a less complex bot with bigger Tupperware and four sock puppets. Sounds like a CC upgrade to me.

So does anyone else think SS86 is going to end with the end of the 40th anniversary year?

Imo, with the releases we know about for next year, and despite what's been said about "any character seen in the movie could be re-done in this subline", there's almost no one left who hasn't been made/released recently... Seems like the only good option is new molds. But my thoughts on those possibilities still seem unlikely.
Would I like a Leader class Cyclonus and Scourge/Sweep? And Voyager class Hot Rod, Kup, Blurr, and Arcee? Most definitely.
But I'll be surprised if any of those actually happen.
Then again, if released in '26, at least a few of the SS86 molds are then 4-5 years old. A new Quintesson figure would be cool, but still would be somewhat underwhelming.

For '26 being a relatively big anniversary year, it's puzzling what Hastak will do, especially considering my thoughts above.

It's been loosely talked about, but I have a feeling post-SS86 will be an "Animation" subline, which then opens this up to every series/universe.

Definitely believe they'll be going through 2026. There's a lot of movie molds that haven't been released in SS86 properly like Cyclonus and the Quintesson Judge or even the Allicon mold that's been used three times already. I don't know if they actually will transplant them but I could see them getting retooled.

I was prepared for it to end after the 35th anniversary, oops, lol. I think it should end with the 40th anniversary and while I hate repacks, there's something to be said for having all the movie figures released in Kingdom being done in SS86 packaging for a uniform look.

Yeah, it’s obvsly possible that a few to a handful could be re-packaged.
That just isn’t much.
And I didn’t have any crazy-high hopes, but now that we’re getting Galvatron, Megatron, AND the Constructicons next year, not to mention CC Optimus & Springer this year, there isn’t much “wow factor” left imo.
I would absolutely love a new Soundwave, and a new Astrotrain…
But Soundwave seems like a maybe at best, and Hastak doesn’t seem interested in tackling Astrotrain again, even though he deserves better.
Although IF both of these characters were to receive new molds, that still doesn’t quite seem like enough for a 40th anniversary.

I guess at least there’s almost no way to be disappointed since I’m not expecting much at all.

For me it’s going to be such a letdown when it’s just a few Kingdom and ER figures with slightly different paint apps in SS86 packaging.
And watch, a reissue of Kingdom Rodimus will be the “big release”.

I just hope that it lasts long enough to get a reissue of VW Bumble Bee! Is that too much to ask?
Since I don't collect MIB the packaging style doesn't really concern me, especially since they no longer do full length plastic windows like ER, if they did then maybe it would interest me to see the Kingdom figures repackaged. I pretty much gave up on that notion when they changes the windows so I only have Kup, Jazz, Hot Rod and Scourge still in package. After that I gave up.

I don't really need SS86 as long as G1 characters still have a home in the main line periodically like gears.

SS86 Bee is coming out this year in the same SS "A Level" assortment as the TF One Optimus that just leaked, based off store listings we've had for a hot minute.

IMO the remainder of the SS86 line is fairly simple to predict. Check the cast of the movie, including ALL characters, and see who's been made and who hasn't. Take those who we don't have a release/rumor yet, and put them all into waves according to what size they will be. Should tell us the minimum remainder length of the line. Repacks are of course always possible.

Don't forget "Concept Art" is a subline/offshoot/banner within Studio Series. Just wait until they announce the 2027 Commander Class is the Triplechanger Rails who goes from steam train to bullet train to giant snake monster.

SS86 Bee is coming out this year in the same SS "A Level" assortment as the TF One Optimus that just leaked, based off store listings we've had for a hot minute.

That wouldn't necessarily be SS86 though would it? But would fall into the Live Action Movie SS line, and probably be inline with that specific Movie/aesthetics.
