I have to say for what it is, this isn't a bad little figure.
It really should have waist rotation, but still it's not too shabby.
The face (or lack thereof) actually doesn't bother me that much. I think because it's such a small figure, that it still works overall.

I'm really considering making a Planet of Junk diorama for my most of my movie figures, especially if I end up buying Junkyard. So this Spike could be used as Daniel in my set-up...
Yeah, I think there's a good chance this guy may end up in my collection.

*Edit
No, I won't be shocked if Hastak continues this line into the future and just throws in '86-'88 characters. But whether you like this Core class Spike or not, it's an example of what this line should be-- new molds of characters that have a significant association with the movie, that haven't been released in other lines.
But between Coronation SS, Ironhide, and Arcee, this obviously seems to be changing.
Imo, it's just not anywhere close to an ideal change or way to extend what has been a phenomenal subline.

What are you going to use for the surface of the planet or diorama base? Kitbashing or something? This sounds like a great idea

As per using the Movie credits to fill the roster of this line...

Arblus, too then.

I'm totally in favor of this for SS86... Possibly small deluxe figures roughly the size of Huffer.
I would buy at least one of them, possibly both.
These are the types of characters that I think should be used if SS86 is going continue.

Also, in regards to my earlier post--
I was referring to June of '23. Which was part of my point... I could see Hastak trying to stretch SS86 past 2022, close to June 2023 (or whenever RotB figures start being released).
Who knows, but look what they just did with Kingdom... They wanted to extend that one more wave, so the last wave of a line ended up being at the beginning of the year.
Could be a way to release Swoop another Junkion, and someone like Bombshell without using slots from whatever the main line is.

I'm going to post more stuff in the Collections Forum at some point to show more...
But essentially by using foam insulation, fore core, cardstock paper, and acrylic paint, I've made these:

This one needs a little work... I've gone back and forth about who's going to end up in this scene...
But probably all or some of my 7 MP's. My regular line Decepticons are most likely going to end up in some sort of outdoor location.
Image

This one was more fun... I call it Seeker Mountain... No land seen on any of the wall backdrops because they're supposed to be up so high.
Image

I'm going to change the backdrops for "Dinobot Island"... Not completely happy with how those "mountains" look... They're almost too stylized... I'm also going to simplify them... Imo it's too much. Thankfully painting this stuff isn't difficult for me.
Image

I'll be splitting the Dinobots between two shelves... So until we get all 5, this half will be home to some of my other favorite Autobots. Eventually I see Grimlock, Slag, and Sludge on one, then Snarl and Swoop on the other.
Image

This is really early views of the current scene I've been working on... Cybertron-ish, or at least my take on it.
Obvsly lots to do on this!
Image
Image
Image

A Planet of Junk diorama will be an absolutely perfect situation for scrap pieces that really would have no other use...
Done in some burnt orange and red-orange, and brown-ish colors... I think it could look great and really help put the figures in the spotlight.
Another reason this idea works out well is because I have plans of another scene for Hot Rod, Kup, and my Skarkticons.

The Planet of Junk would house Wreck-gar, Junkyard, Magnus, Perceptor, Springer, Arcee, and possibly Spike (who will be my Daniel). I still can't get myself to buy Blurr!

Dang, you're hardcore, that all looks incredible. I've been wondering if I could use some of vast qualities of Lego to help with a setting, but I wouldn't try to use that for a natural environment, even if it might work for a synthetic planet.

The weathering effects on the rocks in particular must be the best I've seen, well done.

The amount of money I've spent on Legos is enough to put a down payment on a house. Which I need because I have so many Legos. Which I can't afford because I have so many Legos.

Not sure if I have the ideal right parts and colors for Cybertron or Junkion, but the sheer numbers are right.

Thanks, appreciate that!!
The dry brushing on the rocks is pretty fun to do... In a way I wish it actually took longer!

I'm betting you could do something with Lego for an environment, especially a synthetic-type planet. With enough tiles for the surface to cover at least some of the studs, you could probably do something pretty slick. In general, Lego may work well for a Planet of Junk. But agreed, not ideal for an outdoor, organic look.

And funny you brought up Lego; I'm planning to use some left-over foam insulation for a small-ish diorama for my AT-AT.
Then, who knows, maybe something for a couple of my Neca Aliens.
But I also want to start devoting some time to just painting.

You'll have to let me know if you end up creating a diorama.

Will do. I got the NECA Turtles diorama and love it, but I'm not crazy about the unlicensed Transformers options out there. I tend to prefer action like you do rather than the interior poses I see when people display in the Ark or Nemesis, so I'd love to take a stab at Cybertron.

Rerelease the Allicons, too, get some more army builders going.

Related I will buy at least one of every Junkion redeco they make.
Seriously, Hasbro should just look at the TF:TM credits and use it as a checklist and not stop until all character names have been checked off. Even if some of them are just straight rereleases. CW Devastator in SS86 packaging, either as a set or 6 individual retail releases, much like the Bayverse version, anyone?

Some of the characters in the credits weren't even in the movie. Inferno, for one.
Well it can't be many, right? 2 or 3 is passable, and in Inferno's case we got him in Kingdom so at least the character is covered. But I think as long as they're listed in the credits they had something to do with the movie, most likely in deleted scenes, so they should get a movie figure. :-D

Thanks, sol magnus. Much appreciated!
It's been one of those things that has been a little tricky because each one has been different.
Even the rock sections for Dinobot Island are intentionally different from what I did for the seekers. And with no instructions... It definitely can take some time.

I would agree that creating a diorama with Lego would take a whole lot of pieces. But in rushing my last response, I will say, the surface wouldn't have to be finished with all tile pieces... It would probably work just as well and maybe look even better to use a mix of tiles and slopes...

AcademyofDrX,
Hilarious comment... But Lego is pretty dang cool, so I don't blame you... My kid and I have quite a bit, so I can only imagine what is filling a room or two of your place!
But from the sounds of it, you need to start this Cybertron diorama (I'm calling mine Cyber-rama) this weekend!

I actually haven't been overly impressed with what I've seen for backdrop/diorama offerings either. I'm sure I haven't seen them all, but still. I'm more than happy to make my own, even if they don't end up looking as show-accurate.

Back to SS86, has it been suggested from any leaker that Ironhide will actually be a new mold?
Does anyone think this is a possibility considering Siege and ER were basically the same, and they've made use of that with Ironhide, Ratchet (including a SG version) and now the DK Guard?
Has Hastak made enough of that mold to justify a new one this soon?
I ask because I saw that this was discussed not that long ago on another site. Well, it was at least somewhat debated.

On Ironhide, my bet is another re-use of the ER mold with maybe one or 2 extras, like the shoulder launcher from Siege Ratchet and maybe some blast effects. Something to plug into his feet for van mode might not be out of the question either. The pricing on DK guard pretty much confirms that the mold on its own is a little bit past whatever Hasbro's internal pricing rules are for an independent Deluxe release.

It just seems odd that it would be a new Voyager mold so soon after ER, and be released as a store exclusive. I understand Ratchet could be the mainline release of a new voyager mold, but that isn't in the lineup for 2022, so I keep thinking it will be another ER use with extras.

I think everyone is resigned to the fate of it being the Earthrise mold. Its certainly cheaper for Hasbro

I agree... Just seemed like there was enough of a voice from another site that it's a new mold that I figured I'd ask over here.

Money is always the bottom line. Which is fine and completely understandable. I'll still say Hastak overall has been doing a good job for fans and collectors.

But I also see this being the ER mold because its first release was that Amazon exclusive.
Which wasn't the most difficult, but didn't seem like the easiest to get ahold of.

This has been confirmed as a voyager though, right??
If so, I'm betting on a weapon if not a couple, and at least one blast effect packed-in.

New Video Review of Studio Series 86 Coronation Starscream

Greetings Seibertronians!

Now you may have seen a new Starscream toy grace the shelves, and you may ask yourself, do I need this? Well, fellow Seibertron user, and toy reviewer, Chuckdawg1999 may have an answer for you! Or at least, give you a nudge towards a choice.

Coronation Starscream is a slight retool of 2020's Earthrise Voyager Class Starscream (which was redeco'ed and retooled to give us a host of other toys). The toy also includes a throne meant to represent Megatron’s chair from his ship, the Nemesis, as well as new accessories in the form of Cape and Crown.

Here's what Chuck had to say:

chuckdawg1999 wrote:Bow down to the, bow down to the King! Motorhead cue aside I think I'd be more into this version if there was more new to the set. The throne is really, really nice, but I think they could've done more to ensure that Starscream could fit properly in it. The big draw of the set is the cape, crown, and shoulder pads to make Starscream look his regal best. They attach well and I have to say, the special shorter Null Rays work better overall than the larger versions that came with the Earthrise version. If the set was $5 or $10 cheaper I'd feel better about recommending it. As it is, if you're not a die-hard fan of King Starscream this is an easy pass.

Here's the video review:

What do you think of the figure? Did you miss out on Earthrise Starscream? Are you trying to collect every toy of his?

I was happy to pre-order this set, knowing full well what it was. I am otherwise trapped between the desire to display the seekers all together in jet mode, and the desire to display Starscream in robot mode as a Decepticon leader.

I actually didn't have a Starscream toy in my collection (ahem, well, a Seeker mold as actual Starscream...and not counting my Shattered Glass Starscream from Combiner Wars...), so I am pretty content with having this preordered. I really enjoyed the Earthrise mold with the other redecos/retools (sans Ramjet and Dirge, ugh. I really hope those get reissued like Skywarp and Thundercracker did.), and I am looking forward to adding King Starscream to the ranks.
Kinda glad I didn't go for the Siege or stock Earthrise Screamer, shouldn't muddy my hands-on experience with this guy lol

While it might be neat to have the extra accessories with Coronation Starscream, I already have the ER version, and I don't see it being worth the money or hassle to get a carbon copy. Plus, I also have the OTHER seekers using this mold (including the conehead exclusives which were HARD to find). That's essentially six copies of the same figure already, I don't want a 7th. My shelves are getting cluttered already with the figures, never mind giving them little chairs to sit in.

Sure the throne is good - but it ain't THAT good. As Chuck said, easy pass. More for the rest of you!

And I'm on the other side of that. I never got ER Starscream, only have Skywarp, TC and G2 Ramjet now, so a fourth version of the mold with some changes like the articulated hands is welcome. Also the command chair will look great with Megs and the seekers around him me thinks.

I won't lose sleep over not having Dirge and OG Ramjet, but I am still trying to get Thrust for a decent price. He's going for around $80 plus shipping on eBay and he's definitely not worth that.

Chuck said that both Siege and ER megs have trouble with the throne, owing to their huge backpacks made out of tank treads. Let us know if it works! Alas, unless they re-issue Thrust, his price is probably NOT going to go down anytime soon....

No he didn't. He said he wouldn't even dig Megatron out to try it.

Now, that said, the backpack probably poses an issue, but I'll verify that for myself when I get mine. He didn't say that for certain, though.
