Spielberg would be the second last person i'd want touching the franchise (the last being Uwe Boll). His previous movies are too family orientated for my liking and TF needs that little bit of edge to it.

Spielberg would not direct a fourth TF movie. I think they should give the series a little rest or it might end up like Pirates of the Carribean.

If Speilberg were to do another TF movie, I believe he would pick JJ Abrams as the new director.

Oh goodie! TF's which you would rarely see and a storyline that requires a 6 month analysis before Abrams comes out and explains it all.

Abrams would be a good choice, if he can keep the referances to his TV shows down to a dull roar. Of course if Slusho got referenced in a Transformers film he made there's the implication that Alias, Lost, Cloverfield, and Transformers and Star Trek are all the same setting.

Mind you I loved Star Trek and Cloverfield. The latter was the first good American kaiju film after the disaster that was GINO.

Also: I don't want Roland Emmerich anywhere near the franchise.

Edit: To translate, GINO stands for Godzilla In Name Only. :BANG_HEAD:

Michael Bay and Shia "The Beef" are the 2 worst things to happen the Transformers franchise. I'll be glad to see them both gone. I hate the current trend of unnecessary reboot/remakes/re-whatevers these days, but in this case I'd love to see that happen. Just start all over with a director who actually respects the source material and knows what the fans want to see. And yes, it IS entirely possible to do that while attracting new fans. I hate that tired argument that just because you're trying to attract a new generation, that you have to change all the fundamental things that make a franchise recognizable.

1. Explain how Michael Bay direspects the brand.
2. Explain what "the fans" want to see. As far as I'm concerned, I'm a fan, and I'm seeing what I want to see out of the movies.
3. Explain how all the fundamental things that make Transformers recognizable have been changed. We have Autobots vs. Decepticons, Optimus Prime vs. Megatron, we have robots that change into vehicles, they come from the planet Cybertron: shall I go on?
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

Knows what the fans want to see? Or knows what those that buy the toys want to see? You're going to end up with a "Cars" robots franchise. Kids buy the toys. I've said it many times before...collectors and long term fans make up LESS THAN 4% of the total sales of the toys! Why the bloody f---ing hell would they make a movie that appeals to only a few thousand people? Economically it's a recipe for loss and disaster. Hasbro and Dreamworks are out to make money. Period. If they focus on us fans, they woulnd't make sh!t. Period. End of story. And that would result in the end of, not only the movie franchises, but the TF franchise period.
It finally happened. The Chicago Cubs won the World Series. Yes, I cried.

I wouldn't mind Spielberg directing Transformers 4. It would hopefully introduce a new, fresh perspective on the film series and keep things from getting stale. I think if they made another one, the story would have to go towards discovering Unicron and Megatron becoming Galvatron, since all the other main Decepticons are dead. As much as I prefer Megatron over Galvatron, that's the only direction I could see the story progressing in; Megatron just doesn't have enough parts left.

Like that would last, lol. That would hopefully mean a new chapter for the movies free of human interference.

Well, prime and megs held hands  and carly found megs sitting in a dark alley and TALKED to him withought being crushed damn Megs is pathetic in dotm

And I hope and pray that scene with Carly and Megs is replayed word for word on the big screen exactly as described in the novel because that was f****ng EPIC!!

Back to the Spielberg topic though, I say NO WAY! End this while it's still at the trilogy stage. Taking a series beyond 3 films (unless you go for prequel style which is tricky to not screw up) is practically putting a bullet in the brain-pan of any series. After the 3rd film they just become laughable. DotM is an excellent stopping point and handing off to anyone else after we have already gotten used to Bay's style, even if some folks despise his style and even if the hand off is to someone with Spielberg's astounding credentials, would just feel totally wrong.

but they did insult others of race, shrimp taco !!!!!!!!!!!!

No they didn't. Do not confuse culture with race. They were stereotypes of the hip hop culture. By insisting that a particular race is commonly associated with a particular culture, it is inherently racist.

the phrase shrimp taco is an insult to a race

QFT. Its only racist when you consider their actions/appearance a representation of a race to begin with.

Still, Spielberg directing can lead to nothing good. The man's lost his touch over the years, at least were summer blockbusters are concerened. After War of the Worlds I wouldn't trust him in the director's chair of something like Transformers.

I agree. If he sees African Americans in the culture the Twins represent than he is indeed racist.

I can see where people come from when they get the idea, but the twins don't represent a specific race. They're robots who simply speak slang...just like the majority of these bad ass kids out here who kill people.

1.) He disrespects the brand by disrespecting us. Not the source material or the characters, but us. When we, the collective fandom, presented him with an award? He made note of it being plastic and bitched about the whole shooting match. If it wasn't for us, the brand would never have made it this long. Their main focus at Hasbro is kids, and kids obviously stopped giving a damn back at the end of G1. G2 didn't fly, and it wasn't until Beast Wars came along (kids love animals and dinosaurs), but collectors kept the whole thing going, even when it was dead.

Beast Machines? Collectors.
Oh, and for example, a magazine article mentioned that as a brand, TransFormers did, on average, about $75 mil a year. The movies? Made it jump to a billion. Between the collectors and the kids, we keep the whole thing alive. You can't tell me that kids, alone, do a billion dollars worth of TF business.

We write Bay's paycheck. We defend him when other fans want to tear him apart. If it wasn't for us buying the obscure figures and repaints and remolds, Hasbro would have no way to make their money back. Kids won't buy those, parents won't buy those, WE do.

The movies are also aimed at our age bracket, not kids like he claims. I most certainly wouldn't allow a kid to go see these.

Considering how much we've done for him, and he for us, you'd think he'd understand that we need each other and not one over the other. So yeah, by disrespecting us, he's disrespected the brand that made him more money than he knows what to do with, and given him more word of mouth than he ever had before.

Before TransFormers? My Dad didn't even know who Michael Bay was, and he watches a lot of movies. Now? My Dad knows who he is, and so does everyone else.

He should be thankful, not a whiny bitch.

2.) I can't argue there. I'm a fan and I got what I wanted. The first movie, while reeeeeeally boring and too long, did deliver the wow factor. The second movie was just a lot of fun and had a nice pace. The third is shaping up to be excellent, perhaps the best of the trilogy. So, all I can really say is that the fans don't know what they want from one day to the next.

3.) I can't argue here either. Just because some of the key elements had a makeover, visually, doesn't mean the core of it has changed.

I should add this: I'm no longer a fan of Michael Bay, the person. He's a dick. Ungrateful. However, as a director, I find that he's quite competent and delivered. I also don't blame him for the film's problems. I place that blame directly on the writers. I don't know much of John Rogers' work, though Catwoman was awful, so I'm sure he didn't help the first movie much, if at all. The second film, the good scenes, had to be done by Ehren Kruger. Had to be. None of that's Bay's fault, that's all the writers. Allowing excessive goofy humor? Bay's fault, but the story? No.

He shouldn't have had death threats, he should have had his home broken into, he shouldn't have had stuff stolen from him, but he also no longer deserves respect when he acts like a jackass.

I felt like bolding that last part, because it proves my point. What exactly did we do as a fandom to make him respect us? Threaten to kill him, break into his home, and steal his stuff, hold protests outside his office. You say we thanked him because we went to see these films in droves, yet you fail to understand the kind of bad taste these events put in his mouth. Our seeing these films wasn't thanks, it was an apology at best. And apologies don't always make a person your friend.

Sorry, but we already disrespected him as a person long before he "disrespected" us. If anything we earned his disrespect, and judging by the action of people on places like this forum we're still earning it. Just because he calls us out on the crap we've done doesn't make him the "ungreatful dick." That would be us, really.

The second movie was just a lot of fun and had a nice pace. The third is shaping up to be excellent, perhaps the best of the trilogy. So, all I can really say is that the fans don't know what they want from one day to the next.

And that in itself is a problem that kind of contradicts a majority of your arguement. If the fans don't even know what they want, how can you expect the director or any part of his team to know. And having said that, is it then fair to get in case case when he shows his fustration?

Just because he calls us out on the crap we've done doesn't make him the "ungreatful dick." That would be us, really.[/quote]

Very, very well said Capt. Failure. :APPLAUSE: I mean, this thread is perfect evidence of it right now. We have a new possible Director for the movies, and already, the majority are taking down on him. What director is going to care what the fandom things of him/her when they see this kind of reaction?

I don't think people realise just how hard it is to direct movies such as TF that have such a large fan base, and at the same time trying to include aspects that wil appeal to the general audience NOt easy. Not easy at all.

[...]

Think about this people. The Transformers movie had been floating around for a while now. But guess what, none of the directors wanted to touch it. Not Spielberg, not the precious Nolan brothers, not Peter Jackson, not some no name, not even Bay at first. I wonder why? Well, Bay stepped up to the plate, and he put a little of this and that and something new, for everyone. He's done a pretty damn good job too. Best thing he did, change Optimus Prime into a long nose semi-truck. The flat nose was just dumb from the get go.

im sorry we have disrespected bay on here !

I dont know who has threatened his life, or visited his hone here, but if you did, you have more problems than a bad transformers movie.

The rest of us have criticised the movies, and bays style. thats not disrespect, thats opinion.

and for the record i dont feel bay has disrespected the fans either. Which set of fans, the geewuners, g2ers, beast war fans, energon fans, which set are disrespected by his choices. He made the best movies he could make, they just werent good enough for some of us. thats not a mutually disrespectful relationship, thats life. bay doesnt give a flying F@@@ about you, he is doing his job, you shouldnt take it personally either, criticise the movies if you wish, but it doesnt need to go further.
