I think you should have gone for it. Unlike the Leader Seekers, a lot of love went into Magnus. Sure, takara was given a ton of restrictions but you can see how smart they were to work around them and give what I believeto be a very satisfying product.

I got UM at full price. No regrets; he's a fun figure. Much photo madness fun has been had.

Seems like a missed opportunity to me as well.

Yeah, well I wanted to like them, but I got two of 'em and both of their legs' internal mechanisms snapped, leaving them stuck mid-rotation and unable to go into either configuration, so yeah, screw 'em :-x

Fair enough. I forgot about that issue. One of mine's legs puts the fear in me.

Edit: BBTS has the Platinum Dinobots on a one day sale for $79.99.

Weren't these guys just on sale? I've heard some pretty nice stuff about this set.

Heh, well, I haven't; I'm sure I'll always look back and think: 'wow, way to lose a fan's favor over a dumb lump of garbage - that they wanted to like - hasbro' >:oP

And, yeah, they do seem nice, and if it weren't for the rampant 'monkey-arms' I would've gotten more of them >:oP

I'd encourage fans of those molds to jump on that. Very, very nice looking set. Excellent use of chrome, many of them have chrome with a black wash over it to look like weathered armor. Really evokes the knight-like aspect of the designs well.

Would you recomend this set over the new platinum dinobots with the new heads? I like these molds but I dont want that many of them and I dont own the sdcc set. So I am wondering for those who are also in m position if its worth going for this nice set or the other nice platinum set with the new heads :-?

Seems to be a common theme where very good ratchet joints are used where they really aren't needed and softer joints used where there should be harder joints. Makes you wonder sometimes :BOT:

I was waiting on this set to go on sale for a while (I think it was either HTS or TRU last time). The G1 flavored heads/deco has made me hesitate on these though. Usually my hemming and hawing saves my pocket book some pain in the short term.

That G1 set doesn't seem to be well received, so patience may pay off on that set.

They are extremely different things.

Dinobots Unleashed set (the one on sale): with the exception of Grimlock, closest thing Hasbro released to screen accurate AoE Dinobots. Also just generally pretty and smoky and black which is a plus aesthetically for some. Includes Scorn, which is a really good mold.

Dinobots set ('upcoming' Platinum Edition set): A stop gap release that everyone will sell off when actual Classics styled Dinobots get made some day years from now. Includes Snarl, which is also a really good mold, but not the same as Scorn.

In short: the included molds are known quantities. If you want nice Dinobots for your Age of Extinction collection, black-ish "Dinobots Unleashed" set is the way to go. If you want Classics Dinobot filler, the other set is.

Takara's Black Knight Dinobots are the most screen-accurate versions of the AOE Dinobots so those are the ones I went after (minus Grimlock, haven't gotten around to getting that Black Knight Leader yet).

If you've got Amazon Prime (heck, even if you don't), it's a steal on there right now http://www.amazon.com/Grimlock-Transfor ... B00KMPA422

I remember buying mine from the awesome mooncake623 here at a great price about a year ago, but that blows even his amazing deal out of the water!

I still think Nemesis Grimlock goes better with the Black Knights... but this one is oh so much cheaper...

Nemesis Grimlock isn't subtle enough to go with the other Black Knight dinos, imo.

Man, I had been hawking this Unleashed set for a while. I wasn't a huge fan of these guys, but something about this deco is working for me. I love the idea of having a set of ghost knight ring wraith dino warriors. I guess I'll sit tight and see if the holidays bring anymore discounts on this set.

Edit: Oh, I thought it was a one-day sale. They're still marked down. To many pending pre-orders. this will go on the Xmas list. :D

Nemesis Grimlock is too dark/loud...
Black Knight Grimlock is too light/subtle...

What's a collector to do? Buy both I guess.

In other news, my order for Black Knight Grimlock has been placed. :D

I'm personally waiting for the G1 set. The heads/deco sell it for me, as I don't have any of this mold of Dinobots.

But, I'll be waiting for a hopeful sale on them as well before buying.

The way I see it, Black Knight Grimlock is what the onscreen AOE movie Grimlock would look like if he took a bath. The Dinobots seen in the movie were absolutely fifthly, covered in dirt and soot and so much patina. But they were all pretty much shades of dark gray and silver, as opposed to the copper and bronze that most Hasbro-released AOE Grimlock toys were.

Image
Image

At least, that's what I'm going with. I don't need a Grimlock that's blacker than night itself and straight up evil-looking.

I mean, I look at this and I see more dirty gunmetal silver than obvious black:

And the Black Knight Leader has the closest deco to this:
