I don't think we have mass shifting in Longhaul. We have two characters!

the individual Longhaul we have seen in robot-mode both on the boat and in the desert battle is a huge CAT 797 Mining truck (overall length 47.67 ft / 14.5 m).

The unnamed truck becoming Devastator's leg is a CAT 773 Off-Highway truck.
It is large (overall length 33.5 ft / 10.3 m), but not so large, and it is comparable in size with the yellow unnamed bulldozer (CAT D9L track-type tractor - overall length 26.5 ft / 8.1 m).

Maybe the red bulldozer (Rampage) is a smaller track-type tractor...

Ha ha ha ha ha.....

That just really made my day.

I also love mind you, how one whole constructicon didn't even obtain a robot mode. Unless someone wants to say, "Well he may have a robot mode we just didn't see it in the film..." yeah, that would be not having a robot mode.

In fact I took a gander at the Takara Legends fig.....all they could do was give the poor thing legs and hope it would suffice. I could only imagine the face of the poor designer of this figure when he realised there was a Constructicon who didn't transform. How do you do that? I mean I can understand Transformers in the movie who don't have alternate modes but magic wands...not agree with it but understand. But the other way around? Really?

Ugh, I'm going back to working on Movie Unicron. Just so I have a decent version just incase in the third film he ends up becoming some giant robot walking space stick or space squid. Oh dear God I hope I didn't jynx it. #-o

We saw Scavenger in the film right before the big transformation of Devastator. He was a red excavator, whereas Demolishor earlier in the film was white like that pic.

I can't help but feel that originally in the script, the Constructicons that transformed into robot modes also formed Devastator, and that it was either a last minute decision or someone just plain screwed up with the pacing of shots and that's why we would up with multiple versions. Maybe Devastator orginally appeared in the script after the individual troops were fighting, and no one noticed the continuity problem until late in the editing process.

Ok - I'll qualify my statement...we don't see Scavanger's 'bot mode in the movie.

For all intended purposes of this chart - its total fubar.

Something else that kills me - in the movie when Sam and Mikela are chased out of their hiding spot by Starscream, they run up a set of stairs that is crushed by a yellow Decepticon using a long chain with a claw or something on the end. Who is that supposed to be? Its obviously a contructicon, but the character isn't mentioned nor really shown again for for a few glimpses.

So how does Rampage form one leg and Long Haul form another leg when Rampage is that little and Long Haul is nearly as big as Scavenger? Wouldn't he have two different sized legs? I think they made Long Haul too big or this is early concept art or something, because it seems fishy.

And scrapper's robot mode was in the movie. He is in the scene when Sam finds the Insceticon in the wall and then Starscream finds him. You see scrapper throw his winch claw at Sam and Mikaela as they run on buildings.

did you see my explanation on the top of the page?

there are two different trucks, one as large as the bulldozer that forms the leg, a second one very huge.

according to Josh Nizzi (character designer), the robot mode is based on this second, huge truck: the CAT 797 Mining truck (overall length 47.67 ft / 14.5 m).

we can see in the movie that the truck forming the leg is the CAT 773 Off-Highway truck (overall length 33.5 ft / 10.3 m), which is comparable in size with the yellow unnamed bulldozer (CAT D9L track-type tractor - overall length 26.5 ft / 8.1 m) forming the other leg!!!!

hope this helps.

OHHH So basically the Devastator part is one model of Dump Truck and the actual Decepticon Long Haul is another model.

Hasbro/Micheal Bay should really have made this all less confusing and had the constructicons form Devastator and not have Devastator be like Voltron. Just use different Decepticons for the parts where the constructicons get killed (shanghai, Egypt, Underwater). Would have made loads more sense.

Has any one noticed that in the ROTF, the Hightower arm's hand is made by a different Constructicon. It transformers into a crab-thing, wanders around and then the Hightower arm comes down on it. Does that mean there are 8 vehicles that make up Devastator?

I agree with you, seperate Long Haul is Cat 797B and combiner Long Haul is Cat 773B.

I don't think it was because it was separate from Hightower, and it transformed into a bulldozer or JCB backhoe, not a crane.
