No G1 Character was ever named Mega Octane.

There was only the Triple Changer Octane which this is homaging.
Mega Octane came about for R.I.D. And while his mold is G1, G1 Onslaught's to be precise, the name is not.

But I guess they though it might confuse the kiddies. Or maybe they just couldn't get the rights to the name Octane in any way shape or form.



I'm calling him Octane. He'll look good next to Ani Blitzwing and Classics Astro Train.

Oh yeah, i forgot which line he was in. the onslaught design made me think it was like a later series of G1 or something.

well i'm glad i'm not the only one thats going to call him Octane, i'm glad even more so that the designers wrote on the official website that it was supposed to be Octane. can't argue with the designers.

While the Universe packaging is impressive, I also think most of the packaging on animated looks pretty damn sharp. For example, the packaging on this Prime Vs Megatron 2 pack is a clear improvement on the previous Classics version:

I think they've upped their game... It's going to be a good year.

I hope there are more surprises and fresh molds to come with the Universe line, but between the ongoing animated series and forthcoming Movie sequels, the worry is Hasbro's focus may lie elsewhere. I think they can get several good years out of all 3 lines if they play their cards right.

Not necessarily, for that one two-pack, it doesn’t look that bad, but here’s the catch, the packaging on the Animated two-pack looks much harder to get into than the classics packaging. That set is one of the few animated products that appeals to me so I plan on buying it, but why should I have to work for something even after laying down the cash for it? It looks like I’ll have to work even harder to get into the Deluxes if I wanted to buy one. With classics Dulexes, you tore off the bubble untwisted some wires and done, toy in hand, but with Animated you have to unfold fifty pieces of plastic and tape before you can even remove the bubble.

naturally I was only talking in visual terms of which is the more eye catching. I think Animated is the clear winner in that respect.

Ease of opening is another thing entirely. The whole lopped off corner/angled in sides thing is rampant in modern box design, and you'll see that on Universe as well. I think the whole aim is quite contrary to the idea of the box being easy to open.

while I agree that the new animated packaging is an imporvement to the previous classics line, I think that the new classis line beats animated packaging, hands down. Although to be fair, the people who designed the boxart for universe/classics 2.0 had much more room for creativity (no set logos or colors etc)

Yeah, I definitely agree, although I don't know if the animated packaging does look better than the previous Classics...
But with wanting to have cartoon graphics of the characters, I feel that really limits what other graphics can be used and still work cohesively.

Well in terms of looks, I’d say they’re about even. The old classics packaging looks very corny and even slightly overdone, but Animated just looks cheap, something about the art of the characters doesn’t look right.

On the other hand I’ve rarely been impressed with Hasbro’s TF packaging. The only lines that had decent packaging in my opinion were Energon and the Movie (the black and red looked real nice).

Love that packaging, especially the character art, though I wish the artwork on the back wasn't just a reverse image of the one on the front.

Good idea to see the type of weapon listed on the front of the package, as well.

Prowl, and I'm not saying this since I'm biased towards the character(ok, maybe a little), seems like utter perfection in a figure. Looking at the pictures, I couldn't have dreamed up a better update of the character.

Octane/Tankor is also a winner.

I like the Animated packaging the more I look at it.
For what it is, it's bold, clean, and has that graphic power.
To me, it does match the style of the animation,
which it should.
There's no need for gradiations of color, or graphics that look like lightning/waves of energy.

Very impressed with Prowl's colour scheme, very very nice, looks very faithfull to his G1 variant. I'm a little dissapointed with Tankor/Octane, I thought they were giving him a militay style colourscheme with camoflauge, sort of like in the concept art. Overall he's still a nice figure I will probably purchase 2 units of him as I did with Landmine and Bonecrusher. Anyways I like how Hasbro has been using modern day vehicles as alt-modes. It gives them a realistic feel which I really like. They will fit in very nicely with the movie line.

I've started to lose serious interest in collecting Tf's in the last few months but these new figures have reinitiated my motivation to collect Transformers.
